So I just got through my first bronze solo without being a krogan.  Vanilla human male sentinel 6/6/6/02(level 17 at time of solo) I was doing it just to try out a new SMG, just got the hornet. Didn't really like it, but I don't like my other smgs so far either far too little damage.  I gelled 3 times all 3 times on hack challenges, used 2 missiles again on those challenges. But I was able to do it fairly well for me.  When I pug I die almost as often(more often on silver).  And I don't think its them, its me.  I'm much more reckless when I'm with a group even though teamwork is virtually non-existent.  Is that normal?

A side question.  I saw someone mention a HUD, is that like a joke, did it used to exist?  I don't see one on my screen ever.

And just because i'm happy with my progress..GzsR3V.png

Congrats on your first solo.

Most people don't realize how reckless their playstyle is until they don't have teammates drawing aggro away. Once you have an entire wave aiming for you all at once it will make you much more aware of exactly how vulnerable you are in certain situations even when you think you're safe.

I consciously do dumb sh*t when I play with pugs now, since I know I have 3 others on the map who will keep me from having to fight everyone at once.

Yes, you are naturally far more reckless with a team, it's just a psychological thing.

Solos are more about patience and positioning (the latter of which will prepare you for Gold). If you were on PS3, I'd happily take you for some safe Gold games, but since you are on PC, you'll have to play with those PC Elitist Scum ;)

Very true. Soloing exposes all flaws

head-up display or heads-up display ]—also known as a HUD—is any transparent display that presents data without requiring users to look away from their usual viewpoints.

So by definition this includes all status symbols on your screen (health / shields / weapon / ammo / consumables left), and as SMR alluded to, also the red markings that indicate where you are taking fire from.

I guess I'm totally oblivious because I never notice these red markings that indicate where the fire is coming from. I just watched a couple videos, and still don't see them when I'm actively trying to see them.

Being able to cook is a gift that keeps giving. Both my wife and I can cook, but I cook most nights. Cooking brings an odd kind of joy to me, my wife likes to tease me about me humming to the food. So, even if you don't work in the field (which, btw, is fking horrible, don't do it), keep the skills and improve your homelife. Also, women love a man who can cook, woo those womens with your mad skillz ;)

My only problem with soloing (aside from my handful of Platinum efforts) was forgetting the value of other players and continuing to play like they were there

iow, like an idiot/my usual self

It is very normal to play differently and die more.

In solos, you know the enemies will all come to you, so you can maintain a good position and kill the enemies as they funnel in until your position is overrun, at which point you run to a new position and start over.  This is both (somewhat) necessary to survive, since every gun is going to be pointed at you and also reasonably fast because the enemies are all coming after you specifically.

In pugs, if you do this, the enemies will usually just go after your team mates and the game will be much slower than it needs to be.  Everything is not aiming for you, so you don't always have to be out of the line of fire, and in order to get through games quickly/with a decent score, you will need to be more aggressive.

The trickiest thing in my opinion is learning when you need to approach a pug like a solo, since if the team can't live while taking an aggressive approach, you may find yourself stuck in some pretty bad spots if you follow their lead.

Oh, and congrats on the solo.

yes, less aggressive in solo for me and I tend to be very aare of the wave composition going for the smaller target first and leave bosses until the end. true also if I have to carry a wave.

In a group? STOMP everything that is in front of me regardless of what it is and hold the line even in a stupid position. How many times I though my teammates are on my 3/6/9 and I find myself surrounded because everybody fled...

If I do a solo I will load a CM-IV, if I do pug i relax more with some power amp-no fitness characters.

Ah! and i tend to look at my 3/9 when I reload my weapon... (in solo)

Congrats! Generally, I take around 17-20 minutes on Bronze solos if I'm not rushing or trying speedrun through it and mainly using the solo as a warm up.
