Hi,

I am buying the game again, bought a brand new one but shipping got messed up and it got refunded. I'm now torn between buying a new one or going for preowned, as money has been an issue.
If I go for a preowned version, can I still do all the things I can do with a new version...like, import saves from the keep (I understand it as, it has to be done via origin), if that's the case, I assume I can't use a preowned one as when I enter the code it will tell me the code has already been used? And also, would I be able to play multiplayer with a preowned one?

Thanks!

If you plan playing the DLC, the GOTY comes out in a few weeks and is your best bet.

What's your platform?

I already have the ps3 version. But want it on pc as I prefer pc gaming and it's flatshare so ques for tv use. Was looking at a trade in at cex or game. Then upgrading DLC as an when as I get paid weekly.
Just trying to figure out cheapest way of doing it, hence why I'd prefer preowned, but the world states are my biggest priority and concerned about origin if it is preowned. Unless anyone can clarify if it would be possible or not

World states from Keep, using new Golden Nug feature, multiplayer - it's all connected with online options. So... You would need to get sellers Origin account (since I don't think you can start a game without registering it in Origin... though I can be wrong on this one) with a game to actually use those options. I don't really think it's the best solution.

If you're in no hurry, I would wait for GOTY edition (and maybe for sale).

I don't know how Origin handles pre-owned games..if they handle them at all. You could get a new one on Amazon or some other places for around $30 (if you live in the US). But all the DLC comes around to $45. $65 if you include Deluxe upgrade and item packs. Though, you might be able to get them on sale later down the line. Despite it being more money up front, I'd still say that the GOTY edition is the best value in the long run.

I'm not an expert here but wouldn't the seller have to sell his/her Origin account (EA account) along with the game?  The Keep uses the email address associated with your Origin account. Origin and the Keep both require the same email address or rather the same EA account. (BTW, you can't import saves. The Keep is more like a tool that allows you to recreate most decision from the previous games).

I don't know about DAI, but at least you can't play preowned Sims 4 at all so if that's EA's policy for all their games it might be case with DAI as well on PC. Pretty annoying, but I guess expected from EA.

GOTY edition of the game might be your best shot if you are planning buying all DLC's, because it's coming beginning of next month and I think the pricing for US will be 59.99$. Since DLC's are somewhat expensive as well and GOTY version includes them all + item packs it might be best option. Otherwise you could look into buying the game online, you can get it cheaper at some sites. I got my copy from Denmark, since it was like 15 euros cheaper than in my own country there.

You might be able to buy a pre-owned copy of the discs, but the licence (activation code) for the game will most likely have been used, so you will still have to buy a licence from Origin. Just wait for GotY edition and buy a new copy, and avoid messing around with anything pre-owned on PC.

As other have said, you can buy the discs, but if the seller has activated DAI on their origin account........you wont be able to play it.

When it comes to PC games......pre-owned isnt really a thing anymore as the whole PC game culture is pretty much digital now compared to console games, but the plus side is we get games cheaper and have better sales.

GOTY is probably for the best. It has all the DLC content anyway. Buying pre-owned is just going to lead to more hassle.
