I cannot think of any other reason.
Was the Golden Nug implemented because BW realised how much the grinding and fetching sucked?

I think it was a response to the demanded NG+ feature, yes.
And considering the circumstances & past, I think it was a rather elegant solution. As you can see with the pyjamas, that game is clearly based on one hell of a code.
We can only hope that they apply a little more foresight in the early stages of the next game, as they must have some experience with Frostbite by now.

I was about to suggest that it was likely the same reason as the Black Emporium: because the NG+ feature were requested and it was something that they could implement given everything.
I believe they've looked into quite a few of the requests even facial codes but it was not all of them that they were able to implement for one reason or another. I think the facial code request was because of technical reasons.

I cannot think of any other reason.
Neither can I. And it's a good reason, isn't it? I don't know how much effort this was to implement, but considering how much this is likely to increase the enjoyment of repeated playthroughs it's absolutely worth it.

This. I certainly do hope that Bioware stops conveniently forgetting that "choice" is something that they frequently claim to offer us, but then we end up with only a single weird pajama garment to wear while spending a considerable amount of time back at our home base? Not a choice at all, and something that should have been fixed far earlier than it was (still much appreciated).
In fact many of the new features that were added in the last patch and/or were attached to Trespasser should be given some consideration for early inclusion in DA4!! Plus the tinting table, and item storage, and the Mirror of Transformation (or something similar in the general area of Tevinter).

Whatever the reason, it's a godsend. Players who want all the schematics are going to get them, and this way, it saves a lot of un-fun grinding. It's nice to be able to just play the game without having to farm endlessly.

Trespasser and the current patch state feels indeed more like a "definite edition" of the game as an entirety.
I don't follow too many games' life cycle as closely those days, so I have no idea whether that's normal or not; but to me peculiarly, each patch not only fixed bugs but also added whole new features that just improve the game according to popular criticism.
I hope we have set the tracks for this next gen chapter of the franchise and the possiblities therein by now, so that the next game will originally release in a more polished state - at the very least when it comes to features deemed necessary.
To be fair however, also the community for realizing what they really want. And what not. *cough* I'm looking at you, allegdly insane budget spent on silly Skyhold customization *cough*

What the Trials, Golden Nug, Active ability options, and even the new Wardrobe have allowed me to do is increase the replay value, and allow me to better tailor the experience to each new character.

If I could ask for one last feature for DAI it would be an expansion of the tinter to allow us to pick which model our armor pieces use too. But the Golden Nug was indeed a welcome addition to be sure.

In retrospect the only thing about the games original customization options that still rankles me is the limited degree of variation in hair styles? I hope that they expand hairstyle options much more in the next game.
Skyhold was such a cool home base that I wonder what our next locale will be like too!

I would like to be able to tint weapons too.
Yes, that would have been nice. Complicated, in the case of weapons with upgrade slots, but nice.

What does the golden nug actually carry over? Is it useful stuff like schematics? I haven't started a new game since using it.

All schematics of Tier 2 and above, all the cosmetic Skyhold upgrades like thrones and beds and draperies, and the nursery seeds.

So basically all of the good ones. That's great. I might actually be able to play an elf now.

You know, I never realized how much time I actually spent farming schematics before. Prior to the Golden Nug, a typical playthrough without DLC was ~160 hours. I just finished my first playthrough begun after the Golden Nug was released, and I clocked 157 hours *with* JoH, Descent, and Trespasser included. And I spent over two hours wandering around the Hissing Wastes trying to get Dorian and Bull to hook up. It's pretty sad to think that I was spending 15-20 hours farming schematics.
I do every single quest, pick up every single shard, and do all the collections. Before I leave each area for the last time, I go through and make sure I have all the codex entries for that area and that I didn't miss anything. I can't help it.

I've never used it, what does it actually do? You click it and then can grab that awesome bow for Sera that you had for your Dwarf archer last pt?

No because it does nothing to solve those issues. In fact it might make the 'grinding and fetching' worse especially early game considering you now have much higher quality armors to worry about gathering materials or. It does not transfer over money or any of the other mats. So you literally have to spend more of the early game to gather the supplies you want and then you need to keep crating the same armor over and over again if you want good results.
I think the trials may've been more the answer to this.

I never even come close to that number. Maybe this is the reason I do not get a lot of the banter.
But seriously my longest playthrough in the game is short of 130 hours with all DLC.

I would be glad to know this as well. I clicked on it with one character but I don't see anything new in my other PTs. Do I click with the character that I want the schematics, etc., to be available as well? Thanks ![]()

Whatever the reason, this is a great addition. Being able to deck out my warrior in the Helm of the Inquisitor right after getting to Haven is amazing.
You know for my Golden Nug playthrough when I get to it (if) I doubt I will deck her out in any of the Inquisitor stuff until after I get to Skyhold. Considering they aren't the Inquisitor yet. And may not be buying into the whole Inquisition thing at that point.

I like starting a new game off with all of my schematics from previous games. Just wished it included crafting materials than I can make my OP equipment right from the start.
