you havent been gaming long enough if you think mass effect or any of the sequels are anywhere near the best gaming experience.  Congrats finding it though.

That's... eh.

I've been playing games for over 15 years (in an obsessive way), played many many games myself, watched friends and my brother play many games, and ME is one of the best experiences for me as well. Maybe even the best. Just because you don't think so doesn't mean others can't.

Games can still be loved even when they're flawed.

I've been gaming since I was pre-school age. I'm freshly 27 now. I've still enjoyed ME best so far. But what the hell are we even talking about? This is deeply subjective. Nobody's ever claimed otherwise. You can have a favourite or guilty pleasure despite it not being the best game in history/on the market as regards its overall quality.

Pinnacle Station: No.

Bring Down the Sky: Maybe, leaning towards yes. Since you already met Balak in ME3, it might help you get to know who this character is and why you might want to shoot him. Depending on your choices, he might not even make it to ME3. The DLC will provide more opportunity for role playing, but it has lots of stupid Mako stuff and there is this one section where you have to navigate a 5 pixel wide pathway. Tedious is an understatement.

I thought Pinnacle Station was only now available on the original "Platinum Hits" Xbox 360 discs (and I have it on that format) due to the code being corrupted beyond repair or something.

Still IMHO it's the one most worthless DLCs in the whole trilogy (ME2: Genesis and ME3: Genesis 2). Basically take the combat simulator out of ME3: Citadel and strip out all the fun and squadmates and you get what Pinnacle Station is. The only thing you get is a useless apartment (I'll take Anderson's pad on the Citadel over this dump any day of week) with a line to some cargo or smuggler ships that can get you some high-level stuff if you have the money. It's all random so you might end up with 6 rare level 10 quarian armors and no krogan, turian, human light, medium, or heavy and/or a ton of level 10 Spectre guns.

Bring Down The Sky is recommended because it's where Shepard meets Balak and you are given the option to shoot him or let him go. It also tries to do something different with the interiors of bases, their are some very annoying things like trying to navigate through a minefield which can be very annoying if you don't take out the enemies first.

Heck I've been gaming since 1974. I will say the ME trilogy is the best trilogy I've played. Yes there are other trilogies out there, but those I haven't played.

I've been gaming probably longer than you've been alive and it's probably my favorite experience if we limit it too computer/video games.

My favorite experience was Pole Position back in the days of arcade games, but that was because I could "drive" at the age of 10. Other than that, Mass Effect is definitely one of the best games with the deepest characterizations and relationships, excellent and consequential choices that carry over all three games, and overall the best role-playing experience I've ever had. Not that I think it's perfect, but in terms of emotional impact and sheer replayability it certainly is the best I've played.

Ah pole position, the quarter eater.

I remember back in the day when I was in my early 20s heading to Reno NV for some gambling with a friend.  Being young and dumb I decided to drive extremely recklessly.  When I passed the semi on the right in the gutter with feet to spare to get back on the freeway before the bridge cut off would have dropped me into the ravine. My friend whimpered, "what are you doing playing pole position."  I felt like all the quarters finally had paid off.

Wait, how can I do this? I'd like to play BDtS, but can't find anything in Steam that serves as a key to register the game in Origin.

I haven't got steam installed to try it, but if you right click on the game in your library. it should say "view CD key"

Enlighten us, Master Yoda.

OK.  Lets go back to the beginning of mainstream gaming at home shall we? (yes I really am that old....)

Those of us who are older (I'm 46 shortly to be 47) will remember right back to the first home gaming experiences.  2 paddles playing ping pong on your telly, the first home consoles, the first affordable home computers, the first affordable home PC's, the playstation generation etc...  We've seen it all.

For some, the greatest gaming experience would be picking up an atari 2600 joystick and booting up pitfall.  For others it would be booting up the Spectrum 48k and playing jet set willy.

My greatest gaming experience would be picking up an original playstation and playing through final fantasy 7.

and then Final Fantasy 8 - my fave FF game.  Well ahead of it's time.

For some it may indeed be Mass Effect.  It's a little bit late of an arrival for me to class it as the best gaming experience.  I'm not saying it's not one of the best series, just that to define it as the best of anything might be over-egging it a little.  Each to his or her own I suppose.

So Get out there.  There are more games out there than Mass Effect.  Consider other games and embrace them all.  Games like EVE online, Destiny, The Witcher series, The Dragon Age Series (kudos Bioware on DAI.), World of Warcraft, The Elder Scrolls Games, The Half Life series, Halo, or if you fancy something a little retro how about Super Mario Bros, or even Mario Kart.

