Goes for hawke , and origins. I watch the videos on youtube everyone not just DA: I wants to play female it seems.

Something im missing? Figured if you play a game you would imagine that the character was you hence role playing right?

Or maybe im paranoid and missing something.

I assume your young. No, no, not being offensive here, just trying to make a point.

Back in the early days of gaming you had one option - a male character to play. From Mario to Zelda etc. Now these days more and more games are giving the option for players to play females.

I for one am a female and I prefer playing a female character. I grew up watching vast amounts of T.V. and playing video games where the male was always the hero.  Now I have the chance (and have done so for years) to play a female character and for her to be the hero.

I cannot answer as to why males prefer to do this, perhaps it is as simple as it is their preference to do so. My husband plays nothing but female characters, saying, "A female character comes off more interesting then play a male."

A friend of mine had a different answer when I asked him why he choose to play a female character instead of a male, "If I am going to stare at someone's ass when playing, then its has to be a nice ass" he said.

Ive created so many Inquisitors that is almost shameful, yet only a couple have completed the game, let alone a achieved a full blown exploration play through. I have about a 50/50 ratio for genders to my Inqs, though sadly I cant say the same for race, yet only my female characters seem to make it through to the end of the story.

As female myself, I often play as the male gender, however Inquisition seems to be the exception. The reason why I used to make mainly male characters stems from the fact that I was an avid MMO player and did not enjoy 'skimpy armour syndrome' that most female had within games 'back in the days'. Now, if I make a male character its because I enjoy the voice actor more than its female counter part. As I said, Inquisition is my first exception, because I am simply in love with Alix Wilton's voice. Im hoping now that this will get me into creating a female character first time around for future games, if I of course have the option.

Obviously you missed all the posts which explain why you're wrong. Who is twisting things to suit them now?

Stop it, they mean exactly what they say...waaaaaaaay more guys play this game than chicks.

Nooooooo, what the numbers say and mean is that 68% were male characters and 32% were female characters. It says and means nothing about the gender of the players. If you note around the forums and this thread people do not always restrict themselves to playing the gender that they themselves are. Personally, I've created and played a fair share of both female and male characters in every installment in the Dragon Age franchise and even in The Last Court.

I can think of a quote that very much fits your comment especially in regard to using these stats to argue that they somehow prove the gender of players, which gender is the majority and that this means they should cater to said majority. You may know the quote: "I can't believe how many people are twisting themselves into pretzels trying to spin these stats to fit their agenda"

I tend not to reveal my gaming habits around people I don't know very well as so many people can be judgey.

I get that...It seems like people might be reading a suggestion into my comment that isn't there. I know there are female gamers, thanks to how I am a female gamer. My only point was that the OP might be sincerely under the impression that there are few female gamers to speak of, as opposed to actually trolling.

I play with dudes exclusively.

If a game doesn't allow me to play with dudes, I leave unsatisfied.

Without dudes, I usually leave with a bad taste in my mouth and I often don't go to completion.

I thought you had to play with dudes to get that taste in your mouth?

... oops. ;)

But anyway, what EA and Bioware will take away from these statistics is... nothing. What they look it is how well the game sold. DAI sold extremely well and catered to a wide variety of audiences (mostly social progressive-ish, but there was a lot of wiggle room in DAI), and so they will make DA4 cater to exactly the same segment as DAI.

You can say 62% of Inquisitors were male so 62% of players were male and you might be right (or might not), but that is largely irrelevant, because those 62% of players played this game as is. Why would they become more Male/female centric if what they currently have works?

I know a lot of people bash EA as being stupid, but in recent years they've learned don't fix what isn't broken. Which is why BF hasn't changed in decades, and EA is richer than the Maker.

Ah. I've seen too many threads of the like to believe someone's that naive as opposed to trolling.

Especially when it's on the BioWare forums and they had female PCs since...all of their games.

Is stardusklp related to the "Cassandra is a man" person who kept coming back after getting banned?

No, he's an MRA dude who's into evolutionary psych or whatever crap. He had a chick cheat on him once, and it clearly made him mental.

"Cassandra is a man" dude is ArianaGBSA at the moment.

