And I am a male that mostly plays female characters. What does that mean?

Seriosuly, people will only accept stats if it goes along with their pre existing beliefs. If it doesnt then something has to be "off" about the stats.

Point is, according to the official numbers that DAI has, more people play as male over female. You can argue that females plays as males and I can counter that with males playing as females.

Why is it so hard to accept? Who cares if they finished the game or not. That doesnt automatically mean that the % of women IQs will increase for the completed playthroughs cause you have no official stats to prove that, just your own biased opinion. For all we know, that % of male IQs could actually increase for the completed playthroughs.

Just admit it, casual "candy crush" games assise, there are more male gamers than female. Goto GamesCom, QuakeCon, BlizzCon and tell me it isnt a sausage fest. Yes RPGs as well as Bioware has a larger female base, but hardcore games in general, males are the dominate demographic.

Funny, if you post something as fact without proof, people discredit it. When you post something as fact WITH proof, people discredit it.

Only on a Bioware forum......

What if I told you...that no one here is denying that in the first place?

It means you can't tell the gender of a player by the gender of their character. Why do female gamers going "there's more of us than you think" enrage you so much? Ever thought that maybe it's hostile and unwelcoming people like yourself that keep more women from wanting to try video games?

"I don't have a counter to your statement" Gotcha.

That's fine, go back to dismissing other people aesthetic sensibilities while simultaneously asking Bioware to take your's into account.

Eh, it's not that the arguments aren't there, it's more like she's probably tired of arguing her basic worth as a human being that doesn't have to fit a male fantasy to retain worth. That **** gets old really quickly especially when you are arguing with someone that doesn't really care to see your point or have any basic empathy towards someone not in their demographic. But, that's fine, go back to making women feel bad. You'll find great company here.

I have no trouble believing that 65% of people who played Inquisition are men - for every woman who plays as a male character there's probably a man who plays as a female character.

However, I also think that the hardcore fanbase skews more female. We're statistical outliers in a lot of ways, and do all kinds of wacky things most players don't do (like playing as rogues, completing romances and actually finishing the game.)  Based on these forums and going to the PAX Inquisition events, the kind of fans who do cosplay and go to panels and are here having this discussion seem to be around 50% women. Or at least the women are disproportionately likely to compliment me on my Grey Warden outfit.

Not to state the obvious here, but role-playing in a game doesn't have any kind of rule that states that you must play as your own gender. You're playing a fictional character who could have any background and be any gender, with any backstory of your choosing (assuming that you're playing a game that gives you that level of freedom).

And off in the real world, you actually do have professional actors who play female roles in Japanese kabuki (they're called onnagata - look it up), so hey, it's not some new, surprising thing that males would take on a female roles in acting (or vice versa if you want to look at something like Twelfth Night). As far as I'm concerned, it's neither weird nor unusual to create a character that's a different gender from your own. I happen to prefer playing female characters because I actually am a female, but hey, maybe I'll someday feel like playing a swashbuckling pirate king in a pirate-themed RPG - you never know.

As for a lot of the stuff in this thread since the first page: *headdesk@most of it*

For me.. it's a case of what I prefer to look at. ;) as somebody wise on this forum once said, "If I'm going to look at an arse for 90 plus hours.. females all the way."

As for the "science" about sexual attraction and all that jazz.. I'd like to conduct a scientific test. I will need.. any straight male reading this, to look at the pictures below.

Exhibit A:

dai___sexy_cassandra_by_iireii-d8djmu1.p

Exhibit B:

giphy.gif

Now, based on the "facts", if my calculations are correct; Exhibit "B" should be the most popular answer for the straight male. The reasoning behind this, is:

*B has long hair and a more feminine jawline, as opposed to A

*B is pulling a sexually suggestive face, which is more feminine thus resulting in more attraction

*B is doing a "sexy" dance, where as A will never do such a thing

I'll have you know my ethical clearance documentations are not only affordable but also of the utmos legality. I'll even provide a copy to stand scrutiny - no touching, though, the crayon is very vulnerable to smudging.

Nobody is saying that 65% or so of DAI players are men. I was saying and I am sure others were saying that the official Bioware stats shows that of the playera (both male and female) 68% of them choose to play as a male IQ over a female IQ.

