Heterosexual females are homogeneous as well when it comes to these things.
I have long asked myself why the vast majority of BSNers are social constructivists who do not believe in innate biology as a determiner of many things human. I still do not have the answer.
All I see there is what is considered "ideal." The vast majority of women do not hit the "Golden Ratio" of beauty.
Bioware has stated many times that they create character concepts first, then the romances. If the available romances in DAI do not fit your aesthetic, that's not Bioware's problem or a misstep. Romances are added as a bonus. What's available is what's available. To be fair, however, I know some players of straight female dwarves and qunari were disappointed that only Blackwall and IB were available, because some did not consider Blackwall or IB attractive.
That's probably why male gamers prefer The Witcher: the devs definitely made attractive female characters for ****ing first, then created said characters' personalities, etc. However, I am surprised such good-looking ladies would ever be interested in an ugly old grandpa like Geralt.
Oh BSN, analysing a BioWare character's physique with "science" again, are we?
The bottom line of any scientific study that ever attemtped to quantify facial beauty, is that the more symmetrical a face is, the more attractive it is. Cassandra's face is very symmetrical. Her body is literally the same as every other woman in Thedas. The only objective fact is that there is no young caucasian straight lady with long hair, but then again that subjectively doesn't sound so pretty, now does it.
Or as the man himself put it, in one of his studies on buzzfeed:
"White gal be fine like a motherf*****."

I've heard about how great Witcher is but I just can't bring myself to play it as it does seem geared toward male gamers. Not my thing but I've been told I'm really missing out.

Ok, quick thing relating to the OP. They're probably a person who actually just hasn't met female gamers, and assumes they must be very few and far between, as opposed to a troll. I've never knowingly met another female gamer outside of the forums, It happens.
Three reasons OP:
1. BW has the largest female customer base of any company
2. Some people play anything and everything, such as myself (with the exception of icky humans)
3. The straight male romances were overall pretty bad, though Cassandra is interesting, she is objectively not very good looking.
Cassandra not objectively good looking my ass she is probably the second most attractive woman in the entire game. And I mean all characters and not just Companions. Probably only Josephine is actually more attractive from a physical perspective imo. Not to mention that voice could melt ice could butter. ![]()
Anyways onto something. This thread does remind me of something. There was a night I was working and I told one of my (female) co workers that I played a woman in my games. She got visibly...uncomfortable...like shivering. Anyways after a long time of pondering and what not I figured out what was the matter. My word choice. Where I said I played as a female vide game character. Yeah people do tend to get weird about genders in games but I always look at it that it is someone other than me.

Wait, you are not claiming that male and female gamers want different things? That would go against ALL BSN logic!

Well, female gamers still want good gameplay, story and characters.
The only differences that I notice between my bf and I when we play DA are that he skips through entire conversations, skips any quests that involve asking questions, doesn't care about romances (he says Josephine is the ugly one), and hates reading codexes. He basically wants to run around killing things with his sword. Having said that, I don't think using his play style as representative of what all "straight male gamers" want is a good idea.
I mean, what do male gamers want?
Bf's now moved onto Metal Gear, another game made for the male demographic. However, the part that was made for him, Quiet the Eye Candy, not something he appreciates. He says he can't respect a soldier who's constantly shoving her vagina in his face.

Well, I know we don't. That's why I said "knowingly." ![]()
Goes for hawke , and origins. I watch the videos on youtube everyone not just DA: I wants to play female it seems.
Something im missing? Figured if you play a game you would imagine that the character was you hence role playing right?
Or maybe im paranoid and missing something.
No. If I saw a darkspawn IRL I would **** myself and die.
I'm not a dwarf or a seven-foot-tall mage, and yeeeet somehow I still manage to play one. Weird.
Thanks for the laugh. I needed it.

As a male Qunari saarebas, I try to play as myself when I get the option.
I mean, what do male gamers want?
A hug.
I want lots of things from games but I can't think of anything that relates to my being male. I've known quite a few women play games and between them they've covered most of the styles I'm aware of, so I don't see much of a point of difference really.
Women make up 48% of the gaming world.
You might have. We don't wear signs.
Well, some of us do wear signs. Whilst on a long road trip last year, I saw a random girl in a restaurant wearing one of those pricey N7 hoodies. I was so jelly. Lady gamers are everywhere. Bioware is smart to openly cater to this growing market.
Females have been playing games since the beginning. My grandma played PacMan on the Atari she bought herself. My sister-in-law is a gamer. One of her girl friends even participates in Street Fighter competitions. I don't know why the idea of females playing games is so startling to some folks.
I'm from the NES generation...I suppose. Growing up all my gal pals had video game consoles. Sure they all had brothers, but the girls played with the systems just as much as the boys did. Consoles were expensive toys, so siblings had to share. Maybe some time between elementary school and high school most of the girls stopped playing (or wouldn't admit that they played if asked) because society/guys they wanted to date/their friends that didn't game made them feel like it wasn't desirable/normal for a girl to play video games. Look at old ads; the games were obviously being marketed to male consumers.
All that being said, I usually roll female characters, but I play male characters occasionally if the voice acting is good enough or if I want to explore a male pc only romance option. I'm grateful Bioware gives females who want to play as females the opportunity to do so without being made to feel like their gender specific content was a slapped together afterthought.
I tend not to reveal my gaming habits around people I don't know very well as so many people can be judgey.
I would feel like a loser who never had a girlfriend or a date judging someone over the choices they make in a video game. Of course, you may gety teased for it, but most people aren't being serious.

It's especially funny when the other moms talk about limiting their kids' computer time and invite me to lectures about how playing video games will rot your brain and turn you into a mass murderer. I'm like, "Oh, really?" ![]()
Didn't BioWare scoop up the player data and reveal that almost 75% of Inquisitors are male characters?

I've wondered if that data takes into account people who were dissatisfied with their face in game and started over again? It probably doesn't.

Yes, but that says nothing about the actual demographic of gamers. I have straight female characters, lesbian characters, gay male and bisexual male characters. Women typically don't have a problem playing male characters because we've had plenty of experience identifying with male protagonists. However, I would say that the vast majority of male gamers who play as female characters typically create lesbian characters.
