Not really. The whole plan is totally insane. It maybe makes some sense in a world where a Loghain isn't currently winning a civil war and the blight isn't overrunning Thedas, but at that point Arl Teagan is the infinitely saner option.
The end goal is "find the Holy Grail". That the preface is "Here's a religious historian who's conviced it's totally truly real" doesn't make it less kooky, even if it turns out that scholar got swiped.
The whole thing falls apart unless you believe it exists. Maybe a wackjob cult thinks they have the Holy Grail and kidnapped an equally (if differently) crazy Chantry scholar. That doesn't prove the Holy Grail exists or it's worth travelling back and forth across Ferelden for it during a Blight.
It made sense. Isolde had the knights out searching for the Urn. The only way she or Teagan (if she is dead) will call them back from the search is if the Warden goes out to find it. So it makes perfect sense in getting the knights back to Redcliffe so they can have a force to combat Loghain's if necessary.
It doesn't fall apart. The point of the Warden seeking out Genetivi and the Urn is to confirm if it exists or not. Even if it doesn't exist, that means the most likely avenue of the Urn being found is closed off and proven to be dead end. That would then allow Isolde or Teagan to call of the search and send the knights to support the Warden's efforts.
Taking the Urn quest means the knights can return to Redcliffe. It makes perfect sense.
