You have one in your inventory, but it won't show in cutscenes.

Yea but we're not even allowed to equip it inside the ball
I know. It ruins the whole idea. Let's wear a mask to kill behind the scenes, then go and dance and look totally like the foreigners we're called. ![]()

Not seeing the advisers or companions in masks (especially Vivienne and Leliana) is a little immersion-breaking.
Why is Vivienne wearing that silly soldier outfit, and without a mask?!

Because it would have been too cool.

I believe that not wearing masks shows that we have attended the ball on Inquisition business and as agents of the Inquisition with peacekeeping mission.

The lack of having any options as to what to wear there is annoying, but yes, it's downright stupid not to be able to wear a mask, especially when the game gives you one! You can't equip it because your inventory is locked out, and it doesn't appear in cutscenes anyway (which I think is stupid in itself. You should have the option to see headgear in cutscenes if you wish). The problem would have at least been partially solved if it actually equipped the mask instead of just putting it in your (locked) inventory. That way, you could choose to see it or not by toggling "Hide Helmet". But nooooooooooooooo

Going barefaced is supposed to symbolise honesty and the 'real' you so I can see why the Inquisition would want to go that route. The Chantry idea of being so above all this **** might have been useful too.

It's definitely a shame. Though I'm more sad that we didn't have some minor quests leading up to it wherre Vivienne takes you to her tailor. ![]()
I would've loved to see the outfits the companions/advisors chose for themselves.

While I agree, there are also probably gamey reasons for it as well. I'm willing to bet that more players would be unhappy if they (and party) had been forced to wear masks than would have been happy with it. There is also the issue with cutscenes and looking at a character's face, and the dreaded clipping. Even in the game normally our helmets disappear during cutscenes, so we wouldn't have been wearing the mask anyway except while running around, and then what is the point if it's not seen during say, the Inquisitor introduction or the dance?
That said, they should have made more of your explanation, particularly since you only get the full story on masks if you bring Vivienne along and ask about it.

Qunari can't wear masks (or helmets). And if one race cannot wear masks, then no one shall.

Creatively one could fasten a mask to the horns!

The only reasoning I can come up with for why we don't wear a mask is because the Inquisition is attending this ball and presenting itself as a single entity. This is why your party members are all decked out in inquisition uniform, no masks to hide behind, only one face to show.
It's a load of crap though. There could've been amazing character specific clothing done like they did for Morrigan. I was disappointed in the Disney prince outfit for EVERYONE in your party. Vivienne would not be caught dead in that! Also I can't at that ridiculous pleather epaulette! Where's the fringe?? SMH

That would be a pretty silly idea though, considering you know there are assassins there. It's also pretty stupid not to wear formal armour like Cassandra suggested.

That's great and all, but choice and roleplaying are the issue here. Heck, I probably wouldn't wear the mask anyway, but it should be up to each Inquisitor to wear one or not, and if they had diverted more resources to outfits there, what your Inquisition wears. We should have at least been able to change the outfit colour... ![]()

Omg it felt as if Vivienne just had no connection to the court at all or Céline. Like wtf first she wouldn't wear that mess. Second she just had no interaction with the court what's so ever like really.

The first time I brought Viv with me I was shocked. She would never in a million years wear that stupid solider outfit. I expected her to look like how we met her complete with mask. It was bad enough that my Inquisitor had to wear that outfit but putting Viv in it is horrifying

Viv is part of the Inquisition. She joined them so she will wear their uniform. She's still playing the game of course, but her mask for the moment is the Inquisition outfit.

No more silly than all the other nobles who wear pretty dresses whilst there are Bards everywhere waiting to kill them! It doesn't make a lot of sense, but it's the Orlesian way!
I think turning up in armour would just be seen as a sign of weakness by all the nobles... Gotta keep up appearances!

Not sorry at all to be without a mask - they were ridiculous looking and silly. However, I was wishing for formal wear that was a bit more feminine. I really disliked the default formal wear. I'm not that excited about the new formal wear either. But those masks....yikes

Because it doesn't go with your outfit. You know why it doesn't go with your outfit? Because your outfit looks bad and you should feel bad
Being Canadian, I felt like a freakin RCMP officer walking in there at the Winter Palace. Wish we had better outfits. And I would've loved the chance to wear a mask. It would've been sexy.
