Hello, I'm new here. Sorry for my bad english

I just finished my first ever playthrough of the mass effect franchise,

and OMG what an experience. I dont understand how i could miss this trilogy.

I played all 3 games with all DLC except for the first ME. Imported the save file from game to game to get the most out of the story.

I started this playthrough thinking it would be like any other RPG I have played, oh how wrong I was. This franchise shattered my expectations. Without a doubt the best expereince i ever had. I actually cared about the people (and AI's) I met.

I invested alot of time in it, making decisions really felt important and how it followed you to the next game got me really invested.

This might sound silly, but there were some moments in the game that actually made me cry. I have never done that before because of a game.

anyways, now i want to play thru it again as a female and different class and backround. And i have some questions.

as much as i liked the story in ME1, the combat didnt feel good at all IMO. And now im asking if it's possible to start new on ME2 and doing genisis dlc, will i miss out on alot of things ?

Should I just play thru it anyways ?

Thanks.

The only things you will miss by not playing ME1 is Conrad Verner will not be seen, Gianna Parasini won't be in ME2, Shiala won't be in ME2 is she wasn't killed  on Feros and Jenna won't be seen in ME3 to save Conrad if her side quest was done in ME1

If interested, you can post your playthrough in this thread.

And so Mass Effect claims another victim, hehe. Welcome :)

And it doesn't sound silly you cried. I tend to cry playing ME, and I know some more people on here do too :D

I tried to use Genesis once and was very disappointed. Feros colony is considered destroyed. The Rachni Queen is dead. Captain Kirahee is dead. Not having Conrad around means you lose out on a discount at one of the stores at Illium. I don't remember if the Genesis comic allows you to pick Liara as a romance or not.

Even though I find ME1's gameplay to be very, very clunky, I think it is worth it playing your Shepard through ME1 because this will strengthen your role playing. You get to live the experience of your Shepard making the choices and why they are making those choices. This will give your Shepard a better grounding into who they are in the later games.

Thanks for the answers :)

I have decided to start a new playthru starting from the first game, and then post my progress in the thread themikefest mentioned, But i have another question.

Is it worth getting the Bring Down The Sky and Pinnacle Station DLC's for the first game ?

Pinnacle Station: No.

Bring Down the Sky: Maybe, leaning towards yes. Since you already met Balak in ME3, it might help you get to know who this character is and why you might want to shoot him. Depending on your choices, he might not even make it to ME3. The DLC will provide more opportunity for role playing, but it has lots of stupid Mako stuff and there is this one section where you have to navigate a 5 pixel wide pathway. Tedious is an understatement.

Bring down the sky is OK, Pinnacle Station, not so much.
If you have the steam version on PC, you can register the game at origin & download the origin version that has both of those.

Ah, you sound like me when I first played the trilogy a couple years ago. I had been aware of the series for a while, but I didn't get into it until a little later. I remember being blown away and I was kicking myself and asking why it had taken me so long to jump in. In some weird way, it ME kind of helped me cope with the passing of my grandfather. So it has a special place in my heart. It really does have those emotional and heavy moments, I love that.

As far as ME1's DLC goes, Bring Down the Sky is just okay (stupid blast caps ruined it for me) and you can pass on Pinnacle Station.

The Genesis comic is a mixed bag. A lot of the smaller stuff like Captain Kirahee's fate and Conrad Verner aren't included. I feel more attached to Shepards that I went through ME1 with. Even though ME1 has aged and it's clunky and the MAKO is a pain in the butt, I like bringing Shepard through all three games.

The Rachni Queen is dead.

The comic lets you choose to kill her or save her

I cried like a baby during my first trilogy playthrough. It didn't help that Mordin and Thane died within a few hours of each other.

Agreed, and just to add, as clunky as ME1 is, it's a super fast runthrough. If you don't bother with all the collection side quests it's actually not a very long game at all. You can shoot through it pretty fast to get to ME2.

So many feels in this game. When Mordin sacrifices himself to cure the genophage. Loved that magnificent Salarian.
Thanks for the info, but i have decided to make a complete playthru again :)
It's worth it

Glad to hear you've enjoyed the ride!

Don't worry about crying. Pretty sure you're not the first or last.  :D I normally almost never cry, but these games somehow hit me hard. It's probably, as you say, you come to care about the characters and the universe as such and it's sad to see them get hurt and worse. I must say ME has definitely become my favourite video game experience, as well. I didn't see that coming at all when I picked it up a few months ago.

But anyway, I think ME1 deserves another shot. I know the gameplay can be clunky, but I discovered plenty of new things on my subsequent runs. Many new details. Even some smaller missions I totally missed. Some I solved in completely new ways. Especially with new background and playing as the other gender, you'll see a lot of new content. You can try doing things in different order and with different companion set-up, try different dialogue options with them, etc. to keep it fresh, too. But that's just my opinion anyway.

I played Engineer on my second run and had so much fun hacking geth, that was just great :)

Lifting enemies with biotics is also equally fun. I still like ME1 a great deal, too.

Thanks :) yeah, i'm sure i'll cry again when i play thru it.
I'm thinking about how to start my femshep. Thinking of going colonist, war hero, adept Clas. With as much Paragon as i can.

In My first playthru i played Male earthborn, sole survivor as a soldier. With really mixed Paragon and renegade.

Might get even worse from now, ha. I swear it's worse for me with every time. Because the more often you play ME, the more you get attached to everyone... The sadder it gets.

Have fun with Adept! It's a good class, I really enjoyed it.

Yay another sort of newcomer? XD anyways glad you loved the trilogy i did too XD suprisingly i started with ME2 which i quickly rectified by buying the first game so i suggest as tedious as it might be try playing the first you learn alot and alot of things you can do with ME1 and if you played with mix paragon and renegade scores i suggest trying to play a full renegade female character or a full paragon male character and switch the background stories lots of potential for replay!

and also I cried like a baby despite spoiling myself of the ending so your definitely not alone :) and it goes to show what a great and emotional game bioware can make! So have fun with ur newest character :D

Wait, how can I do this? I'd like to play BDtS, but can't find anything in Steam that serves as a key to register the game in Origin.

Oh, boy, the Colonist backround mission will shatter your heart if you decide to go through ME1 again.  :D That was the very first thing that made me cry in the ME franchise. It destroyed me emotionally. I totally recommend it. But that's all I'm going to say not to spoil anything.

My main Shep is a Colonist/Sole Survivor, Soldier, and mix of Paragon and Renegade, leaning more towards Paragon. I've had a blast with her.

Your set-up sounds like fun! Both of the characters.
