So i worked out a theory were we would meet shale in Tevinter have her as a companion and maybe have a mission for her that has a choice of either her turning back to a dwarf since in DAO she said she would look for a way to turn back into mortal or either let her stay a golem for the rest of her life thats what i think anyway. now i wonder who else could be a companion maybe the hero of ferelden as well? because of the whole civil war in Grey Warden ranks at Weisshaupt some new companions as well like a anders warrior, NO not the mage Anders the people you know from anderfels feel free to speculate what other returning faces could be as new companions or what possibly others could be
DA4 shale in Tevinter as companion and others as well.

The only people I've got a feeling will get a cameo besides Dorian and Inqui are Fenriel (if you sent him to Tevinter in DA2) and DAO's Sten(-ishok).
I was a HUGE Shale fan, but I'm torn on whether it would ruin her character not to be dry and haughty towards squishy mortals...

I'd enjoy a cameo from Shale, but I don't want her to return as a party member.

Shale is a must, because i want to prissy her up again with pretty crystals. Ha!

Shale went off looking for a "cure" to get her back to her dwarfy self. I'd love to see her back as a dwarf but not as the rock monster.
Harding would be a great companion. She's such a cute little dwarfy girl. I could see her being besties with my dwarf PC. (I always play females PC, easier for me to RP it).

Well given that Shale is yet another character who was retconned as definitely alive despite her previous determinant status, I guess she actually could show up.

Or to meet her as a cameo being dwarf-woman already. That would be nice

The teased setting for Dragon Age 4 offers the first real chance for the franchise to break away from the areas (and majority of established characters) that we've previously spent more than enough time with, so let's hope that Bioware takes up the gauntlet and runs with it - limiting those who have previously appeared for the most part.
I believe that something like the war table could easily allow for previous familiars to be referenced or contacted without having to physically include them in DA4, but I'm a fan of some of the rollover effect that ties a former companion or acquaintance into the next game. Here are my few suggestions for those we might easily see make a return engagement in DA4: Dorian and Scout Harding are probably shoe-ins based upon the formers obvious importance to anything set within Tevinter and Lace's apparent forum popularity. Beyond this pair of Inquisition regulars, I have to wonder if Feynriel will return from DA2. If he lived and didn't become tranquil, he was Tevinter bound to research his vast magical abilities. Tallis is a wild card as an elven member of the Qun, although some previous negative fan backlash might negate her inclusion. Solas for sure will also play a role in the next game, which means the Inquisitor will likely be in the mix. Of every other potential character that could be considered in regards to the story-based events we may see in the next game (and utterly eliminating EVERY character with a problematic world state, those that might be dead, for instance / also the best reason to not expect Feynriel [see above]) there are only a few that remain.
Sten as the Arishok; Morrigan; Shaper Valta; Isabela (not far away and back to raiding the nearby seas) and that is it as far as I can see.
Now, if I were to make a couple of fan suggestions, I would say Charade Amell (Hawkes lovely roguish cousin), and following the trend of DA novel characters leaping into the games (ala those from The Masked Empire who were featured in Inquisition), I would nominate three Grey Wardens from Last Flight: .Valya, Caronel, Reimas They would be at the nearby Weisshaupt fortress on the area of the map seen stabbed by the Inquisitors dagger and as two of them are elves, and one a former templar, they seem appropriate to things that have come before and events which may still have storytelling relevance??

She's currently a bunch of pebbles in some of my play throughs so that might make it hard for her to be a companion.

I would love for Shale to be a companion again. She was my favorite in Origins aside from Oghren and Alistair

I disliked Shale on all levels. I'd be fine if it never showed up again.

So while I'm not thrilled that she's been retconned as a "definitely alive" character, now that it's done, it's done. And, frankly, it would be kind of awesome to have a quest where you help her regain dwarf form in some way. Although I'm not sure how that would actually happen.

When was she retconned? Asunder didn't do that.

My understanding was that she was stated as having traveled post-campaign with Wynne. If she was killed at the Anvil of Void, then it would be a retcon, no? Maybe I'm misunderstanding it.

Don't want any former companions returning as companions of a new protagonist. Didn't really think Varric worked well cut free from his surroundings.
Moving former NPC to companion roles is a far better option, though i really hope the really annoying harding falls down a well rather than becoming a companion.
A mission featuring Shale would be fun though.

Book canon doesn't supersede game canon. If you killed Shale, she's dead. (I don't remember there being a bug with the epilogue slides, so it shouldn't come up without a specific set of choices in Origins.)My understanding was that she was stated as having traveled post-campaign with Wynne. If she was killed at the Anvil of Void, then it would be a retcon, no? Maybe I'm misunderstanding it.
But if she (and Wynne) were alive, then the events of Asunder played out as read (the events happen regardless, but the details would be slightly different depending on your own world state).
It's certainly possible that they could come back and say that she didn't really die (it's not like you took a chisel to her and turned her into gravel to make sure), but to my knowledge they haven't done that yet.
