Bioware has a disproportionately large female fanbase (relative to most other gaming companies), so perhaps it's simply that the female audience is actually a visible presence in the DA fandom. Besides which, Inquisition's female romances are a lot more interesting than the male ones, so there's that too. Still, if you want to watch a male Inquisitor Lets Play, I know Jesse Cox did a pretty funny one (every time I see a character crouching down, I immediately think of the Groundscrapers).

I'd say the vast majority of players only play once. Heck, I think Bioware's own data showed that the majority don't even finish the game. BSN isn't at all representative of the typical gamer. I only played Inquisition once myself because there is too much grinding between the good bits, and there have been too many other good games released in the last year to have time to replay any game twice.

Ah... so my OCD ability do do everything, and play everyone, over multiple games, is not the norm.

Huh, guess I really am obsessive.

I'd say it depends on how much free time you have to devote to gaming. I don't have so many hours to spare that I can do multiple 100+hr playthroughs.

Why would I want to play as me? I mean, I spend plenty of time being me in real life, so surely I'd want to be something else when I play a game, right?

Well, I'm female, so I tend to like playing as one my first time through a game (when given the choice). After that, I usually then play a male protagonist, and after that it's about a 50/50 split on gender for subsequent playthroughs, if I get that far. I usually only get one completionist playthrough done, then maybe one non-completionist run, and after that I usually have a whole bunch of unfinished protagonists in various stages of the game because I can't decide what I feel like playing after that.

Three reasons OP:

1. BW has the largest female customer base of any company

2. Some people play anything and everything, such as myself (with the exception of icky humans)

3. The straight male romances were overall pretty bad, though Cassandra is interesting, she is objectively not very good looking.

Female player here. My canon characters have been female for DAO and DA2. You can pry my male Inquisitor and Dorian romance from my cold, dead hands.

That said, following along with my usual canon character of a female mage, that was my first play of DAI where I also completed the Cullen romance, which I consider to be just OK. But after meeting Dorian, I just had to make a guy for the next play. That character is now my canon for DAI.

Honestly, the main thing that has prevented me from making a male character in most games has been an inability to make a guy I actually want to look at. No matter how hard I tried I was never able to in DAO, but for DA2 I did have a male Hawke I was fond of and played a few times. But as far as playing myself... I typically insert my own moral values into my characters, but they have their own reasons behind many of their choices. I am a boring person IRL, there is no way I would RP myself in these games. The world would actually end and we can't have that.

1. No real opinion.

2. Theres nothing wrong with humans, and humans in DA are especially diverse.

3. Cassandra was amazing, and very attractive.

For me it depends on the voice of the protagonist.

Gender of the Companions one can romance doesn´t matter for me, because my characters (expecially the males) are shockingly promiscuous and take what they can get.

Goes for hawke , and origins. I watch the videos on youtube everyone not just DA: I wants to play female it seems.

Something im missing? Figured if you play a game you would imagine that the character was you hence role playing right?

Or maybe im paranoid and missing something.

Male = Boring
Any species
Thats why they try so hard to convince they are special/needed, that they are the "heroes"
But it is ok, nature itself is gonna get rid of the Y chromossome *-*

Probably just a male troll pretending to be a man hater.

Could be wrong though, they could have slithered out of tumblr and come here.

You are correctamundo (and I claim my £10).

I mostly play female characters and i am a "man" male, whatever you call it. I prefer the voice actress to the voice actor, quite alot actually, both in DA:II and DA:I. Other than that i just don't really think about it, i can immerse myself in games regardless of which gender the PC is.

Or people just want a different character perspective from their normal life? It can be interesting seeing the world through someone elses eyes, even more so if they are the opposite gender of you. Even so it doesn't matter, people are people no matter who or what they are. I am rambling :D

If you're going to troll, at least use proper English.

I think the word they were going for is "rub".

Could quite possibly be robe, as a garment to hide the truth. ;)

Bolded part: Yes, exactly that. I prefer the male VOs over the ladies which is why I play more male characters.

Whereas you've been so civil in this thread. :D

Civil? I was civil, but god forbid say anything about gay community, like for example almost every character in my game is homosexual or bisexual. Doctors saves life's, scientists pushing humanity to a new level but only gay community deserves pride parade, right? What are you pride about? You sleeping with someone, good for you, hey I'm sleeping with women can I have heterosexual pride parade? Forget about I don't need it you know why? Because having sex with someone not a great deed. The whole world is going to hell, death, hunger, disease, climate change but hey the most important thing is not to offend gay community. Civil you say? Like always western civilization overdone, first you decided to kill all minorities in your countries then you realized oops that was a mistake and now you pulled a complete 180, now straight people oppressed minority. Don't teach me about civility my ancestors didn’t wear nazi uniform, I'm not homofob but I don’t like then someone shoving in my face sexual proclivities that are alien to me.

Many people tend to be strange about gender.

My RPG group was like this several years ago. Men played men, women played women. If somebody choose a gender different from their own, it was usually for fun.

Now we know each other and trust each other enough and all this ridiculous b******t went overboard. We play what we want. Men and women are human after all. If you play a character like a real human beeing with strenghts and weeknesses then you make him/her believable. It doesn´t matter if your character and you happen to have the same gender.

@CorneliuS: Now, don´t get emotional.

I´m a doctor by the way. And yes, I did save lifes. But I am a rather arrogant git, still, feel free to praise my greatness if that´s more important to you than a bit of fairness.

I´m am sure there are a few scientist around the BSN, too.
