I just installed the collector's edition of  Mass Effect 2, but i thought before i started i would finish up my Mass Effect 1 character. Unfortunately when I run Mass Effect 1 now it gives me an error saying "Failed to find default engine .ini file to retrieve My Documents subdirectory to use. Force quitting."

All the help websites I could find on google were either with steam (which i don't use) or from pirate website (and i have both Mass Effect 1 and 2 retail versions).

anyone know how to fix such a problem?

fixed, just installed and reinstalled while preserving the save files

can you be more specific buddy ... i think you missunderstood me first it's all baout ME1 and not ME2 and second it's all about how to start the game not how to UNINSTALL the game

Uninstall using the above method but when asked if you want to retain your save games etc say yes.

Then...reinstall

am sorry dude .. what method do you mean !!



when i unistalled the game from control panel it only asked me if i want to remove mass effect from my pc or not ... it didnt ask me anything about save game files or anything !!
