I kind of love it...people are suddenly upset about something they didn't want, or know they wanted, over semantics. I guess we need to wait longer for this idea to come about.

To be fair, it looks like it was made in UDK by an amateur game dev who just ripped the assets from the games and pasted them over the default FPS controls.

It was probably early in development.

Don't fix what ain't broken yoh. I can honestly say that I've never stopped to go 'man, this game would be substantially improved if it was in first person' and thinking about it now isn't evoking much of a reaction either.

The best thing ME did was the TPS mechanics.  Of all the things they could or should change to make a better game, this isn't one of them.

Thank God. I couldn't fully get into Deux Ex because of the FPS perspective. Luckily, Bethesda allowed for Fallout to have the option of 1st or 3rd. I played pretty much exclusively in 3rd out side of using VATS every now and then. However, Having the shock sword made VATS pretty unnecessary.

Adding in first person just for MP does indeed sound like a waste of resources.

Interesting.

I recently invited a friend who has been playing a *lot* of Skyrim and Fallout to try some ME, and she found the third-person view disconcerting. She doesn't seem very interested in it, though we didn't get very far.

I wonder if a first-person option would gain enough additional sales to make the investment worthwhile.

The game would just constantly zoom out to third person for various abilities, like biotic charge and such, much in the same fashion as Destiny when you use the super. Personally I don't see it really being worth the bother.

Did she play them in 1st? I only went 1st in Skyrim when using arrows here and there but that was it. That said, both FO and ES have clunky stiff 3rd person animations. Not sure if ESO fixed that though.

They should still implement it, it would make the game sell alot more than it could every manage.

Saying its too risky is just showing how lazy Bioware developers are.

Spoken like a true casual.

Lol.

It's lazy to not develop a game you want?

Wut?

And please stop acting like the world "casual" is meant to be somehow derogatory... This isn't the /pcmasterrace subreddit.

This is excellent news. I would hate it if ME games would suddenly turn into FPS. There's absolutely no reason to change that aspect of the game. It's perfect as it is. Watching that vid above is more than enough to cause shudders.

Yes, I assume that her general discomfort with ME's 3rd person view is because she is accustomed to 1st-person play.

If it's just Multiplayer, I wouldn't care since I wouldn't touch it.

But yeah, I play Mass Effect, I think third person.

If it had both, it'd probably handle as horribly as new Fallout games do. Works well with one, does a crappy job with the other. Seriously, third person mode in Fallout 3 and New Vegas is **** (but Fallout 3 has other problems than just that).

Not to mention, I get quite irritated with new Fallouts and Elder Scrolls for first person. Why spend all that time building up my character to barely ever see them? I switch to third person, it's crap. I'd hate for Mass Effect to do the same.

what's the difference? Isn't changing perspective just a simple matter of zooming the camera in or out? Why is this too difficult and expensive?

No. You ever noticed how different your character's animation styles are while in 1st person compared to everyone else around you? How you're often shorter than most others? How you tend to not have feet? Often you're just a pair of floating arms.

First person tends to use totally different models and animations.

I'm glad they feel that way. I hope ME forever remains a TPS. I'd drop the series in a second if it switched to FP perspective.

I understand many people love FP, but I do not. Trying to play in FP nauseates and dizzies me. I also really enjoy seeing my character model, and prefer the field of vision granted by the TP perspective.

I've always felt that FP was developed when graphical resources were tight, due to tech restraints. Gamers got used to playing shooters that way, and they felt no need to change to a different perspective even after nice character models were an option. I'm not sure there's any truth to my idea, but that's kind of been my assumption for years. I'll gladly take my character model in as many polygons as you can render him or her. Thanks. ;)

I remember the shocksword, I used it to kill all the soldiers at project purity (last mission) it was a very overpowered sword after all... it does kill giant robots...

I don't really like games from the 1st person perspective.  I'll be honest, first person games makes me dizzy.  Playing games like Call of Duty, Dying Light, etc... I get like a motion sickness..

I prefer 3rd person like Gears of War, Mass Effect, Deus Ex, etc.. I am glad I can switch between 1st and 3rd in Fallout 4.

If anything, I'd like the option to zoom out a little bit. I think that would give us slightly more of an overview of the battlefield.

I would more say that there is just no good reason to switch the game into a first person view. It's always played as a third person shooter with powers. That's what people are used to playing when they play a Mass Effect game.

Making it first person wouldn't make it any better or worse and would just be changing combat for the sake of changing combat, which would be stupid.

Wait, so YOU COULD play Deus Ex in 3rd? I don't remember ever being able to. Unless I was playing something else...

There are times for options and times to make things static and for me the design of the camera is something that needs to be static for I have never played a game that has implemented both well for the game will always feel like it was designed to be played one way or the other.

It is really interesting reading these forums and there are posts about how BioWare needs to make certain changes to the game and then there are others that talk about how BioWare is going to change the game too much.  At the day of launch I expect to see about 50% of the people unhappy because BioWare didn't completely customize the game for that person.
