I'm not sure when this started, as I don't always check my frame rate, but I've noticed recently that some areas of the game seem to be capped at 30fps. At first I thought it was just JoH, but then I noticed the same thing happening in Storm Coast, and I definitely used to get my usual 40-60fps there! Has anyone else encountered this?
Suddenly seeing frame rate caps

I don't have Trespasser, just JoH and Descent. I'm not sure if it has anything to do with any of the DLCs anyway, or just a patch or whatever. But it's not just a frame rate drop, it seems to actually be capped at 30fps in some areas now - it's rather suspicious that it never goes above that mark, not even briefly...

As far as I know, only cutscenes are 30fps capped, the rest of the game isn't capped unless you have V-Sync active.
Another possibility if you have NVIDIA is that you have V-Sync enabled in your NVIDIA Control Panel, that means you will have 60fps cap if your fps are >=60 or 30fps cap if you have >=30 and <60 fps. Select Adaptable V-Sync in order to remove the 30fps cap.
AMD should have the same V-Sync configuration, but I don't know since I don't have AMD.
It is true that performance has been affected since certain patch (or NVIDIA driver update), I used to have 74 avg fps and now I have only 58. At least that is what the benchmark tool says.

Ah, that sounds like a promising thing to check. I have AMD, so I will have to see if there's an equivalent setting, but I did just upgrade to Windows 10 (which automatically updated my driver), so it's possible that there are some settings I am not aware of.
I think you might be on to something, as I believe I'm only seeing this new "cap" in areas that are known to be more resource-intensive (rainy Storm Coast and Fallow Mire, for example), so if there is a new setting in play then it could now be capping me in those cases.
I'll let you know what I find, this has been bugging me for days...

Yeah, I think either Patch 10 or a driver update did something since I downloaded those around the same I I installed the DLC. I might try rolling the driver back to see if it helps.

I noticed a slight drop with the latest driver 355.98 which I installed a few days ago.

Well I was able to check last night, but I couldn't see an equivalent setting in AMD's Catalyst Control Panel; nothing that was activated, anyway. So I am still at a loss... I guess I must be in the extreme minority of people encountering this issue, as I can't find any information about it ![]()

There's no cap, but I also have a strong feeling that the overall framerate had dropped compared to the original game. It had more crashes and that SLI flickering, but it used to be 45-50 on 'high' tex\meshes with the mix of 'mediums' where now it gives <40.
I can't say anything about the reasons, though. I have returned to DAI after a long while, and it was patch 10. Could have happened earlier, while I was not playing.
I'm on NVidia 2x650M SLI, win 8, driver 355.60.

Yesterday I was testing some configurations and disabling V-Sync in Display configuration gave me an average of 64fps instead of 58. Two possibilities here: either the benchmark tool doesn't disable V-Sync since certain patch or DAI V-Sync is buggy. So I will recommend disabling V-Sync in DAI as it should fix your problem because it will no longer cap fps (except for cutscenes).
Apparently, AMD has a different app for that kind of features: Radeon Pro. The equivalent to NVIDIA's is Dynamic V-Sync Control.
Hope that help.

Awesome, thanks for the info! Hopefully I'll have time to take a look at some of this today
