I think side missions are really important in an RPG game so I as well as a few other people listed a number of side mission ideas in the ME3 forum for MEA in this link a few months ago before we heard any background info on what and where the next ME would be. http://forum.bioware.../#entry18767586

Anyway another idea:

I think a futurist version of the munity on the Batavia would make a great side story with the sailing ship being replaced with a spaceship being wrecked on a remote planet.

https://en.wikipedia...i/Batavia_(ship) To summarize a Dutch ship got wrecked off Australia's west coast before it had been charted by Europeans. The survivors thought they would never leave this tiny island off Australia coast and would be stuck there until they all died. Rapes and murders started occurring and anarchy ensued. There was about to be an all-out battle between the survivors who had split into 2 groups when a rescue ship appeared on the horizon.....

Anyway the new commander Shepard could come across a similar scene from maybe a human ship which was in the ME relay when the relay was destroyed at the end of ME3 and somehow ended up in Andromeda.

Anybody else got some ideas for side mission?

One other thing with regards to the link to the old thread one of the missions involved a "rouge planet" which does not make a lot of sense to most people so please check this link to see what one is - https://en.wikipedia...ki/Rouge_planet

That sounds a lot like Jacob's loyalty mission in ME2, actually.

I'd like to see more diversity in winning criteria for the side missions. So not just "get to point B from point A while killing enemies", but more missions with timers (kill enemies before the time runs out, get to B before the time runs out, survive for X minutes, that sort of thing). More solo segments would be nice too.

Yeah, that's exactly what came to my mind, as well. Rather not have the same thing all over again.

I would like to have a mission or two where I could play as a different character from my companion. For example if I am stuck in somewhere and my friends need to rescue me. Just an idea. Or a side mission which tells a story of some of the character and we play as him/her. I loved to play as Joker when he climbed through the SR-2. It is also nice to play alone - like in Citadel DLC - or with a massive group of friends, even in a short period of time.

I wouldn't mind side missions where you can't kill anyone.  Perhaps saving important people, a mission that requires all companions to come along.  Anything that gives us a break from pew pewing everything.

I remember when I first played ME2, I thought I was going to control both teams, so I didn't care who I chose as a leader, which led to some deaths....

But yeah, I'd like that, being able to control two squads in some missions or some combat shenanigans, like timed missions, puzzles or combat specific use.

I also like the idea of non combat quest, as long as it's not all scaning crap for some volus. Something like Thane's and Samara's loyalty missions.

The most important point is that the side missions are not fillers as in DA:I.

Characteristics of good (side) missions: well written, cutscenes, sometimes decisions, varied tasks.

To the rogue planet YES, to see how plant and animal life has had to evolve just from the heat from its world's core and if there are intelligent beings their culture and customs, for the other part sounds like Jacob's loyalty mission.

Yes I guess it does sound a bit like Jacobs mission but still there is a lot that can be done with crashed ships in remote location stories.

I agree Elenora a timed mission would be good. Any ideas? Maybe a scientific research station on an ice planet that has been badly damaged in an attack and the power supply has been damaged. The longer it takes you to get the power back on the more people at the research station freeze to death. Another one could be that you or one of your crew or even a colony have contracted an infection or contagious virus and you have X time to cure it.

This may not be a side mission but just having an option on a few of the more interesting planets to take the local equivalent of a tour bus and have a guide tell you some interesting stories about the place. You could maybe visit some land marks, sites of old battles or impressive building built by the alien race and have the guide tell you a back ground story about each.

On one planet you might find a destroyed civilization which has been destroyed for thousands of years. On the planets moon you find a crashed rocket from the civilization with the story of the civilization destruction as well as a location on the planet where you can get a special tech or the location of a handful of survivors.

You are given command or are tagging along on another ship for a certain mission and a mutiny occurs on the ship and you are captured by the mutineers.

One of your crew dies and you discover that they have no family or next of kin. You can cast their body off into space or return their body to their planet of birth for a proper burial (this could include a cut scene).

Might be too big a concept for a side mission but I'd like to see a scenario where after a violent encounter with the main enemy of the game, we crash on a planet with a less advanced civilization. We'd have lost our weapons and and the omnitool is not really applicable to their low level of technology, so we have to use their weapons to defend ourselves if needed or rely on melee and biotics (you could even have some class specific cutscene where you can impress the natives with your magic, Star Wars like :)). You then have to defend yourself with these limited means against the attackers that shot you down in the first place. Towards the end, you get your hands on your old weapons (and maybe some special stuff like an M-490 Blackstorm or something) and you really get to experience how advanced and more powerful ME weapons really are when compared to older tech.

Before you leave, you get to decide how to handle your unintentional first contact with this species. Do you want to try and make a lasting impression? Tell them about what the future might hold? Maybe even give them some presents in the form of advanced technology? Or do you want to keep a Star Trek Prime Directive based approach, swear any witnesses to secrecy and leave as little trace of your incursion as possible?

You could even make this whole scenario more complicated by placing a remnant structure on the planet which is a holy place for the indigenous people. Now what do you do? Take it by force? Leave it and the advantages it could give you? Try to negotiate? Options, options.

I think this could be very interesting, especially since I am never quite sure how less advanced civilizations are handled in the ME universe. I am not sure if there are any protocols or established policies in place. I guess there must be but it would be cool to experience a potential conflict in that regard in person and gain some insight.

I guess you'd have to design at least one weapon, specific for this mission. The mechanics could be essentially the same, only that you retexture the thermal clips into some other form of ammunition and give the weapons very bad stats (long reload times, little damage, etc.).

Yea, so it might be a bit extensive for a side mission but you know, that's what popped into my head. :)

Why not some sidemissions in space, in a zero gravity map?

We are in space most of the time but we don't made any EVA. Seeing our spaceship from the outside or repairing an other ship or even finding a way to enter a wrecked ship... Would be interesting!

Making some prospect to find the better place for a new mine would be interesting too : you wander with the mako, searching for the better spot and once you choose you'll see the material landing and the first persons working on the place.

If you have a base colony, recruit some specialist may be an interesting sidequest  : If you want some young Quarians to made their pilgrime with you, the main character will have to be persuasive.

And... I want to be able to make a big waterpool to have Hanar!
