I don't think it will be Cole will be a recurring companion since he would require twice as much writing as another character. One script for spirit-Cole, one script for human-Cole.

Nevermind, I hadn't realized how long ago the post I was quoting was. Carry on.

The elven leader or member of a slave rebellion in Tevinter?

I'd dig that especially if the character strays into moral ambigiouty because the rebels have to do what they consider necessary to stay alive and achieve their goal against enemies who have few moral qualms about how they go about dealing with the rebellion since the longer the rebellion lasts the more embarassing it is for them.

Alternatively, they could be a member of an underground railroad in Tevinter that helps people escape slavery and adapt to freedom.

Bonus for both as companions.

Both could also tie into the Solas plot if that comes into play in Dragon Age 4: The rebellion or railroad has ties to members of Solas' organization or the organization itself either knowingly or not though I'd doubt either would know of his goal since I cannot imaging that would be common knowledge.

My thoughts:

Archers Sera and Harding.

Rogues  Zevran and a new character.

Warriors Cassandra/new character-maybe a rouge Grey Warden.

Mage Pentra or new character.

Dwarf new character or none.

How about a new story line no mage or Templar upraising. A slave upraising would be nice.

I like a good choice of companions instead of a limited fixed group like DA:2.. In short I want control over my group like in DA:O where I had a wider choice examples 3 rogues/mage, three warriors /mage, 2 mages and 2 rogues or two warriors or three fighters and a golem and no mage.

I don't believe we will have a qunari companion at all. That would require some explanation. Dorian himself says, if he is with Bull, that a qunari could never walk around Tevinter without being attacked on sight.

I believe there are qunari slaves in Tevinter.

You could definitely have a Tal-Vashoth companion in Tevinter, provided they hadn't formerly been a Ben-Hassrath spy.   That is the chief problem with Bull; the authorities in Tevinter would probably never be convinced he had genuinely turned against the Qun.    What would be interesting would be if they had a female qunari as companion (which apparently was what Bull was originally going to be) and she was a Saarabas who had managed to escape the Qun and was now being apprenticed to a Magister because they wanted to learn about the nature of her powers.    I would think studying a saarabas would be of particular interest to Tevinter because the attitude of the Qun to magic would mean they would absolutely want to avoid breeding one.   So the mage would have come about through the complete opposite of the Tevinter selective breeding for mages.

Other than that I would have thought you could have any race as a slave of Tevinter, either born there or captured elsewhere and brought there by slavers.

I would imagine that the Tevinter are not averse to recruiting mercenaries (as shown by the current comic series), which would allow for a greater range of back story for potential companions.      A mercenary that hailed from the Anderfels would be interesting

There also seems a fair bit a two way movement with regard to study, since Felix went to Val Royeaux university to study mathematics, so presumably the opposite might be true with regard to mages, particularly with restrictions being relaxed and the College of Enchanters existing under every Divine.    Dorian and his parents travelled to Nevarra and seemed to be on good terms with nobility there, so I can see Mortalitasi spending time Tevinter to widen their knowledge.

What I would like to see is a Rivani seer because their whole culture seems so different to anything we have previously encountered, apart from perhaps the Avaar.   May be you could have a male seer who had left because he resented the matriarchy of Rivain and thus crossed over into Tevinter in search of greater advancement.   However, he could still be faithful to his pantheistic roots, which would make a change in pace from the Chantry, whether white or black.

I have yet to read the whole thread but I'd throw in Ser Jory's kid (either male or female, depending on the team's gender balance) as a dps rogue. He/she would be of age if DA4 is set roughly 15 or more years after DAO. Past links are always nice.

Seen someone mentioning a werewolf before, and YES totally. I had such high hopes to have Swiftrunner join my party back in the day, 'tis needs to be remedied. I really miss beast/nonhuman characters, Qunari don't count.

Speaking of Qunari (or Kossith to be more precise), I'd really like a female one this time around, either a Tal-Vashoth or a completely oblivious one (someone raised by humans or something). A Qun follower wouldn't be a smart choice for the PC in the present conflict, whereas a strongly anti-Qun Kossith person could provide interesting scenarios (someone mentioned a mage Qunari above, I approve of that).

As for walking expositions from cultures we don't know much about yet, someone from the Anderfels or a Chasind would be nice.

Harding is indeed pretty much a given (and yay for that) but I sure wouldn't jump for joy for Calpernia...  Rooting for Marius though.

A werewolf companion would be interesting. Rather than a reaver/ beserker there can be someone that can temporarily (or simply be) transform into werewolf.

Would be nice to have a truly non-humanoid companion again like we had in DAO... especially with DA4.

