Preamble: I had bought ME1 on sale one week on Steam.  I loved the universe, the history, the codex, the aliens (I love Solarians quite a bit, and laughed at both the Elcor and Hanar--very distinctive species unlike any I'd ever seen in SF before).  I didn't finish ME, but part of that had to do with (*sigh*) the elevator issues and not feeling like exploration was tied as much to the core of the game.  That said, good stuff.

ME2 Wows:
--The graphics engine.  Holy crap.  It's smooth like silk, moody, perfect.  I haven't been this amazed by a graphics engine since Half-Life2.  It's truly spectacular, real, just drooltastic.
--The voice matching with facial features is tighter (so it doesn't look lipsynched, but as the characters are speaking).
--I am not far along, but I have to say that Afterlife and all of Omega, for that matter, is almost unparalleled in any gaming experience I've ever had.  It's got such tremendous atmosphere, is instantly identifiable as Mass Effect universe, has tremendous sound qualities and incredible graphics.  This is a bar I'd go to.  I mean, if I were still single ;)...and was still college aged...and packing heat.  Wow...Just Wow.
--Cutscenes--man are they well shot cinematically.  From camera angle to lighting, just unbelievable.  It's as if I'm watching a cinematic make of my character in a very cool SF movie.  Some of the shots have that feeling of "Blade Runner".  Just right...just perfect.
--Voice acting is unparalleled.  I've always loved Shephard's voice.  But when you through in Aussie hotness Miranda, Martin Sheen, and whoever is voicing Zeahn...wowser.  It's a breathtaking experience.
--Story is right on.  I didn't finish ME1, but man now I wish I had.  That said, this is a very well done story that lets newbies in but doesn't force rehashing of ME1's plot on those that know the overall storyline.  Bravo...Perfect.  Best RPG story (thus far) I've ever played.  I really care about all the characters' backstories, and enjoy the conversations (they don't feel tacked on, pseudo-immersive affairs).  Scripting is tight.  Excellent.

ME2 Ohs:
--Whatever happened to omnigel override of minigames?  While I definitely like the concept of the decryption override (it feels fast-paced, intense, and possibly realistic), I really do not like the override (a memory minigame that isn't complex at all).  I realize that there has to be a cost of some kind to hack and whatnot.  But even in games like Bioshock, the minigames eventually feel tedious.  It's a bit irksome, but I'd give a lot to just lose something (like omnigel) to bypass these when I'm more in the mood to just play.
--Why is it all my characters need to autoheal?  I liked using the medigel in ME1 (risk/benefit issues with a very low-availability substance).  It forced me to be conservationist and made me feel I really had to be very careful w/ Shephard.  But now...I just need to be out of line-of-fire for a few secs, and apparently I'm cured.  I can only use medigel for fallen friends.  It feels...sorry Xbox folks, PC guy here...very consolish.  Somehow it unburdens me of the consequence I felt in ME1 (which was a good mechanic).  I was always bothered by "getting better" in games.  I prefer having to find first aid kits and buffs.  I'm not a fan of magically healing without anything but bullet dodging.
--A lot of posts about it, but it's not insignificant: why is specialty armor helmet on 100% of the time.  It killed me buying a drink at Afterlife to see me swig it through my Blood Dragon helmet.  Bah!
--Why can't I keymap actions (i.e., all actions instead of the "generic" action key)?  I have the spacebar now.  Apparently it knows all...I can't break down the commands to "use" keymapped to a letter, take cover to a letter, storm to a letter, etc.  It feels like a bummer because I do play with a keyboard, but most of it cannot be custom keymapped. :(

Takehome:
This is perhaps the best-paced game I've played in a long time.  I am constantly in motion, constantly aware of objectives, and constantly excited about the next move.  This game is superior in all respects to any other RPG I've played.  I should note that I had a hard time with BG1 because I tend not to wander just "to wander" to see what's around.  But in ME2, the lighting, the layout, and the interactions are just begging for you to wander, to seek out, and to experience.  I love DA:O, but there is something I cannot quite place that bumps ME2 above that game even.  The "Ohs" don't bother me that much, and the "Wows" make me want to share the experience with others so they can see it, feel it, and live it.  Just wow...thank you.  This is one of the best deals out there and worth every penny.

Another "Oh":

My create-a-shep, when looked at from certain angles during cinematic scenes, appears to have insanely mountainous cheek bones. Its the 360, are there problems like that in pc version?

I'm glad to know that it wasn't just me.

I just don't even know what to say about your screenname: that's a riot! Swiss quad on a pony? Backstory via pm if you have time :).

Haven't tried a custom Shep on the PC. I'll try one just to check that out!

If you own ME2 on the PC i'd imagine that will be the first thing people will do mods to remove

Also, medigel can be used to heal - and even better, restore shields. Get the unity upgrades. This applies to yourself as well.

Didn't see the unity upgrades included medigel use for non-revival situations. That's a real plus. TY for that!
