So last night RNGesus smiled upon me and I managed to get a slew of new useful items in about 3 hours of play (I think I crossed a loot level).  I pulled a kingfisher staff and a heart of despair staff.  I have a staff of the dragon so now I'm trying to figure out which staves will work best with which mages.

I also pulled my first dragon bow, dagger, and longsword and a supreme dexterity amulet.  The dagger is my first 300+ dps dagger I have.

I've noticed people mention heart of despair in the same breath as necros.  Why is that?

Does ice armor stack with its 50% physical damage resistance?

Is it because necros don't have barrier and this would add survivability?

Is there some sort of skill/ability combo to go along with the aoe chill effect?

Also any suggestions regarding staff selection for the other classes particuarly AW, ele and Saarebas from the above 3 staves would also be greatly appreciated.

On to daggers:

Up to this point I have avoided any dual wield rogues due to my crappy selection of daggers, except for one play-through with an assassin. So I'm pretty pumped to try some them out.

The question lies in which offhand to use in conjunction with my dragon dagger. I have a few 290-ish dps blue or grey daggers along with a few interesting lowish level uniques. These include Cordova's smile(lvl 18 288 dps, berserk), leeches http://dragonage.wik...om/wiki/Leeches (lvl 12 206 dps, chance on hit to place a stack of hemorrhages), and Audacity http://dragonage.wik...m/wiki/Audacity (level 10: explode for 75% on kill), and a dual blade antivan(rare %1 heal on hit)

I have read about using audacity on the duelist bc she uses mostly main hand damage but the explosion will carry over damage whatever ability killed the baddy.  I'll probably try this out once I get my rogue chest to save on mats.

I'm looking to try out the silent sister since I have her armor from the warrior chest and she looks pretty awesome.

How dependent is she on her off hand damage?

Should I go dps or for one of the lower dps neat ability daggers?

Corova's smile seems interesting but I'm worried I'll be too squishy.

I'm low promo: 27/24/19

Again thanks for any advice.

I found despair to work best on the Necro and Virtuoso. The resistance from the staff does stack with ice armor in my experience however, once you die once, it appears that you visually lose the ice armor. I'm not sure whether this is just a visual effect or whether you lose one or both of those resistance buffs. On Virtuoso it is great when used with the winter pact belt. It's very easy to swap between cold beats and a little knight music and you will be kill stealing left and right. And if you run into demons or enemies with lots of elemental attacks, you can always throw up barrier on demand.

I just don't understand why you would try to match it with cold damaging spells.  I doesn't mention any increase in damage to cold spells, just that enemies are chilled, so how does it help?  Do the chilled enemies become frozen or something?

It's just that the winter pact belt would also increase your auto attack damage since the staff does cold dmg.

Got it.  The way I see it, without the belt it makes sense to use it on something not ice based so that you're gaining the chilled effect in conjunction with everything you're doing.  Might be interesting on an elementalist or AW for a more aggressive play style.

AW doesn't get too much of an advantage of this since you will be barriered most of the time, and barriers take unmitigated damage.

Tried that build in nm, despair demons will ruin your day especially in zone 4

Yeah, I should have prefaced what I said by saying the despair staff is a fun option for perilous and below. You can still run it in NM and I have but it wouldn't be very effective offensively or defensively.

Heart of pride and storm pact belt are awesome on the AW.  Chain lightning is up fast with the recharge buff from gathering storm based on your auto attack and the attack speed boost can really be seen on spirit blade. Just make sure to keep attacking with that belt on otherwise you drop in a hurry.

Well, what else are you going to use? Keeper? Pfft. Elementalist is clunky to play, utterly positioning-dependant and brings DoTs to a game design dominated by burst damage. Necromancer got her arms and legs sheared off by the latest Walking Bomb need. I like the Virtuoso, but I know people who consider it awkward and never touch him. A Saarebas played well is very powerful, but it requires you to pay attention to what you're doing and the vast majority I've seen don't seem to understand you can do more than spam bacon barrage.
