Tactical Cloak Cooldown with Numbers

There was already a thread a while ago by Cyonan that listed some pertinent facts about Tactical Cloak's cooldown, including the minimum time.
 

However, Tactical Cloak will not break for 1 second after you fire...

That delays the cooldown, meaning the minimum cooldown on Tactical Cloak is actually 4 seconds, not 3 like everyone on the BSN currently thinks.

Whether someone wants to argue what the definition of cooldown is, that may be beside the point.  Removing any argument about what constitutes a cooldown, you can simply state that cloak may be used at most every 4s, which has implications in calculating DPS.

 

Restating the above isn't the entire point of this thread, I am going to post cloak numbers to illuminate the effect of weapon weight on cooldown and when it is actually noticeable.  Here are the cliff notes, of which much was already known:

 

-You probably have about 0.75 seconds after pressing the cloak key initially to break cloak without penalty.

-After the above time, the fraction of time in cloak before the breaking action is equal to the fraction of the rated cooldown time that will be incurred.

-Given the "grace period," time between cloak cycles could be between 4 and ~4.75s with "min cooldown" time.

-When cloak hits the duration limit, it will expire and cooldown will start immediately without an intervening second.

-Erratum: Ammo counter at bottom left of HUD takes two to three recoil frames before it updates.

 

My tests were with GI.  The video capture was 30fps (every other frame basically) and so there is some uncertainty in small times.  Time between frames is thus 0.033s.  Setup for first test here.  Setup for remaining tests here.  I switched because firing delay, but that didn't really matter given the granularity.  Bronze difficulty so there would be no time compression.

 

Went frame by frame in the vids, so I don't think it makes sense to put the source vids on youtube, but I may upload them somewhere else if someone wants to go by frames.  Spreadsheet of frame times (I stopped recording some cycles that were essentially repeated in later vids).  Numbers below will be time after cloak initiation with parenthesis for interval time since last, and percents being of total duration and rated cooldown, respectively.

 

Test 1

 

Shot: 0.2 ** 3.8%

Cloak Breaks, Cooldown Starts: 1.2 (+1s)

Cooldown Ends: 4.2 (+3s) ** Min

 

Shot: 0.3 ** 5.7%

Cloak Breaks, Cooldown Starts: 1.3 (+1s)

Cooldown Ends: 4.3 (+3s) ** Min

 

Shot: 0.433 ** 8.3%

Cloak Breaks, Cooldown Starts: 1.433 (+1s)

Cooldown Ends: 4.433 (+3s) ** Min

 

Shot: 0.867 ** 16.7%

Cloak Breaks, Cooldown Starts: 1.867 (+1s)

Cooldown Ends: 6 (+4.133) ** 16.8%

 

-With this weight, once you miss the window by a few tenths of a second, you have gained over a second of cooldown time.

 

*It is hard to time in game, but this increasing interval should demonstrate that there is a window after pressing the cloak key where you stay in min cooldown time (activation time).  Total rated cooldown time with this setup should be 24.5 at -200%.

 

Test 2

 

*This setup is really only -160% PRS due to weight glitch, cd 20.5s rated.

 

Shot: 0.267 ** 5%

Cloak Breaks, Cooldown Starts: 1.267 (+1)

Cooldown Ends: 4.267 (+3) ** Min

 

Shot: 1 ** 19.2%

Cloak Breaks, Cooldown Starts: 2 (+1)

Cooldown Ends: 5.433 (+3.5) ** 17%

 

-I think percent difference here is partly due to 30fps frame times

 

Shot: 1.367 ** 26%

Cloak Breaks, Cooldown Starts: 2.367 (+1)

Cooldown Ends: 7.734 (+5.367) ** 26%

 

-You've gained over 2.3s cooldown time by spending over a second in cloak

 

Shot: 2.5 ** 48%

Cloak Breaks, Cooldown Starts: 3.467 (+0.967)

Cooldown Ends: 13.3 (+9.833) ** 48%

 

-About half time in cloak results in half the rated cooldown, 2 extra seconds in cloak -> 3x as long for cloak cycle.

 

Test 3

 

*The point was mainly just to try and look at the min time when broken near the limit, but it was hard to time

*Trying to nail down where "grace period" is

 

Shot: 0.633

Cloak Breaks, Cooldown Starts: 1.633 (+1)

Cooldown Ends: 4.633 (+3)

 

Shot: 0.667

Cloak Breaks, Cooldown Starts: 1.667 (+1)

Cooldown Ends: 4.633 (+2.966)

 

Shot: 0.766

Cloak Breaks, Cooldown Starts: 1.766 (+1)

Cooldown Ends:  4.766 (+3)

 

Shot: 0.800

Cloak Breaks, Cooldown Starts: 1.800 (+1)

Cooldown Ends: 5.000 (+3.2)

 

-Somewhere between 0.733s and 0.800s time after pressing cloak key you will start incurring cooldown penalty.

Well, you can actually get in a shot off to break cloak and then still be able to use another power before cloak cooldown kicks in. Is what I know.

but basically if I'm reading Cyonan's thread that's linked here, and understanding this correctly (Which I might not be...) then there is literally no point at all to ever take Tactical Cloak Rank 5A? As it doesn't effect the duration nor your Weight %?

Unless you're going for the weapon-specific bonus at Rank 6, you can stop at 4 and put points elsewhere and use whatever weapon you want.  That said, some melee Infiltrators can be entertaining.

 

If I have no intention of doing melee with the kit, and want the Rank 6 weapon bonus, I will take 5a because it's there.

It doesn't affect PRS because it is an evolution, so you can think of it as adding with the rank bonus at 2 (or with Power Efficiency modules if you are using them).

 

Many times it makes sense to take on a sniper infiltrator since you will not always be getting minimum cooldown and it will help your recharge speed then.  Most snipers aren't going to utilize the melee bonus.

^ But it still makes sense for Snipers to melee since many pugs have trouble quick scoping very close enemies with a SR. Thus a melee would make sense for many pugs (why so many pugs melee in desperate situations... only to always end up downed because pugs).
