I'll plan a bit as we get closer, but my initial intent will probably adapt as I start to play. Interacting with the character creator and experiencing the voice acting will affect my perception of my character and their personality. 

 

What I do know, is that I'll play a female--probably play a Sentinel or an Engineer first, provided that they have the same six classes from the trilogy. I also have a tendency bordering on the compulsive to make sure that their name and appearance is never too similar to anyone else in the group of companions.

I'm not sure yet. Even the gender isn't set in stone, because I might love the male VO and romance options enough to want to try that first. Especially if I can make a handsome pretty boy. All three applied DAI, so now I have a load of male characters, though my canon is still female. 

 

When it gets closer to the time, and we get a better idea of our role, companions etc, I'll probably hash out a basic appearance/morality/personality for them. I often jot down a few other fictional characters to use as inspiration.

My canon is going to be a female paragon (well, if there is a paragon/renegade system). Not sure what she'll look like, though. I usually just play around in the cc until I'm satisfied with the look.

After that, I'll probably make a male character. And perhaps after that a pathfinder that looks like my canon Shep, just for fun. (Assuming the game is fun enough to do three playthroughs in a row.)

Still too early for me, I need some kind of picture on who our main character will be, what they will do and who the companions and LI's will be before deciding such things. At the moment I want to even think, cause I think I'd just come up with character who wouldn't fit to game at all.

 

 

same here really I tend to make my characters up one playthrough at a time. I know what my next Shepard and next DA heroes are going to be like more or less for my next playthroughs whyich I'll start after I've had short breather to do other things as I've just finished my latest run of DAI with all the DLC last night so was going to take it easy for a few days or so then go back in. Mostly because although I really do enjoy them they are quite long hauls especially DAO and DAI. Beyond that though I don't have a clue

Always assume the worst. That way you are never disappointed.

I don't even care if they announce the squad mates and love interests... I will just go "Hmm, can't wait to meet them." NO PRE-PLANNING!!! Not even if there is a male quarian. And he takes his mask off and he's cuuuuuute :-s And he's listed as bi. Nope. NOPE. Not until I play the game. And quiet reminder to myself that I can save the galaxy and be single AND IT'S OKAY

That's my plan as well, but I'm not confident it'll hold until release ^^; Oh well, at least I'll try to not get too attached over ideas of my characters and their romances.

Only in that I'll view my main Pathfinder as a spiritual reincarnation of my favorite Shepard, who was a ruthless, red headed vanguard colonist that hated batarians and started to develop feelings for his crew after being straight up renegade for so long. Hopefully I've got some shoulder or neck length hair for a male or at least a good slickback.

I have no clue, until actual information is given about the game, and the backgrounds we get to choose.  I do know, however, my character will be named after me (AJ), playing as a black male.  I don't even know what class or if I'll even be paragon or renegade or playing it as I would if I were in the situation.

Ruthless protagonist. That's all I know about my future character. Well, I hope I'll be able to make a character like that. After goody two-shoes Inquisitor I'm not so sure anymore.

My default personality is a female Johnny Dollar for all RPGS, so that's probably going to happen again at the outset.

 

And I'll probably pick the most melee-tastic class I can, and if I choose poorly, figure out HOW to make it melee-tastic.
