I am writing this to see what people reached what level in game.  In my one play through on the 360 (buying the GOTY ed. for PC once it comes out) I hit lvl 23 and was half way to lvl 24 without buying the one DLC available to me.  I figure I can hit at least lvl 26 with all DLC and side quests completed.  So, what lvl did you hit in a single play through?

27 is the max, FYI. In case you weren't aware!

I did pretty much everything I could find to do in the main game and got to level 24 by the time I fought Coryfish, but I missed a couple of Astrariums and mosiac pieces that might have gained a little more XP. I then did Hakkon after killing Cory and I was at the level 27 cap by the end of that, which meant no more XP to be gained from Descent or Trespasser. Its a good thing they have implemented the Trials to rebalance things so you don't cap out too soon. I'll never understand why they implement these arbitrary level caps...

And it comes way too soon with DLCs.
Now with even ground and walk softly trials even more, I spent 70% of game time on level 27

On my first play through I reached lv24 after loading Descent I reached lv27 and even thought there was more to do after it never goes above 27 .If you wait until your LV 27 Cory and his Dragon are so easy .

27, is that a hard or a soft cap?  I have been browsing the web and I have heard different things,  some insist that there is a soft cap and that everything after that just takes a long time, I have also heard that there is a hard cap with nothing after that.  Honestly, 27 seems arbitrary to every other Bioware game I have played.

Unfortunately it's a hard cap.

27 seems so arbitrary because there were plans to elevate it through DLC. If I had to guess, I'd say the plan was to raise it to a nice round 30. Unfortunately they were unable to do that because... technical reasons that fly over my head... so... 27 it is.

Hard cap confirmed since launch, I myself did a playthrough to reach the level cap before DLC leaving everything that was fixed experience (like rifts and quest rewards, including main quests) for after level 25 where you stop getting xp from enemies. But now with DLCs everybody reaches level cap.

Level 27 is the "soft cap" that is a "hard cap" lol

Amulet of Power item dupe after that :)

Yeah, level 27 on my previous playthough, which was my first with the DLCs - my previous playthough was from before the first DLC came out.

Achieved that level WAY too early - spent much of the game, and the entirety of Trespasser at level 27, stopped by the hard cap. And here I thought we were promised only a soft cap.

It hardly needs saying, but Bioware REALLY should remove that hard cap with the next patch, and let us have a soft cap, as was initially intended. It seriously detracts from the gaming experience when you can't see your characters progress.

While I do agree that the low cap is annoying, if they haven't raised the cap after three DLCs (any one of which can get you to the cap), I doubt they will do so now.

The closest you get is probably the half-XP trial.

Hi and Yes... also found out yesterday as i just leveled to 27 that i would stay at this level for the rest of my DAI life...

considering i have finished the main story by 25, and that i still haven't finished Hakkon and not even played yet to "The Descent"...

I feel like screwed !

if not for the gear... my characters evolution have come to an end, and even if i like to spend a lot of time reading everything i come across (codex... stories...) ... winning XP is an important point of any RPG, and my interest in this game just took a big hit...

why would i spend a penny for "Trespasser" when Hakkon already smashed my hopes by implementing a Hard Cap !

Sometimes i don't understand the logic of devs... how in hell "frustrating the players" is productive to sell ?

It's funny. You can't get to DA2's cap (30, iirc?) even with the DLCs. DAI? Just one DLC can boost you to 27 like cake.

It reminds me of ME2's 30 and ME3's 60. Really hard not to hit them.

Maybe it's just me, but I've never found the "It's never been done before!" a good reason not to do something.

So Bioware, scrap the hard cap in the next patch please. Nobody likes it. It detracts from the gaming experience. And it's all too easy to reach very early on, given the DLCs. So just scrap it. Please. First time for everything.

DA2's levelcap was actually 50

I think the highest I ever got was 28.

It is about the highest level you can get now that they patched the side quest exploit. I had a level 37 Hawke before that.

For me, it was frustratingly hilarious, as I reached 27 after defeating the final boss in Hakkon.  Everything seemed fine and normal, and then I started the Descent, and wasn't getting any XP anymore.  I thought something was wrong.  Felt very weird to play through the final two DLCs with no XP at all.  The notifications are a great way of knowing when you've accomplished something.

This is the issue I came across. I am at 26 and just started JOH, with Descent and Tresspasser yet to be played. The problem is I just HAD to do a 100% completionist run. My lesson for my next runthrough is to leave a lot of stuff, do the first 2 DLCs, then mop up everything else. Or I may just leave it. Once I've gotten 100% of the shards, its kinda silly for me to do it again.

Did anyone manage to make any items that leveled higher than 27? I don't know if this was a thing or not, but one of the lyrium bows that I crafted from The Descent was a lvl 28 weapon.

Just reminding everyone what was said before Inquisition came out, about the level cap. This is from an Interview of Mike Laidlaw for gamingbolt.com:

Quote:

Leonid Melikhov: What is the maximum level cap in Inquisition? If the player does reach that cap, how are you making sure that he or she is still invested in the world?

Mike Laidlaw: They key is to not have a cap. When you arbitrary just stop getting experience, it honestly kind of sucks in my opinion. The way experience is granted in Inquistion is as you tackle monsters and going after things and as they get too low level for you they stop granting you experience. This is a fairly standard RPG mechanic and by the time you’re capped out and no longer gaining experience, you’ve killed some of the toughest stuff in the world.

You’re probably done with the game because you’ve killed almost everything, so that’s kind of our approach. It’s more of a soft-cap and there will be a point at which you stop leveling up somewhere.

(The full interview can be found at: http://gamingbolt.co...VroJoT2xCrky.99 )

So did when you "arbitrarily just stop getting experience" stop sucking somehow in between this interview and the finished product, or was the hard cap set for some bizarre reason by someone who thought the player would never reach it anyway?

Well, now it's routinely reached well before the end of the game, with the DLCs. So is there ANY reason not to scrap this hard cap, and go with the soft cap, especially as Laidlaw seems to agree that a soft cap is the most reasonable option?

Official Bioware staff? Any comment?

27 is the highest, and it's not too hard to get to. This is even more true if you have the DLC, Hakkon alone will give you a couple of levels.

Well, they had planned for another DLC and an expansion pack, but I have a hard time imagining it would have reached that high even with those.
