I killed Ser Hildebrand, one of the wanted templars in the Exalted Plains.  However the quest marker is still on the map, and I did not get credit for killing Ser Hildebrand in Cassandra "hit list" quest.

Is this a known bug?

Unfortunately I quick saved after killing him before I noticed the glitch, and I do not have another recent save.

I suppose I am crap out of luck?  ... or is there a solution?

This quest in general is quite buggy. I've found good Ser Hildy quite difficult to kill myself with his quest marker remaining after killing him (on two separate playthroughs no less). Another type of bug with this quest is the person/persons not spawning at all.

Both bugs resolved for me by leaving the area and coming back. Might not work for you, but it is worth a try I think,

If you go into your Journal and track another quest and then close the journal, then check if it completes. If you still have more objectives on the same quest, then check in the journal if its updated there. The quest on screen can be quite bugged from time to time, it won't always complete or update objectives.

I had it bug on me my most recent playthrough in exactly this way.  I didn't have a workaround.  I just saved prior to doing it (I do a lot of saving because I've been having more CTD's since Trespasser came out) so I was able to reload and try again. This time instead of range killing him (I was a mage) I got inside his camp and killed him up close and personal and Cass said her line, the quest updated and I got credit.  Maybe you need to be right in his face when you kill him?  I made sure after that to do it every time this way (he was the first) thinking the whole thing may require you be in the camp when killing the target.

Are any of your warriors or you using the Lunge and Slash ability? According to Bioware and other players, its causing CTD's. It should be patched, but they are so slow.

No, that skill and the Line in the Sand (also a culprit) are both turned off in Tactics.  This is CTD at random, or during loading, which takes forever sometimes now.  I had no issues prior to this, but it's been pretty bad since Trespasser came out.  I usually save after every story point or looting.

Success.

I left the Exalted Plains and came back and went to visit Ser Hildy's camp ... and he respawned.  This time I kiled Hildy up close and personal ... and I got credit this time and the quest marker disappeared.

... Another question from the same area.

I cannot get the snow white wyvern to spawn.  However, I earlier gave Vivienne the ordinary wyvern heart.  I wonder if this is preventing Snow White from spawning. In my previous playthrough I did not give Vivienne the wrong heart, and was able to get Snow White to spawn after wandering a round a bit.

Has any one else had this problem of giving Vivienne the wrong heart and not getting Snow White to spawn?

Am I doomed to have this quest marker and incomplete comanion quest taunt me til' the end of my days?

I can't help with that one, sorry.  I went to the area, had Vivienne with me and it spawned right up.  Killed it, looted it, popped back to Skyhold and passed it to her.  I am unsure, since you already gave her the wrong heart if it's broken or not now.  I know that's a potential outcome to the quest though, I'm surprised it didn't update for you.

Maybe try bringing Vivienne with you there?

On another note, glad you got Cass's quest working for you  :D

If you already gave Vivienne one heart (right or wrong), shouldn't that automatically preclude giving the other one?

... Not if I want to play "The Game" and be a ruthless cold-hearted SOB. LOL
