That makes no sense, since you can remove her from the possibility of being Divine if you don't recruit her.
But she's kill-proof and dismiss-proof so that people like me always have her as an option. Not that I would ever do either of those things.
You should be happy that she essentially doesn't have to exist in your playthroughs.
As an aside, I find it amusing that the odds are stacked in Vivienne's favor in regards to the game mechanics around the Divine election. It's as if fate is leading her to the sun burst throne to inject a bit of Haute Couture into the Chantry, and Thedas at large.

But you wouldn't kill her or dismiss her either way, so not having that option doesn't benefit you in any way.

I need her around for part of the Sera romance, unfortunately, on my qunari playthrough. Though I suppose I no longer have to recruit her just to get the Enchanter's Seat.

What?
I had heard of this, but I don't know specifics.

Yea you have to talk to her for one specific part or else the romance can't proceed beyond a specific part. Viv and Sera actually get along pretty well ![]()

"Why the **** you lyin. Why you always lyin."

So she's a matchmaker too, then.
Has she no limits to her fabulosity?

Well, it's not need per se, but you do miss out on one rather fun scene if Vivienne isn't around.

No, Arlee is mistaken. She just accidentally suggests a decent gift idea for Sera while attempting to tell the Inquisitor to **** off.
Part of this is unquestionably deliberate on the dev's part- Vivienne's greatest fear being irrelevance, her effective ousting from the imperial court by Morrigan becoming Court Enchanter- but it's still rather remarkable how little her influence contributes to the Inquisition when it really should. When practical nobodies like Sera and Black Wall get mission chains which give beneficial influence to the Inquisition and tie to their quests- the Red Jenny quest chain, using the Warden name through Blackwall- it's bizar that Vivienne, leader of the Loyalist Mages and master of the game, doesn't get something similar.
I thought there was a set of war table missions for Vivienne. They have her tarot card art on them, anyway. I think its the Truth or Dare stuff?
And you wanting it to be an abuse, doesnt means it is.Just because it's not illegal doesn't mean that's not abusive.
If you allied with the mages, she murders as many as she can and leashes the rest.

I need to go look this scene up.
*snip everything Xil has said regarding Vivienne in this thread*
I get the distinct impression Vivienne could give her life to save the world and/or the Inquisitor and you'd say she did it purely for the fabulous marble monuments she'd get post-mortem.

She literally ends that conversation with "How nice for you, dear. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm busy doing anything else."

I didn't mean the Sera thing, specifically. It was just the latest post you'd made and easiest to quote. I edited my post. ![]()

Vivienne's a professional liar and manipulator. I'm not entirely sure when I'm supposed to trust her, if ever.

I understand that is your opinion of her. Its not really what I am referring to, though. I am responding to the several instances where people have pointed out things that could legitimately be interpreted as Vivienne being less heartless than she seems and you keep replying with things like "that doesn't compute. she's still scum" etc. It really does read like, no matter what she does, you wouldn't be able to accept she's not simply a cold-hearted ***** b/c that's simply not your view of her. And all evidence to the contrary is classified as "being odd" or "a writing inconsistency" when, honestly, it might just be that the instances seem basically OOC to you b/c you aren't taking all of her character into account. You're focused on the bad conclusions you've come to and refusing to re-assess.
And yet, unlike some other companions, she never lies to or manipulates the Inquisitor ever.
The worst she does is rearrange your furniture or, arguably, snipe the Divine Election if you wanted Cassandra or Leliana.

Oh the horror! Muh furniture!
To be fair, if anyone that hates Vivienne and didn't want her to be Divine yet still got her as Divine, is in denial or dislikes Vivienne for silly reasons, because only your actions/decisions can make or break the Divine decision. Choosing actions/decisions that align with Vivienne's views get her on the Sunburst throne.
Yep.
Also most of the decisions that get Vivi on the throne get Cass on the throne. So if you get Vivi instead of Cass you only have yourself to blame.
And yet, unlike some other companions, she never lies to or manipulates the Inquisitor ever.
Oh, please. She's blatantly fishing for an endorsement for her as Divine at one point. I have done all of Vivienne's high-approval things.

That's not an opinion, it's a fact; she's a master of the Game, and has to be such. But you're right in that I've probably gone too far; one can be evil and capable of developing personal attachments still.
And yet, unlike some other companions, she never lies to or manipulates the Inquisitor ever.
What? The very first thing she does is "diffuse" a "dangerous" situation that she herself arranged in order to provide herself with a grand entrance. That's grade one manipulation right there.
