I find myself wondering what Bioware's longterm gameplan is for Mass Effect.

I see the exact same arguments on CDPR forums and I saw the same type of angsts over a different system voice protagonist and strong story driven narratives on bethesda's forums. If you don't like change then the AAA RPG market is looking bleak.

Bioware is going to take systems and mechanics from both of their main franchises and includes them in future titles. They did this in the past they will do it in the future. And look if you don't like exploration don't buy DA:I (if you haven't already) and don't pre-order ME:A (you shouldn't pre-order period but that is another story) wait to see if there is enough other content for you to justify buying ME:A that will counter you not liking exploration. But understand your subjective likes and dislikes are not universal, nor a fraking sign of some superior taste on your part, or that those who have different position are unsophisticated gamers who like things dumbed down or not old die hard fans or some other BS that tries to create a false metric of why your subjective opinion is superior to a dissenting opinion. Open world games are well liked, they are popular and have good sales numbers so if you don't like it tough you better get use to it because that is the direction of gaming in RPGs. Bethesda and Bioware appear to have taken the RPG genre and started at different ends of the spectrum but they have consistently moved closer together over the years in their pursuit of the "perfect" RPG so if you hate Bioware storytelling its going to suck for you on the AAA RPG market as even Bethesda say they want to head in this direction. And if you hate open world exploration and the like, you are going to have to move on to indie titles because CDPR, Bethesda and Bioware all feel that this is the future of the RPG. And sales figures all back this up. So either accept this or move on, anything more is just p!ssing into the wind. There is zero reason for any of these companies to believe that increased story, voice protagonists and open world is not what the market wants based on sales and accolades.

As a developer I'd value sales over gamer opinion on if a franchise is going in the right direction and as an investor I'd value sales than gamer opinion as well. Gamers are not as important as they think they are or as wise or as smart. We have only one tool to express our desire for gaming direction, our wallets. stop pre-ordering games and only buy games that support your vision of how a game should be. If you feel burned by DA:I or ME:3 then fraking wait till ME:A comes out, watch a few reviews by reviewers you trust and then make a decision if you will buy it.

It's interesting to see that ME2 is the favorite game of many people despite it's obvious shortcomings. Perhaps if it was a side game, we could have a better main story.

I would love to play three-side games on ME universe:

ME: Cerberus

ME: Citadel

ME: Alliance

They already made ME:Cerberus. It's called Mass Effect 2.

I don't know what Mass Effect means to you, but for me is a story like no other, facing great mysteries and defeating those who try to keep it hidden, knowing extraordinary, wonderful and dangerous people, to see your decisions have consequences, to see how they evolved throughout multiple parts from a single point, of course it will be a trilogy, thats what makes (IMO) Mass Effect so special and unique.

I certainly hope so. But that remains to be seen.

I know that doesn't answer your question but like shep (sole survivor, war hero, ruthless, N7, spectre) this time we're going to be able to see the growth and change for our character, since as she/he start as a common soldier to become a legend, i think by having seen their previous work one of the things that make their games so special is the capacity of passing the decisions made in one game to the next and if you don't think so please tell me what others companies make that.

Well it sounds all well and good, but we've played as protagonists before that started off as nobodies, but then became heroes of the the course of one game. All three protagonists of Dragon Age fit that bill. So I honestly can't say this means anything in regards to whether or not the new game will be the start of a new trilogy, as much as I want it to.

It does mean something, because its familiar for people, even though it will likely be involved into a different context.

The discussions imply you will be taking orders for a while in the game. Which I suspect will mean our friend in the trailer is our boss, possibly a guest character/squad-mate of some kind, for half of the game.

This also implies you are part of a team already (Pathfinder initiative) and therefore likely going to follow orders until a certain point. Very Ogre Battle-seque in terms of design...a breaking point that diverges the story.

Now that I think about it...

Perhaps that breaking point is a first contact sort of deal with the Khet? We would either follow orders and kill them at one point, or stand down and try to save them. Would be interesting...

I ask this question way too many times. Thankfully /V/ latest musical has brought me a proper way to articulate my feelings.
