During the course of Dragon Age: Inquisition, The Dread Solas does not call the current elven people his people. He doesn't consider them to be "real elves", therefore he distinctly seperates himself from the other elves by using languge that referes to them as a seperate entity from his people.

For example, if you are an elven Inquisitor, he calls the elves your people, your race, separating himself from them and you. Even if you are his close friend, heck, even if you are his love he still doesn't call you one of his people, you are them, you are separate.

Yet he does Sera, WTF !?

  • Solas: Ar dirthan'as ir elgara, ma'sula e'var vhenan.
  • Sera: Pppbbthh!
  • Solas: Excuse me?
  • Sera: Excuse yourself. Whatever you said and what I did, same difference to me.
  • Solas: I'd hoped, well, our people can sometimes feel the rhythm of the language despite lacking the vocabulary.
  • Sera: Uh huh? Know what else is good? Words that mean things. Like these. Words.
  • Solas: Fenedhis lasa.
  • Sera: Pppbbthh!
  •
  • Solas: Our people used to be here.
  • Sera: Pfft, you say that everywhere.
  • Solas: It is more true than you want to believe.
  • Sera: I bet, right? Who wants to think about stepping on dead elves.
  • Solas: Din elvhen emma him?
  • Sera: Oh, you felt that one.

This opens up a bunch of crazy, interesting questions. Why is Solas only considering Sera one of his people? Is she an elven godess "Andruil" who has gone mad and lost her memory, as many people have speculated before me

Additionally, Solas has been saying even more creepy, unusual things to Sera, which prove that she is special, and connected to Solas in some way.

  • Solas: Have you ever had any interest in learning magic, Sera?
  • Sera: Get off?
  • Solas: While it has not manifested naturally, there are ways to determine whether arcane gifts lie dormant within you.
  • Sera: What? Don't make me think about that. I have to sleep at night!
  • Solas: Sleeping would give you the chance to explore the Fade. I could introduce you to spirits.
  • Sera: Right, you're messing with me on purpose!
  • Solas: Why would I do that? It is not as though I know who filled my bedroll with lizards.
  • Sera: Heh. Fair point! That was pretty good.

  • Sera: (shivers) Weird.
  • Solas: Sera? What are you feeling?
  • Sera: Ugh, here we go. It’s nothing, it just feels like I've seen this. Exactly this. It happens.
  • Solas: Not to everyone.
  • (If Inquisitor is an elf)
  • Sera: It’s not an elf thing. Inquisitor's not shaking.

(Otherwise)

  • Sera: It’s not an elf thing. You’re not shaking.
  • Sera: I suppose now you’ll switch to how I’m the same but different?
  • Solas: You are different. You are the furthest from what you were meant to be.
  • Sera: Well I’ve definitely heard ****** like this before. Hmph!

  • Solas: What color is the sky, Sera?
  • Sera: Hang off.
  • Solas: It is an earnest question. What color is the sky when you look at it?
  • Sera: You know. Blue, mostly. Except for the Breachy bits.
  • Solas: And when you looked past the Breach? As perhaps you were drawn to do?
  • Sera: Greenish? Then clear a long ways, and kind of... felt like falling.
  • Sera: Ugh! Makes my head hurt. You make my head hurt.
  • Solas: We are not so far apart, you and I.
  • Sera: We will be.

Sera certainly has a special connection with Solas. And I would bet my money that's she an ancient Elvhen, if not Andruil herself.

I always just took that as Solas seeing how much of a connection modern elves have to ancient ones. How 'real' they are.

People misunderstand how Solas uses "our" when it comes to the elves. Putting aside his facade of being a modern elf, he doesn't see himself as either a city elf or a Dalish elf. He doesn't consider them "culturally" his people. But he does consider elves as a group his charges.

Sometimes Solas says "our" people even to an elven Inquisitor.

About Sera , she isn't special , she's just an elf ...elves are slightly different than humans , their blood is more magical , they see the Crossroad differently.

Magic can manifest itself late , even in humans or Qunari , or in strange ways , some hedge mages are only able to perform really small things , they have magical powers , and are technically mages but unable to tap into their full potential , sometimes The Chantry and templars don't even bother and let them go.

