Did I see Rendon Howe in Trespasser?

Of course not, but I was going for a spoiler free title since this topic isn't spoiler-free

However, I could have seen Rendon Howe or his scrawnier brother. Oh Teagan, what have they done to you? Seneschal Bran looks so good in comparison. When I saw Teagan's face in the crowd I had no idea who that weasely faced little man was. I still find it hard to believe that's Teagan, the affable pleasant looking man from DAO and DA2. Now he looks shrunken, all nose and beady eyes under some weird hat.

Then when he started ranting . . . I thought maybe he was channeling Loghain. Ever see one of those late night shows where they show you two celebrities and then a mish mash of what their children would look like? If Loghain and Howe had a child - Trespasser Teagan. I would hope he gets better (I'm not that far into Trespasser) but I've read enough that I'm not counting on it.

Teagan,

The Wardens never invaded Ferelden. They were kicked out. Go ahead, keep insulting your sort of nephew. And the Wardens did save Fereldan.

The Inquisition is in Skyhold. I'm not sure if it's technically in Ferelden or not, but they haven't expanded their physical territory beyond the boundaries of property nobody was using, anyway.

I'm trying to head canon how this change could have happened. Got it - when he was kicked out of Redcliffe by Alexius the magister used blood magic and didn't care about finesse.

Kind of a clickbait-y title but whatever, I'll bite.

He has been on the decline, but do be fair it has been more than a decade.

Not sure but if you take the keep in Crestwood does that count as expanding physical property?

Growing older does not fundamentally change your features - like eye colour and nose shape. Add some puffiness, wrinkles etc but the kind of changes in look for Teagan  require plastic surgery. Apparently he had a personality change too,

It was totally unnecessary to have Teagan at the meeting so I don't get why they bothered - once they could render a proper model. And as an aside didn't we just help Teagan in a war table mission?

How quickly we forget.

That might be a reasonable point. I guess that goes for all three keeps.

Bandits had one and used it as a base to terrorize the villagers.

The Venatori and red templars had one in nowheresville.

A demon controlled one so he could help grow red lyrium.

I wasn't thinking of kicking out and keeping bad guys out so much as, hmm, say taking over Redcliffe, the Hinterlands, the Exalted Plains. Under whose jurisdiction is Caer Bronach? If it's Teagan's maybe he thinks we're going to ask him to reimburse for the cost of repairs, patrols in the last few years, etc.

We didn't expand, in that respect. If there are rightful owners somewhere, bring a claim. We returned Redcliffe Castle back to its owner, after all. And look how that turned out for us.

Huh, that really does look almost just like Arl Howe and not a older Tegan.

His behaviour seems to fit with his brother and "nephew" but. Did he was irradiated or something? Eyes do not turn blue just like that, and he's also getting bald.

He had blue eyes in Origins, they just fixed the brown eye mistake of 2 and some people do go bald with age.

I was really shocked by his behaviour, he seemed to like the wardens in origins, was grateful for the HOF and Alistair's help and did not believe when Loghain tried to blame them for Cailan's death, so this sudden turn around hatred for them was so out of the blue.

I'm sure Teagan was picked because it would make his point of view more emphatic for players to understand. If he was just a random Fereldan NPC with no relations to any past characters a player could have cared about I'm certain there wouldn't be anywhere near this much backlash for it.

A decade isn't nearly enough to justify it.

The man has aged 30 years in just 10.

Teagan also appears in Masked Empire, as the Fereldan ambassador to Orlais. While he's there, Gaspard and his bard try their damnedest to insult Ferelden at every turn, to great approval of the court. It's clear they want to provoke hostilities, or better yet, push Ferelden into provoking hostilities.

Celene's quick thinking de-escalates the situation, but the more warmongering chevaliers are very upset at her actions. Orlais occupied Ferelden until very, very recently (the occupation ended during Teagan's lifetime). He'd only have to make a few visits to Orlais to make it abundantly clear that they want it back, and soon.

So that's what Teagan's been doing in the lead-up to Inquisition. Now he's sitting on an Exalted Council, in Orlais, next to an Orlesian delegate who clearly wants the Inquisition's army under their leash. And why wouldn't he try? The Inquisition's been far more involved with Orlesian nobles than Ferelden's, courting allies and striking deals. If it looks like cheese, smells like cheese, and all of its friends are cheese, it's probably an Orlesian organization. So Teagan has plenty of reasons to distrust this Inquisition.

We also helped King Alistair (in my particular pt) more than once, including negotiations with Orlais. Yes, we struck deals with some Orlesian nobles so we could do what we wanted/needed but not everybody was happy about it. The people who we sided against? I'm thinking they are not allies or friends. Another point, we are not under Orlais' control. We kept Celene on the throne. Since we have not encroached since Cory was defeated, maybe Teagan should be looking at making an alliance with us and promoting the Inquisition's independence. A well-trained army between Orlais and Ferelden? Doesn't sound bad to me. If the Inquisition disbands, where are all those soldiers going to go? Probably Orlais.

I wonder if the Orlesians are worried the Inquisition might try to take over Orlais?

@NeverlandHunter

Umm, what's clickbait-y exactly? I wanted people's thoughts but I didn't want a spoiler in the title. I am not being snarky or anything, just curious. And maybe uninformed.

You know that Warden Alistair speaks crap of a non romanced HoF that survived through the Dark Ritual, and that he dumps whatever you did for him if you choose recruit Loghain, this is not surprising after all, neither on Anora's case, she told Cautherin you kidnapped her to escape.

As for the fear of invasion, Orlais doesn't have anything to fear since you needed their army to assault Mythal's temple, but Ferelden is other story, if you side Qunari on Bull's mission (trust me is better if you don't do that) it will take a single Venatori fireship to burn down Denerim, so, it is required a minimal force to take over Ferelden, part of their paranoia is justified I'm affraid.

Plus, a while back the Grey Wardens tried to assassinate Ferelden's monarch. It's why they were exiled for a long time, only being allowed back in shortly before the Fifth Blight.

So Ferelden doesn't immediately trust organizations that claim to be politically neutral. That trust has burned them before.

Teagan served as Ferelden's ambassador to Orlais in the Masked Empire novel so it makes sense why he would be appointed to represent them on a council. Alas, why he wasn't with Alistair for the peace talks with Orlais since he's served as an ambassador before (and Alistair's an idiot post DAO) I dunno, especially when he's married to Anora (which would really just need Anora to go instead of Alistair).

All things considered, Teagan doesn't look entirely different from his other incarnations but he certainly doesn't look great. I still find his DA2 self to be the worst, and it would've been nice if his DAI self looked more like his DAO self.

I mean, Eamon's in his 40s and he looks like he's in his late 60s.

Politics leads to stress. Stress leads to anxiety. Anxiety leads to aging a lot sooner.

People get old.  The only thing that really made me go "hey" was when he started badmouthing the Wardens.  Well, excuse you, they'll just leave your Redcliffe and your entire country to burn in Blight next time.  :P
