Got lately :

Rime (lvl 27 sword)

180 Cold Damage

+45% Cold resistance

+8 Willpower

Cold enchanted: All weapon attacks deal cold damage.

On hit: Chance to deal cold damage in an area around your target.

(Grip Slot)

(RuneSlot)

and

Valos Atredum (lvl 26 sword)

Damage:231
+10% Critical damage bonus
+6%Stagger on hit
+27 Strength
On hit: Gain 5 Guard
(Rune Slot)

Cause I have no hakkon I was happy when I saw them. High level Swords yeaa.
They look both nice at first but when I look at my bitter axe I think they suck.
Rime has at least a grip slot but it doesn´t help much.

And most of you know there are more like these not just these two.

Why are they throwing high level useless blades at us? Or am I missing something?

Rime bypasses physical defense with its elemental damage. On the other hand, it does reduced damage to creatures with a cold resistance.

Bitter Axe has its values in the sense that it has a higher attack speed (flow of battle)

Valos is great because it builds guard on hit. Coupled with a magehunter shield it's formidable.

You should use them when there is a weekend challenge that says to use swords.

Put a Fire Rune on the Ice sword. Does it cancel or does the sword do Ice and Fire?

Guard on hit is always nice for survivability, but if that's not an issue then ignore it. Maybe the Templar could make use of it more than Lego.

you get both cold and fire dmg that way. BUT! in all my matches using rime the aoe cold dmg in the description NEVER proced up, not even a single time. so i say that proc is broken atm

I really would have loved to use a sword for the change. Tested both of perilous (in group and solo) and the damage numbers are higher but the overall DPS is lower not to mention the effect on flow of battle.

If the Valos had at least a grip slot it would consider using it sometimes ... but waint for a hakkon is the better idea, I guess ;)

I find it strange that some of the level 27 weapons don't have slots for upgrades.  It's not like including the ability to upgrade them would actually make them compete with Hakkon weapons for DPS.

I bet upgrade slots consume a fairly hefty part of the item budget, and end up competing with the procs.

Ah yes, that's probably it.  I forgot that someone mentioned something about that in another thread a few days ago.  How does the budget work exactly?  Do Crafted weapons have a larger budget than Uniques, which have a larger budget than Rares, and so on and so on?

There are so many weapons with that "problem" you look at them and think: "hey looks good, nice stats maybe a good proc I just have to add a ..... damn only rune slot" followed by hitting the salvage button or just have one more weapon in the inventory using space and gathering dust :D ...

...as Snakebite said it´s not like they would become better than hakkon weapons with upgrade slots.

It seems that the usefulness of an item is directly proportional to user inventory and challenge progress.

So you are saying we have to wait for a useful weapon until we no longer need it? :D

Hakkon's Honor and Bitter Axe are the 2 best 1H weapons in the game.  If you don't have one of those two (a situation in which I'm sure many poor souls still find themselves), then Valos Atredum starts to look pretty sweet.  Huge base damage (roughly the same as Hakkon), guard on hit, and +strength for extra damage.

You're right, though:  once you get one of the top two, you would probably never use these.  Good luck chipping away at that Nightmare despair demon using your Rime!

I have Bitter Axe since I started :D

I do not want to fight these desperate house freezers. Qunari are more fun. :)

These elemental weapons could have some fun novelty value if they allowed the elemental belts to work on warriors. Would it be that hard to make that change?
