Hey,

I'm restarting DA:I and I'm stuck on which race I want to play.

I've been through the game a few times but never to the end. I've now gotten all the DLC and I want to just play through the lot and get the game wrapped up.

Without giving too much away anything, I'm curious which race other users enjoyed playing as more (story-wise): Elf or Qunari.

I really can't decide - I know a lot of the game ties into the ancient elves and there's some good revelations from that perspective.

But with the Qunari in Trespasser seemingly playing a major role (I haven't tried it so I don't know) I'm second guessing myself when it comes to picking a race.

I've gotten so far as 'What Pride Had Wrought' but haven't done it yet if that helps people avoid spoilers :)

Elves have a stronger connection to the story than any other race.  You'd think qunari will have unique dialogue and insights during Trespasser, but it's minimal at best.  If you are looking to get the most bang for your buck out of the story, go with an elf.  I'd add to go with a female elf who romances Solas specifically, but even a male elf gets nice elf-related lore from the story.  That's just my opinion, though.

Keep in my mind that my canon inquisitor is a qunari and the other three that I've rolled are dwarves, so I'm clearly not an elf fan either.

It depends, you get lore from the game no matter what race you are.  My favorite play through is my current one, human noble female 2 handed warrior, pro chantry.

I do not like how BW handled the Dalish PC in this game.  They made it seem like the Dalish PC knew nothing about her culture.

As others said, Elf! They get the most content, and are the most related to the plot.

Female for the Solas romance if you really want to get the most out of the story, but male is OK if you don't care about that!

Elf definitely.   Solas especially is far more open to talking to an elf than any other.   From my Qunari run (which I never actually finished) I only saw maybe a handful of lines that were different and those came from Iron Bull.

I played elf and qunari and elves definitely have more ties to the story

I dropped my qunari in the middle of a game cause it was quite ridiculous. Wanted to be a ruthless mercenary but the game always twisted me in caring and polite =(

Saarebas. If you want to play an en elf, do it as a female. Elf males look bizarre to me. My Qunari however looks like evil incarnate and he played that role to a T.

Playing an Elf would give you a greater connection to the main plot (especially in the second half), but I don't believe the glitchy/buggy arms for the male elves was ever fixed. Qunari have less connection to the story, but I personally enjoy it more.

I'd say elf as well.
Male elf is fine,
But be prepared to spend quite a bit of time in the character creator and the BE mirror.
It took me quite awhile to get my male elf looking halfway decent.

I've only played elf myself, but I have mixed feelings. They are obviously the race most tied to the plot, but there are many times when, for the sake of plot exposition, an elf-quisitor has elfy things explained to them that they really should know. It bothers me a fair bit. And I think it would make much more sense for a Qunari who are foreigners, so having people exposition all over you about everything makes much more sense. Just avoid asking Iron Bull about the Qunari and you're fine.

That said, I don't believe there's much in the way of Qunari-specific content.

And if the male elf-quisitor arms are broken then the female one is not much better. When she's as Skyhold she stands around with her arms way out like she's being crucified at the elbows. Not a comfortable-looking pose.

Id say female elf is more interesting cause you can romance Solas.

ANyways whats the fun in playing Qunari ?

I have a Qunari inquisitor that I took to Trespasser and there was hardly any Qunari specific dialogue that I remember if there were any to begin with. I thought that was lame.

I also just started playing my first male elf and was wondering about the arms. smh

I recently finished my first Female Elf playthrough with the Solas romance, and there is alot of Elf specific dialogue compared to the other races. They fit better in the story considering what is revealed throughout the main game, Jaws of Hakkon and Trespasser. My main issue is that i didn't really like the Solas romance that much, it had some powerful scenes (tears), but it felt abit short and lack of content. So i would say play Elf, it is worth it. Female definately adds more because of the Solas romance.

Or if you want some funny lines with Sera out of that romance. :P

Both are interesting in their own way. Elf Inquisitor is more connected to the story but I personally found Qunari male more enjoyable and it became my canon. I already played male elf Warden in Origins and like it or not you play as a human in DA2 so I personally wanted to change it up a bit.

If you're gonna play elf, play as a female, the male elf needs some tweaking in the upper body, especially the arms. Lore-wise, elves are leaner than humans but male Lavellan's body is pushing it Bioware. He should have had a similar body like Solas.

I can't comment on the femmy elf, but I think I would have preferred that pose, male elves stand with their arms inside their body at their sides- no kidding.
And they look sickly, feeble, almost anorexic, very, very thin.

You should go look at some of the female romance scenes with an Elf. When she's naked it looks absurd, her head is way, way too big for her body. It looks like someone switched heads on a doll or something, it's horrible.

I can't understand why they had to make the elf look like that. The body proportion was FINE in Origins on fem elves and it's even more baffling cause Sera has a better proportioned body. The skeleton is more than anorexic, it's child-like.

well, if you play on the PC, there is a mod that makes the elven bodies have a bit more meat on their bones over on the Nexus.   Works really well.

I generally have my elf in the light armor from the Qunari pack and so the body model looks much more athletic than the default.

I know, but that doens't change the fact that BW has some seriously incompetent people working for them. And don't get me started on the hairs and eyebrows.

They're both pretty horrible, but at least a Qunari character wont get pooped on until Trespasser. As an elf, you'll have more connection to the story, and by that I mean you'll get to understand a single line of elven and then your character will forgot their own language, forget about their own gods and temples, and at certain points will also be seen/referred to as a human by other elves.

At least with a Qunari you're not part of the Qun, so not understanding their language/culture makes sense at least. Plus, if you're playing a male, you won't look like a prepubescent boy as a Qunari.