I have long asked myself why the vast majority of BSNers are social constructivists who do not believe in innate biology as a determiner of many things human. I still do not have the answer.

It is not an either/or scenario. Both factors apply.

Yeah, I tried looking for it but as you can imagine finding something with "gender, equal" as reference is like looking out for a particular leaf in a forest.

It's a pity they don't implement something similar to Amazon's filters, where you enter your keywords and then continue to refine your search criteria by adding keywords. But they haven't. I guess they figure we have nothing but time on our hands. (snorts)

That's what she said.

Seriously, though, I wish people would stop acting as if all men must always play as men and all women must adapt. Yeah, a lot of women I know play both male and female protagonists with equal facility and equal enjoyment, but the same is true of a lot of the guys I know, too.  They just aren't posting here. Maybe there's a reason for that.

Not according to science but hey, it's all about the feels. I like Cassandra but she is not an attractive woman by heterosexual male standards.

Please cite the relevant science.

As for why I frequently run female characters, I can as easily imagine being a female mage or rogue as I can being a Dalish elf, or a Qunari warrior.  In all of those cases, they are something I am very much not.

Haha, glad you like her! She's my favourite Inquisitor. My girlfriend made her actually. She's so much better with the CC than I am

And I'm sure you know this because you speak for the collective hive-mind of all heterosexual males? I'd try countering by saying that I find her attractive enough, but you'd probably spout out some more "science" explaining that what I find attractive doesn't count because I'm a lesbian, therefore what I find attractive must be vastly different than what straight guys find attractive, or some such BS.

Bottom line is: People find different things attractive. Why is this news to some people?

Agreed, I think OP may have been genuinely surprised, too, and not attempting to troll.

I mean, it was only a few years ago when I was convinced I was a special snowflake because the only people I'd ever met who were gamers were my male friends. Never any of my female friends. I was the one, lone female gamer in my area, from my own observations.

Then I grew up and went online only to discover there were others. Forums, such as these. And even then, I wondered where they all were because I never came across any in MP games.

And then I started using a mic, openly talking in lobbies... and was surprised by how many fellow female gamers there actually are. It often took me breaking the ice to get them to talk, too, because many have had very terrible experiences or been harassed and so often stay silent. I've been fortunate in that over 8 years of active online gaming and talking on mic (and confirming my gender, for those who asked if I was actually a girl or a prepubescent boy), I have not once been harassed or had any sort of lewd comments or sexism thrown at me. The only lewd comments have been jokes after I was the one to initiate them because that's just how I roll.

So, yeah, I totally believe OP is genuine because it took me decades to find another female gamer who admitted to such. We're out there. And we seem fairly sizable, if my incredibly small, anecdotal experience of my largely BioWare-games friends list is any indication. But as you (or was it someone else?) said, we typically don't run around wearing signs or making obvious screen names like GamerChick42 or whatever. And even despite all that, my mind still automatically assumes everyone I play or interact with is male unless and until they indicate otherwise to me.

I'm female and prefer female protagonists, but give me a good voice for a male character and call me fickle but I'll play as a male just to hear the voice. Or a female romance for the voices of  Fenris (Gideon Emery) DA2, Alistair (Steve Valentine) DAO and sadly unromanceable Nathaniel Howe (Simon Chadwick) DAA just to name a few of the exceptional voice actors in series.

I'd say there are more female Inqusitors on Youtube then male shown simply due to the fans who post stuff are usually people who play the game mutiple times or are more harcore about Bioware games in general. Somebody posted the stats about which gender the Inquisitors created moslty are earlier on in the thread, I bet those numbers have evened out a fair amount however sense those stats are from around when the game launched.

I'm male and I play both genders, on Mass Effect I have 6 Shepards 3 male 3 female. I'm currently on my second playthrough of DAI with a female Inquistor then I'm moving on to a male dwarf, my first playthrough was a male elf. If I play a 4th time I was planning on playing an elf female and doing the Solas romance, I'm quite curious how that romace plays out. So I think your just slightly paranoid there's nothing weird going on or anything.

Side question: Is there seriously no spell checker on here?

Why are you playing a male then? Seriously, the fact that the game has gender options, this shouldn't surprise you. And yes there are people who play females, I know it's shocking.
