I always make my first character in a new RPG a Nord, or Dwarf, or Barbarian so once I played through the Jaws of Hakkon I was kind of sadden by the inability to play as an AVVAR since we finally got to see a few AVVAR that were not just doodie covered battle crazy savages.

They only give each race one origin story, so what you're saying the devs "should of" done was make the human origin from the Avvar rather than the Free Marches. Fair enough. Now just try to imagine why the Avvar would have sent an emissary to the northerners' Conclave meeting. You know the Avvar opinion of northerner religion and soceity, right? Then consider which is more plausible- an Avvar emissary or a Free Marches emissary to the Conclave. At that moment you might see why they chose the human origin they did.

It's one thing to speak of what you'd like the devs to have done and another to insist on what the devs should have done.

That said, dwarven reaver is actually an option for a first character, yes? And while I've presumably got you imagining, is there not some head-canon you could dream up for making a Free Marcher character with "barbarian" tendencies? They do give you some wild tattoos to work with even in the vanilla cc.

Oh... and Nords... are Skyrim... This is DA. I did like the JoH hold village as well though...

I still wish we could have had the Avvar origins way back in DAO. Pity that got dropped. Human nobles are so played out.

A qunari character is probably the closest you can come to a barbarian character. They're complete outsiders to human society and they've spent their life being a mercenary.

I wouldn't mind seeing Avvar or Chasind as playable characters at some point in Dragon Age outside of the tabletop, but I don't think DAI was the game for it. And I don't think DA4 is going to be the game for it either - granted we know next to nothing about the game but I don't see Tevinter as the setting for that.

I wonder if Movran the Under and his clan heading to Tevinter suggests that an Avvar companion might be in the mix for DA4?
