Yes, I'm being serious. After playing MGSV, I have determined that Dog companions can actually be awesome (unlike that horrible piece of trash called Ghosts). D-Dog has to be one of the most useful and awesome companions I've ever had in a video game.

Bioware, if you could give us a dog for a squadmate, that would be awesome. I mean just watch this guy in action!

What use would a dog be in a gun fight?

Watch the video. He can also sniff out enemies and loot, just like in MGS

I'm sure if female's can have their eyes and skin exposed in space, then we can have a dog in space :P

And yes, I want a dog squad mate to do crap like that

Watch the video.

There is no stealth combat in Mass Effect. That video means nothing in the context of a Mass Effect game. It's also silly.

Two gameplay elements not present in Mass Effect.

Really? No loot in Mass Effect? And you can use D-Dog outside of stealth.

How is it silly? Are you trying to imply Mass Effect doesnt do silly crap?

I loathe games that try to bring in some dog companion dynamic.  From fable to some call of duty I played it always sucks.  It will make what could be a decent game a sucky game.

If the dog can pinpoint loot, and enemy types before contact then yes.

D-Dog is a bro though. Bore the brunt of a charging 1 ton Himalayan brown bear's surprise t-bag that was meant for me.

I saw the thread title and did want to pop in to say that I've been playing MGS5 and really like how useful DD has been. Regardless of how over-the-top MGS can be, in terms of being an effective and useful companion, D-Dog is actually a good example of how to create an AI squadmate that isn't as dumb as a rock and will effectively follow directions. I've actually found him to be more useful than pretty much all of my squaddies in the ME games were.

D-Dog is an exception. One of the best AI companions I've had in a game. The dog in ghosts was utter trash

I think the Fenris mechs and Varren were the closest we'll ever get to having dogs in ME.

Still want a Varren for a pet in ME...

If we need to have a NPC companion, I want back the Drone from the DLC Citadel. This was some hilarious moments...

But, no, the ME series is more about exploration and shootout. Not a lot of stealthy stuff. Only the Varren is hardboiled enough to be a valable NPC on the various and hostile maps. With the firepower avaible in the ME futuristic world, an unarmored pet has as much lifespan than a squid in a nuclear reactor.

If there's an animal squadmate in Andromeda, it shouldn't be a dog per se. It should be ferocious-yet-adorable alien creature that behaves like a dog. And not necessarily a varren, either. I'm thinking some lifeform we haven't seen yet. Perhaps something native to the Andromeda galaxy that our Pathfinder discovers and "recruits" early on.

Let's called it "Xeno-Pooch".

Just like your humanoid companions, Xeno-Pooch would show up in different areas of your ship, causing all kinds of mischief, as you progress through the game.

You might find it begging the cook for food, drooling all over your bedsheets, or having a growling contest with your resident krogan (a la Sten vs. Dog).

And it'd make sense if Xeno-Pooch has natural body armour or can be equipped with a hi-tech battle harness that helps it withstand gunfire in a fight.

Having a dog companion that could shoot rockets and blow **** up like "Shadow" from the Centurions would be rad.

Filthy silly fleabags that salivate all over the place. Why would people want these?

I wouldn't use it. Most people draw a line in the sand somewhere when it comes to video game violence, and as I see it putting dogs in harms way crosses that line.
