I just started playing for maybe a week and a half now and so I think I'm doing ok? I'm having trouble trying to figure out what class is good to solo with since I don't like being a burden to groups with weak gear. I currently have Templar, katari(?), elementalist, and duelist unlocked. I've also been trying to understand the armor/weapon crafting? Do we only further upgrade the weapons and armor we already have? I apologize for the questions, just trying to figure what I got myself into lol

Always promote your characters once you hit 20.

If you are looking for durable classes then try get the Arcane Warrior, Silent Sister or Legionaire.

Don't waste your mats on dragon calls and don't waste cotton on low level weapons.

Save up for the 2000 gold chest as it gives you better chances for rare or unique weapons.... You can upgrade your armour with crafting but you could also try get 1 mil exp on Warrior/Rogue/Mage classes to unlock the top tier dragon scale armour.

There are no complete weapons that you craft in Multiplayer. You can only craft certain weapon upgrades that go into certain slots (and you do not get more recipes from loot).

Whole sets of armor may be crafted to unlock classes and to get higher tiers of each armor set. The way that it works is: if you don't have a class at all, the first time you craft their armor, you unlock that class. That then lets you craft variants of that outfit with higher armor values. It also unlocks a separate, higher tier of armor for that class, which has a different name. Once you craft that outfit, it unlocks variants of that higher tier, which have the highest of the crafted armor values. You can tell by the name: the variants have the same base names, just with added adjectives/nouns.

Let me use the Silent Sister as an example. Let's say you don't have her, you want to unlock the class. You would therefore go and craft the "Silent Sister's Cuirass." This unlocks the character, and you can play it. Now if you were to go back into the Armor Crafting menus, you'd see that you could craft four new armors for the Silent Sister: The "Silent Sister's Cuirass of Blood," the "Silent Sister's Cuirass of Bone," the "Silent Sister's Cuirass of Sinew," and the "Silent Sister's Proving Cuirass."

The various "Cuirass of [stuff]" armor are just color variants of your base outfit with higher armor values. Notice how the "Silent Sister's Proving Cuirass" has a different base name and costs slightly more materials to craft than the others. This is because it's considered a higher tier of armor. If you were to craft this and equip it, you would see that it actually changes the character's base model. Once you've crafted the "Proving Cuirass," it also unlocks the "Silent Sister's Proving Cuirass of [stuff]" armors to be crafted. Those cost even more crafting mats and are the same color variants, this time of the "Proving Cuirass" model. Most importantly, this last tier has the highest armor values that you can craft.

This is the basic pattern that armor crafting follows. If you want to progress further and faster, I do recommend crafting the higher tier armors for the classes that you play the most. The change in armor values makes a significant difference in the amount of physical damage you receive. Yes, you will get Drakescale armors by earning a cumulative 1 million exp in their respective class types, but that requires many games (especially if you're playing the lower difficulties), and having the higher tier armors will make those games go faster and smoother.

All armor upgrades (arms and legs) come from loot which is either looted from treasure room chests or comes from the purchased chests in the store.

If you've just started playing, don't worry about crafting weapon upgrades until you start seeing like... Level 22+ stuff. Definitely save your cottons for those (if you don't know, Cotton in Offensive crafting slots gives you Heal on Kill, a vital method of sustain).

Honestly, I would say don't worry too much about not having the gear to play in a group. Let yourself get carried - I'm not saying go AFK and just leech, I'm saying do what you can and watch and learn. By this point in the game's life cycle, there are going to be people who have all the best items and enough promotions that they're practically walking demigods. That's just the way it is; it's not a competition. That gold won't loot itself from those vases!  ;)

Also in conjunction with what scene_cachet said about saving gold up: yes, the 2000 gold chest offers the best bang for your buck. But also, if you're new, spend your gold! Yes, the contents of each individual chest are random (as far as anybody's ever been able to tell). However, the game utilizes a loot bucket system that tracks how many items you've collected over all time. When you hit certain thresholds you progress to higher tier loot buckets and become eligible/more likely to receive high level items. I believe the highest tier comes at 10,000 items collected lifetime (if I'm wrong, somebody please correct me). That means as you spend more gold and open more chests, the game is literally adjusting the pool of potential loot you can get into the higher levels.

I'd say don't worry about "holding people back" because it really isn't that big a deal. If you hang around here enough you'll hear the story of when the promotion lords (people with 100+ promotions in each character) failed in Perilous. As a note, you don't need promotions to be useful in Perilous. Blue armor and level 20+ weapons is enough.

Cloth is the rarest of materials and the cottons are the most treasured of all.

Also you will not get "cool weapons" so even if it is purple don't expect it to be good. At the start the only important factor is the level of the weapon. Once you're getting level 20+ weapons then you can start to care about the weapon's ability.

