Something im missing? Figured if you play a game you would imagine that the character was you hence role playing right?

Or maybe im paranoid and missing something.

MESSAGE POPULAIRE !

Um. Some of us are, in fact, female. Shocking, I know!

I always play as a woman first when given the option (and I tend not to by cRPGs that don't give me the option) but if I play a game repeatedly I usually play both male and female characters. I know that some men like to play female Wardens/Hawkes/Inquisitors for various reasons. Sometimes because they like the romance options better that way. Sometimes because (in the case of straight dudes) if you're going to stare at a butt for the best part of a hundred hours it might as well be a butt you find attractive. Probably some are like me and just like trying out different things across multiple play throughs.

ETA: oh, and none of my characters are me. Across tabletops LARPs and cRPGs I've created something like fifty different characters. I'd get so bored if I was always playing myself!

I never role play as myself. I try to define the character I want to play and play that character as closely as the game allows.

I'm playing a female a female rogue at the moment to see what story a Solas romance adds. I don't usually bother with romances, but if it adds to the story, then I will.

I also have an idea for an idiot human inquistor who is going to be male. Even have a name in mind - Richard because he's going to be one.

Maybe the character could be Dick Richards....

I'm reminded of the females everywhere thread.

Wait, what?! This cannot be!

Role play doesn't mean I'm playing as myself. I prefer to play as a dude in RPGs, but I'm a woman.

I can play either gender and be immersed. Though I lean towards females because of things like voice(hated MHawke), romance, general difficulty making male characters(dao).

Also I'm really quiet in RL, so I couldn't possibly make me in-game even if I wanted to(I don't).

Well the female/male gamers ratio is like 45/55? So assuming that percentage is true for Dragon Age and everyone is playing themselves, thats almost half..  then theres the gender split of people not playing themselves, the split of those participating in the fandom online, and also the split of whoever records themselves playing. If after factoring that all in, women were more prominent then so what?

Woman who mostly plays as a man, but can totally appreciate the need for gender representation in RPGs - checking in.

Roleplaying isn't about imagining the character is you, it's about imagining you are the character.

But according to Bioware's statistics, male inquisitors outnumber female two to one.

Yes you are missing something. I play male, female, straight, gay, lesbian, warrior, rogue, mage, elf, dwarf, qunari and human. Who am I?

I'm also under the impression that role-playing is playing the role of someone (although arguing what is or isn't role-playing is sort of futile, as these forums have shown).

Personally, I see it as writing without the actual writing. The only thing I have in common with my characters is that I'm female and they're female.

Why are you playing a male then? Seriously, the fact that the game has gender options, this shouldn't surprise you. And yes there are people who play females, I know it's shocking.

Surely im not alone in playing as multiple races and genders, right? I mean, I have four male Inquisitors, four female, all classes, and ive done all the romances. My canon Warden, Hawke, and Inquistor are all male, as they're all variations of me in some regard, but that's why we have non canon alts to play with.

This is the norm, isnt it?

If you're going to troll, at least use proper English.

I think the word they were going for is "rub".

I'm not laughing. But listening to a troll is hard enough without having to decipher what they say. Feel free to troll in your own language though if you prefer. I know I certainly would.

Bioware has a disproportionately large female fanbase (relative to most other gaming companies), so perhaps it's simply that the female audience is actually a visible presence in the DA fandom. Besides which, Inquisition's female romances are a lot more interesting than the male ones, so there's that too. Still, if you want to watch a male Inquisitor Lets Play, I know Jesse Cox did a pretty funny one (every time I see a character crouching down, I immediately think of the Groundscrapers).

Surely im not alone in playing as multiple races and genders, right? I mean, I have four male Inquisitors, four female, all classes, and ive done all the romances. I'd say the vast majority of players only play once. Heck, I think Bioware's own data showed that the majority don't even finish the game. BSN isn't at all representative of the typical gamer. I only played Inquisition once myself because there is too much grinding between the good bits, and there have been too many other good games released in the last year to have time to replay any game twice.

Whereas you've been so civil in this thread. :D

(I know seven languages, btw. English is my third language. Why am I mentioning this? Because I like to gloat, dammit.)
