Third playthrough and the more I speak with her the more I think what Thedas needs is Mother Gisele for Divine. She's compassionate yet determined and devout yet open-minded; both Leliana and Cassandra would do better to continue on as left and right hand of Gisele-Victoria then either sitting on the Sun-burst Throne.

So open minded she immediately suspects Dorian of evil as soon as he joins the inquisition just because he's from tevinter.
Needed to be said. Sorry.
Yeah, I thought she was awesome until her attitude about Dorian.

She irritated me with her hatred of Dorian. She lost my respect when she told me not to tell people in was the Divine that saved me, not Andraste.

Overkill.
Giselle sounds like she's got phlegm caught in her throat.

She's open-minded in certain respects, and very, very close-minded in others. It would have taken just a few minutes of her actually speaking with Dorian to know what his intentions were, or how he felt about Tevinter. The fact that her "confronting" him takes place a good deal of time after they've nested into Skyhold kind of proves that she didn't bother. Still, it's strongly implied that she apparently didn't shy away from talking about it behind Dorian and the Inquisitor's backs. The fact that it took her so long to admit that she was wrong didn't do her any favors.
I think that Giselle honestly works better as a subordinate rather than someone heading a faction. Her strengths always seemed to be in being out among the people, working and helping directly. Even with her flaws she did a lot of good work for the Inquisition. She's a great asset, but I would never want her to be Divine.

In a way, I'm kind of glad about that confrontation with Dorian. It made her more of a character rather than a narrative tool.
People are often tempted to gossip (people have even turned gossip into a business), and we are raised with certain outlooks on outsiders. Mother Giselle grew up in the south and is very devout in her southern Andrastian faith, which translates to distrust of Tevinter which broke from the southern Chantry and formed the Imperial Chantry. The two Chantries are still bitter about it, and its members grow in that bitterness.
She was given a character flaw, hurray! She's not just some wise wizard or elder who helps set the hero on the journey.
However, I don't think she would make a good Divine or political leader. She is too much of a counselor and advisor, and she doesn't seem to take a hard stance on much and didn't show any vision that she is willing to fight for. She just helps others develop a vision.
Vivienne is the best candidate for Divine, anyway.

Most Everyone has a distrust for the Vents, so she wasn't alone in that, not by a long shot.
What many do not realize, is she was actually trying to protect you.
(Granted, not the best way to go about it.)
The difference is,
She admits her mistake and apologizes.
I'd vote for her.

While I agree that her strengths lie in working directly with people, she would have been my choice as well. And I like the confrontation with Dorian, because she needs a flaw to be a little less "perfect". Aside from the angle of letting gossip fester and participating in it, it isn't even much of a flaw at all. Tevinter is essentially an enemy on various levels, so Dorian's presence -- especially in combination with the fact that he is quite arrogant and responds with aggression and mockery to being questioned, neither of which would help endear him to many -- should be treated with suspicion. Dorian himself mentions this happening, and Mother Giselle simply drew the scapegoat card when it came to the devs actually showing instead of telling. (I came to like Dorian quite a lot, but he honestly doesn't always make it easy to like him.)
It's not just Dorian either. There should be more tension regarding some members of the inner circle, or the "Herald" themselves early on, especially if they are not human. As much as I love the theme of bringing very different people together to work towards the same goal of saving and improving the world, that theme is weakened a bit when it doesn't get the pushback that it logically should. And it would have been a good roleplaying and leadership opportunity to give us options on how to handle prejudice and suspicion both among the inner circle and towards it (and ourselves).

Oh, Donk. I love how I wander into other threads and here you are, in all your glory.
Also, Orlesians sound too frenchy? That's like saying Zevran sounded too Spanish. Or that Cassandra sounds like a Russian Spy.

Vivienne is the best candidate for Divine, anyway.
She'd turn the chantry into a public toilet if it gained her power. She doesn't even cares what happens to the Chantry, how its rules change, its people well being etc.
She just makes whatever decision allows her to clutch to more control and influence. Which is very interesting in it of itself, but I think she is a horrible Divine in terms of the reforms she will bring. She doesn't have a vision of what she wants the Chantry to be, she'll just use it as a tool to get immense power, and she'll use it well.
