They too are likely to have fancy powers only in cutscenes - 'full of hot air', as the saying goes.

You could look at it as we used him to get what we wanted. Even at the end of it all, even if he hates our guts, he still can't kill us since doing so would only cause more chaos for his "people".
 
Also, this seems pretty rewritey. Skyhold doesn't have any elven looks to it at all. No mosaics. And for it being his, it doesn't have any paintings aside from those he makes while he is there in the present era.

There is a painting of Ghilan'nain in the stable behind Blackwall, and a statue in the garden that could be elven (I think it's the same that those marking the Emerald Graves ?). There is also the arrow on the roof with elven inscription I think ? Not many clues, but added with the codex entries...

Maybe it has been built, destroyed and rebuilt several times by different races, so if you dig deep enough you find elven stuff buried under rumbles.

Skyhold was built on a elven ritual site, which was confirmed in Trespasser to indeed be the place he created the veil. So yes, Skyhold is his, even if the Fereldens built a new fortress over it.