Nuff said

The only thing of interest there is female is almost half on PC. PC gamers prefer females more signs of our superior tastes.

(this is obviously a joke before someone has something crawl up their ass from this).

I hate to see overweight people held up for ridicule. That lady is a real person, looks like she's having fun and doesn't deserve to be the poster child for what men find unattractive. :(

And women do not do the same for men?

Judging someone's attractiveness based on their looks is something both men AND women do. Women are just as superficial if not worse in many ways.

Don't. Just don't. Please, don't purposely miss my point so you can go on about what you find attractive or something. I don't care.  Nobody is posting an overweight man's picture to make a point about what people find attractive. That's a real person. I really don't feel like going around with you today, okay?

It's not the first time that this pic appears, and I always felt uncomfortable. I wondered if I was the only one who felt that way.  :)

I think it isn't at all her point. It's not about men can be very superficial and not women. We know both gender can. It's more about a content being inappropriate regardless of the gender in a topic talking about attractiveness where a type of women could me mocked. ( since it's about women and tastes of men and what they could find unattractive ) It's kinda harsh. There are people like that who might watch this thread and it's definitely not cool to me.

I remember reading an article by an overweight woman that dressed up like Lara Croft and was mocked on the internet. When I see something like this, I always think of her. She was just innocently having fun and assholes took her pic off her FB page to mock. Poor woman. Here's the article:

And, yes, thanks for explaining my point to Majestic in a much nicer tone than I could muster!

I can understand that and I agree but I do not think that was Donk's intention to ridicule the woman in question.

I'm not really sure if it was Donk's intent, either. But the effect of the post is to ridicule the woman in the gif as her supposed unattractive appearance is being contrasted with Cassandra's attractive body to make a point. I'm not sure if it's really a point worth making if it can't be made without putting someone down.

Fair, but just dont act like women do not redicule men either for their physical looks, especially the "skinny" men. Thats all I have to say so have a nice day. :)

Now lets get back on topic.

Goes for hawke , and origins. I watch the videos on youtube everyone not just DA: I wants to play female it seems.

Something im missing? Figured if you play a game you would imagine that the character was you hence role playing right?

Or maybe im paranoid and missing something.

Well....roleplaying means to play a character who isn't necessarily you.

Allow me to be clear, I am not talking about whether or not women ridicule men. I'm also not talking about whether men ridicule women. That was not the point of my post. If you read what I've said, I've been fairly clear that I take issue with overweight women being mocked. That is all I'm talking about and I don't want to be drawn into a discussion about whether people of any gender ridicule each other over looks, cause duh, of course they do. If you would like to talk about that, perhaps someone will take it up with you but I'm not sure if there's much to discuss.

ETA: And, you have a nice day as well. :)

Not to mention that BioWare didn't set out to make the perfect and universally hawt sex-dolls but rather created characters and made them look like real people with real quirks. Cassandra is a lot more universally attractive than say Iron Bull, Solas, or Blackwall but hardly anyone complains about their looks and it's certainly nowhere near the level of hate that Cassandra gets for having short hair, an angular jaw, and being modestly dressed. Male characters are allowed to have their looks reflect their character and are allowed a great deal of variety. Female characters are so often crammed into the tiny box of sexy, hot, seductive, and model gorgeous. That's the reason I end up playing way more male characters than female ones even though I'm a woman in real life. I can't identify with being a gorgeous doll who's main value is being beautiful and sexy. BioWare games are way better in this regard than most, but it's still skewed.

I have seen this bit as well, female characters tend to get less variety look-wise, since they are more clearly divided to attractive and unattractive than male characters. Yennefer's and Triss looks bother me in Witcher 3, since they look like same person to me, just haircolor is different. I think that's quite sad.

Oh people definitely complained about the male LIs looks. (particularly Grandpa Blackwall, Small head Iron Bull and Nosferatu Solas. )

But it was nowhere near the amount of Cass/Josephine threads.

Yep there was complaining about their looks and still is some, however I think most complains stopped after release of the game, I think because people got more into characters and looks weren't as important then anymore and it really wasn't as annoying with male characters either since it wasn't constant threads and people trying to prove their point scientifically ^^;