A demon companion would be nice. All DA games we had Spirit companions, I'd love a pure demon companion.

A dwarven "mage" (Valta) would TRULY be nice.

Still, when it comes to companions it'll be hard to top Inquisitions list: Elvhen "god", a spirit-turned human/ vice-versa, a magister (what Dorian became in the end), a would-be Grand Enchanter ..... Sera.

The only thing i can think of is maybe having an Old God or one of the 7 magisters be a companion, lol.

I don't like tha idea of a group of wierdos and freaks.

One is ok. Two maybe.

Although I've appreciate some of them, a party with Shale, Justice, Cole, Anders, Solas, Valta, Fenris etc. would be unbearably trash, IMO.

I didnt see this thread when i started a new one, but here are my picks for DA4

Iron Bull: If they were going to roll over any of the current companions, it has to be Hisraad of the Ben Hathreth. Not only was he by far the most popular character because of his hilarious dialogue but his story was probably the deepest of all the companions and regardless as to whether he remains loyal to Qun or not, can easily be written into the next installment and visually, its just freaking cool seeing him fight by your side, its a video game, the whole point is for it to be fun and visually satisfying.

Secret Character: With that said a really cool feature to throw into the next installment would be the acquisition of a secret companion based on your decisions from  DAI, such as being able to recruit Krem as a companion if the chargers survive Iron Bull's personal quest or being able to recruit Fiona if your inquisitor sided with the Redcliff mages.

Dagna: Two big reasons to have Dagna as a companion, the first is that Dragon Age has always given us really great NPC Dwarves but really owe us when it comes to Companion Dwarves. Ogren was slightly entertaining but his brutish nature made him really two dimensional, Sigrun.... sucked, and even though Varric was one of the coolest characters they've come up with to date, i felt really shortchanged by the fact that he was the only Dwarf Companion for two back to back installments. The second reason is because with her weird enchantment skills it would be great to see her introduced as the first Dwarf that fills the function of a mage, essentially giving her a unique class specialization that falls under the mage tree but it really just a mage version of the artificer specialization.

Scout Harding: Reason 1: She is a personal favorite. 2: It would be nice to have several Dwarf companions in addition to several companions from other races to make building your group that much more fun and interesting (i like my group in game to have a representative from each playable race personally) 3: finally a Dwarven archer who uses a real bow lol.

Ariane: For those who don't remember her, Ariane is a companion character to the Warden in the Witch Hunt DLC. She is a Dalish Warrior. Bioware has never given us an Elf Warrior to play with in a main title, so its long overdue if you ask me. Id personally like to explore more lore about the Emerald Knights and her being a Dalish warrior, discovering knowledge on the knights could easily be part of her companion quests or even her own specialization.

Saarebas: A Qunari Mage with its own skill tree reflecting the Qunari's physical way of using magic would be awesome. They could even write in her Qunari keeper as a non playble NPC who just tags along but never says anything because he's watching the Saarebas like a hawk. I think this would work really well if he was actually 8 feet tall like the final boss of the Trespasser DLC.

Human Male Blood Mage: I'm talking straight up evil to the core, sacrificing babies and summoning Demons like its going out of style. They've never given us a morally black companion character before and i would love to play with the idea of the Devil being in their mists trying to corrupt my main character at every turn.

Human From Rivain: Rivain is one of the Nations of the DA Universe that is rarely mentioned it would be great if they throw in a character from this nation such as a spymaster rogue to balance out the Comp i'm proposing a little more.

Dalish Archer: Never had two Dalish companions in a single game before. It would be great if he came from a clan that had very different customs or even a disliking toward Ariane's Clan so we could see some of the cultural schisms that exist within the Dalish community. This would be particularly interesting seeing as Solas has been built up as the big bad of the next installment. Have Arianne be pro Thedas and this Archer be pro Elven immortal empire restored and see the in game character drama unfold.

So that' pretty much my dream set up for DA4. Tell me what you guys think.

Calpernia could be really interesting. Also, we previously had an ally turn into an antagonist. Could be intriguing to watch an antagonist turn into an ally.

If I were to bring back old allies / characters I would go with HoF as an NPC, Leliana, Cassandra, Dorian and Sera.  Perhaps Hawke.  I was never overly keen on Zevran.  Perhaps Sten and definitely Morrigan.  None of the Awakening characters did much for me frankly.  From DA2 besides Hawke I think Bethany and Isabella.  Fenris was a tad too hate filled for my taste, and I can't support the mass murdering Anders.  Varric is another choice.  I would never pick Alastair.

Frankly I like the idea of NPC's above and new characters as party companions.

Having a real Grey Warden would be nice. A Rivani mage would be cool to finally to see as well.
