DAI is far from perfect but I do believe the running around for mosaic tiles and shards, which are the most MMO-esque elements of the game, have got to be the most tedious *** there is to do in Southern Thedas. How many of you fine people go through with this drudgery?

Considering the reward at the end of said drudgery, its worth it, but I always have to Cheat Engine a few shards because I cannot for the life of me figure out how to get one in the Hinterlands near the Bear Caves.

You mean above the cave where the rift is? You have to go all the way to the Villa and follow a ridge along the boundary wall back to the cave roof.Considering the reward at the end of said drudgery, its worth it, but I always have to Cheat Engine a few shards because I cannot for the life of me figure out how to get one in the Hinterlands near the Bear Caves.
Mosaics: only by accident.DAI is far from perfect but I do believe the running around for mosaic tiles and shards, which are the most MMO-esque elements of the game, have got to be the most tedious shiite there is to do in Southern Thedas. How many of you fine people go through with this drudgery?
Shards: did all of them first playthrough just to see what the final reward was -- generally agreed to be not worth the effort. Since then, only when I needed specific resistances for a specific battle, like just before Kill Corypheus I did the whole Spirit series. Some good loot is in those high tier chests, that made it kind of worth it. I only needed all of the shards from Forbidden Oasis, Hinterlands and just one from Storm Coast.

Unlocked all frost doors once, not really that much worth it unless you play on Nightmare, where it's at least a little more useful. Higher level is better than those resistances though.
I won't go and collect all shards. I don't see the point; It's not fun, it takes hours and the reward is not that useful.

You do get some T3 Masterwork Schems from the Pride Room, but if you're after that -- honestly, Cheat Engine is the easy way to do that.

Most of the shards and mosaics are in places you pass by anyway while doing quests, so you might as well pick them up.

I'm somewhat of a completionist and don't see what's so tedious about getting those things, so I always collect them in every single playthrough. 90% of shards are extremely easy to get and I don't mind doing jumping puzzles for the rest. I loved that stuff in GW2 and I have nothing against it in DA:I, eventhough the physics are kinda wonky and frustrating sometimes (e.g. jumping against a ledge and being thrown 2m back as a result).

Now I only pick up mosaics when I trip over them and I completely ignore the shards (and the Forbidden Oasis, for that matter). That alone makes a lot of difference to the 'grindy' feel of the game.
My first playthrough was pretty completionist, but even then I was sick of those damn shards by 3/4 of the way through the game.

I do them all every game. It's nice that they've finally fixed all of the buggy issues with the mosaic tiles.

Having never found them all in a PT, what are the rewards?

Which? Shards or mosaics?
Each full mosaic set nets you a codex entry (and xp/influence). Shards give you elemental resistances (fire/ice/spirit and lightning for the inner sanctum). You also get loot from every temple section.

Most of my playthroughs are completionist, so I collect them regulary. I know their locations so well by now, i would feel strange not picking them up.

I meant shards lol sorry.
Is there a boss fight at the final room?

I wouldn't call it a boss fight. It has a pride demon and a few undead. You get a nice dagger and vitaar and 20% lightning resistance.
Also a Superb Belt of Elemental Resist for each door, I believe. These together allow for 50% resistance to that element; more than a nice find if one is starting to go Dragon hunting.

Yes. You can get each type of Superb elemental resistance belts.
Eh, there used to be Amulet of Power for Quizzy in cold chamber as well >.>

Or Kill Corypheus (spirit - end game) or JoH (cold).

I actually like shard hunting.
I'm a completionist, I cannot not collect all of them on every playthrough.
Plus, it gives me a nice excuse to spend more time in all of those awesome worldspaces.

I enjoy shard hunting now that I know how to reach all of them. I make sure to get them all in all of my games. But for the mosaics, I pick up all that I see but I've never tried to hunt down every last one of them since a few are glitch-y (or they used to be...not sure if those have been fixed).
With the shards, as soon as I have enough to open a new door, I fast travel to do so. Might as well have as many of the buffs as I can, as early as possible, in the game.

The mosaics are fixed. You can now get all sixty pieces.

I pick up every shard and complete every mosaic. I can't leave an area unless I've done every last thing there is to do in the area. It's just one of those things.

Ok, now I have no excuse for not getting them all. ![]()