I loved FF8, but found 7 to be too boring for me (unpopular opinion, I know!), but you said it yourself. The point is "to each his/her own". Games might be considered great or even masterpieces, but it doesn't help if they are not to your taste. To the day, I don't know why FF7 is boring to me, it definitely has a lot of good things, but I tried playing it 3 times, and still I feel nothing much when playing it. FFX on the other hand is my favourite FF, I love it on so many levels.

I guess we all just have to be open that not every game is for every person, and that some feel a stronger attachment to certain games. Even when they are flawed.

I loved DAI, but as soon as I finished ME3 earlier this year (very late to the party), I couldn't bring myself to another playthrough. I finished it 3 times last year, and I'm currently trying to finish Trespasser DLC, but what am I doing? I play a bit, piece by piece, then immediately return to the ME universe... and I am not planning on stopping very soon :D

Fair enough. But as i Said. For me the Journey i had thru ME was the best i ever had. Thats why i wrote It was My best experience.
I can understand that you feel otherwise. I'm only 25 so i was not around back then.
But i still think i have played alot of games. Almost all the games you mentioned i have played. Some i have only tried a little.
I remember when i starter Playing wow back in 04. I was hooked on that game for years. And the half life series, i Loved those to.
TES was also really good, but i only played from morrowind and forward. But i digress.
We are afterall on a ME3 forum, and thats why i came here to tell that it was My best gaming experience i had.

IMO none of the other games i played came close to the feeling i have Playing mass effect. The characters you meet, the choices you make. Everything feels like it changes the world around you. Made me really care about what i do.
But as you said. Each to her/his own

That's all well and good, and I'm only slightly younger than you so most of what you mentioned I either experienced either myself or through my older brothers. For the sake of reminiscence I can talk about the time my brother beat my mom at Pong with his back turned. Or that Atari game where your character was literally just a square and you had to find keys and treasures and open the gates to castles and fight dragons to rescue the princess. Or Evil Otto! Great character. There was also a game that was (I guess?) kind of a space shuttle flight simulator and that's how I learned what roll, pitch and yaw were.

So yeah, I've had my share of "great gaming experiences." I think my point was exactly what I stated above though. I haven't played a video game before ME that left me feeling so personally attached to the characters and to my own protagonist. I loved Morrowind but I've been disappointed with Bethesda's products since then. Origins came very close to that feeling I got from playing Morrowind while being a much better RPG than Morrowind was. I loved Neverwinter Nights 2, for pete's sake.

There are a lot of ways to describe a great gaming experience and someone in their 20's who's relatively new to gaming (I mean, in the grand scheme of things, really) shouldn't be disregarded just because they never picked up a joystick or had to blow dust off cartridges. That's just nostalgia talking.

Funny, of all those games you mentioned, I've played them all, and Mass Effect still remains one of the best gaming experiences I ever had, that's why I'm here, and that's why you should respect those who also think the same way and spare us of your cliché "In my time...." monologue. You don't know me or anyone else here, so save it.

Much appreciated.

"In my cycle, videogames were the better experience. All I see now is... primitives playing what they think are good videogames. Throw them out of the airlock." :P

Not making fun of anyone here btw, but I had to think of Javik when reading this, haha.

Have you tried the citadel dlc ? It provides a little more closure. One of the best dlc to this game IMO.
I also romanced tali on My first playthru. Rannoch have a nice atmospheric feel :) would be nice to go there

I was ready to disagree with this, but lauding FFVIII wins me over most times ;)

That being said, ME, nope, I've been playing since the days of Pong myself, but nothing's really given me as much enjoyment as ME, not even FF.

You aren't the only one who's cried. First playthrough I didn't do many of the loyalty missions in ME2. In ME3, when Grunt sacrificed  himself, I was a mess. My wife came running in asking what the hell was going on (and yes she laughed.. but she's since played the series and understands - Mordin's sacrifice gets her every time).

Anyway after Grunt died I stopped and replayed ME2. I have never forgotten the loyalty missions again (except Jacob - he can die ;: )

The only other game I've played that has come close to  emotional was a modded Skyrim (InterestingNPC's mod has some very tender and sad moments).

But you know, the is what is missing from DAI. The sadness, no drama. Sure, DAI has create chars but they are mostly one dimensional to me. And I think why is because most of your companions are new. So I wasn't vested in any of them. I didn't care about them. And frankly, no one dies or gets seriously hurt.

Anyway, welcome to the fan club.