Anyway elves are special when it comes to the Fade , just like dwarves are special with lyrium, some are probably more sensible than others.

No he does not. Before he outed himself as the Dread Wolf, during the entire base DA:I game, he does not call elves "his people" or "our people". He always, in every single dialouge line distinctly separates himself from current elves.

Before we knew he was the Dread Wolf, we might have assumed that he meant that he does not consider the Dalish or City elves his people, but now we know that he considers all elves "not his people", except for Sera, allegedly.

"The orb it is of our people , meant to channel the powers of our gods."to elven inqui.

When talking about the elves of the Dales , those who aren't his people "my people tried to build a life here " etc..

So no he's inconsistant during the whole game about it.

Maybe he was feeling sera out to see if she can be convinced to join his cause like he has done to his many agents already. He is a trickster god and rebel himself. He probably felt if he could get into the head of a elf like sera then he get into alot of elves heads especially city

In Trespasser, when you go through an Eluvian with Sarah, she says she sees the world on the other side differently from everyone else. She sees something like 'rainbow colours', when everyone else just sees grey/green.

I can't find it online right now but will add it by edit if I find it later (unless anyone else has it?)

Edit: Never mind, I got it wrong - see replies below. Move on, nothing to see here...

Every elf sees the Crossroads ( The Eluvian zone) as colorful and bright, they feel energetic and free. Unlike other races who see it as bleak and grey, and feel tired.

Sera has a very extensive network of contacts and the "Red Jenny" thing is a lot more than she claims it is. Solas would be an idiot not to try and discreetly recruit her, special elfy elf or not.

The deja vu part is the weirdest thing about Sera to me. It's even in her Trespasser journal, after you get back from the thaig:

"Felt that "things feel samey" thing again. But not where we were. Weird."

I think Solas trolls her a lot but there's something weird about her.

I can't see Sera being Andruil because of her romance preferences, and because of the story where Andruil tries to get get Fen'harel to service her in bed for a year...

And Solas does use 'our' people on occasion when speaking to an elven inquisitor.

Well, if there is something in her, it might very well be dormant. I think whatever the case may be, it's too little to get excited about.

Solas is crazy like that, bruh. He considers somebody like Sera (who refuses to be anything Elfy) similar to him over Dalish Inquisitor simply because he's still crying that the Dalish make bad stories about him.

I definitely don't think Sera is Andruil, but I don't think that's a good argument, because:

1. If we've learned anything, it's not to take those stories as gospel.

2. Even if Sera is a vessel for Andruil, she's just that- a vessel. Therefore, she is still a person with her own traits, just like Flemeth is.

To be honest I think Solas was just sounding her out and may be deliberately using "our" so she felt they did have a commonality.   He mentions how she sensibly has divided the Jennies into cells so that one group cannot reveal the identity of another, thus keeping the network safe if infiltrated or captured.   So he sees potential in her for helping his cause.

I'm pretty sure he used the same tactics on all these poor suckers who are rushing off to join him.   They think he is planning on building an elven utopia for them because "I am wanting to restore our people to greatness" and he has conveniently forgotten to mention the bit that the "our" doesn't actually apply to them.

Sera is just what she seems to be, an elf who doesn't see any reason to be "elfy" and is occasionally disturbed by sensations that show she is.    I have never felt such common cause with  Sera as I did when it was revealed that all the other elves from the Inquisition had run off to join Solas.    Suddenly friends are so much more important than race.    Luckily Solas' attempt to subvert the Jennies failed and my elf Inquisitor can rely on Sera and her Jennies to help scupper Solas' plans

This is so freaking interesting. I like these two sections the most.

When looking at the first it seems that maybe maybe not she actually understands him at the end there. So maybe she does understand some Elvan but doesn't want to say she does or admits she does.

Now the second part is obviously the most interesting once you look at it and read it.

Do you know where it is that triggers this Banter? If so that could help a lot as well. Because maybe theres something in the area that is causing her to shake. Maybe some ruins or something.

But him telling her " you are the furthest from what you meant to be" is really interesting. He could mean that maybe she isn't stepping up an doing more with Red Jenny or maybe he means that her memory has yet to return so she is nothing like her previous self.

Either way this is a really interesting theory.