You may want to wait for someone else to confirm this, but I think it's okay to have weaker weapons with cool abilities on the off-hand dagger because abilities calculate based on main hand dagger.

if we dont have a class unlocked, will we unlock them from the 1 million xp challenge armor?

I want to say yes, but you'll be able to craft the cheap blue armor for everyone way before you get to the 1,000,000 exp point for 1 of the classes. Probably get some of them in chests too.

Also the Virtuoso isn't in the armor chest.

Guys are right, soloing will wear you out and slow down your progress. Routine games have people with decent stuff now, capable of covering for you, if you feel weak, so you won´t most likely be a burden. And even if you occasionally will, that´s how everyone in this game started, it´s normal.

Basic tips...hang back, try to avoid being surrounded at any cost, because that´s almost always death sentence if your character is low level. Crawl away from danger(fire/electricity/ice from dragon balls, cluster of enemies etc.) or try to crawl to covered position if you wait for reviving, so other players have better chances to help you up.

Templar will do you good service, if you are worried about dying. She´s durable and have shield wall to block incoming damage. Once you get to Wrath of heaven+Spell purge combo you can do good aoe damage...

But really...I would just grab whatever you want and charge into public matches and wouldn´t worry about it, it´s just a game :)

Hi, I hope you enjoy yourself here.

Already some good tips in the posts above

My Thread

I think these classes may be best for starters.

Legionnaire: A tough dwarf that specializes in absorbing damage

Reaver: A powerful 2handed warrior that can heal by hitting things and by using abilities

Arcane Warrior: Creates barrier on self by dealing damage, you will need a decent weapon before he's good.

Keeper: Barrier supporter for yourself and (stronger) teammates.

Virtuoso: Alternative (barrier) supporter

Elementalist: Barrier supporter that can also have Death Siphon and strong supportive spells like Firestorm and Wall of Fire.

Heal on Kill is the most valuable weapon trait, especially for a beginner.

You guys are remarkable! I'm taking mental notes of these so that I can start right away! Just starting it's a little difficult to grasp how this game would turn out. I'll definitely look out for using valuable materials, I think I used some out of curiosity x.x is there a site to see what materials gives you which stats/bonus? I've been looking at videos for about a few hours to feed myself some knowledge and it's getting better. About to log in to get my game on in a hour or so. I have Templar unlocked right before I wrote this post so I'll probably use her until I can work my way towards arcane warrior or silent sister. I have been getting a weird bug where I'd join a game and my UI is completely gone and I can only move with my keyboard. I can't cast any aoe telegraphed abilities or my character would stay in a casting animation, hopefully the game would be nice to me so I can get some progress done. Once again thank you guys, so very much!

I think those stats are listed somewhere to the left when you browse through them.

Failing that, you can try and cycle some resources through the weapon upgrades, see what they do.

Thanks for these tips! I think I'm going to save my mats for the silent sister tier 2 armor going off these tips. She seems a really cool character, kind of a warrior rogue.

Guess you are playing on PC it seem to happen there more often. That bug in the UI happens sometimes how often may depend on your graphic card/chip ... if you dont want to play without HUD and mouse you have to use ALT+F4 no other alternatives.

Try to add everyone you had fun with to Origins. Especially if you meet them in public games frequently.

The missing UI bug usually means you have a bad connection with the host and tends to come with lag. In these case if the UI doesn't shows up in a few minute, it is time to restart the game.

The answer is NO.   It is interesting that I could find this out as a newbie because I don't have all my characters unlocked.  Where a vet would already had them unlocked and won't see it.   Anyway, I just found out this weekend that getting the "experience" chest of drakescale armors does not unlock any of those characters.   You have to have the char unlock first (by craft or by loot) to wear the new armors.

Ive just come back from over 6 months.

I recommend when you join a match try to find and invite people as friends that play on your time, AND can be a stable host. I generally play with a few people a few times to see how they hold up and then i add them. im in asia/oceania and theres still quite a few people playing.

There are still connection issues, ive been having no probs after flushing my DNS which takes a few seconds before game play, and will save you frustration and sadness if you do! This week i played several matches, almost about to finish the map and i lost connection. You earn money, maybe loot (can anyone confirm please?) but no exp!! Thats the pain....

Apart from the issues i have been having fun and still coming back, even after smashing my desk a few times after loosing a connection haha.

Enjoy!

As a tip from my coming back, i have noticed tanks are much easier to play in the harder missions like threatening. Mages with barrier are great too. It seems you can win the harder missions much easier with defense over brut force, my ALC, and assasin are great dmg dealers but outside of stealth i get sniped down from archers waaaaaay to easily!

Get a mic so you can talk to the people you play with.  if they seem experienced, ask them questions.

This is maybe for later on, but it's a good tip for when you find yourself in need of cloth (for those higher-level mage armors, for example): http://forum.bioware...uide/?hl=+cloth. All cudos to Black Mambo.
