I just unlocked this gun, is it worth it.
I may just need to LTP or whatever but it took a lot of shooting to kill something. Are there tactics or setups to make it a decent gun? Infinite ammo is cool, but I'm not sure its worth it.

Yes it is worth it. Put cryo ammo on it and it becomes a freeze ray. Works better as you level it up with bigger mag.
It's the assault rifle with the highest dps in the game iirc, but you need to take into account its ramp-up mechanism to use it optimally. During the first 2 seconds of shooting, the gun does the same damage as an Avenger, but after that, the damage is multiplied by 4 and so becomes very high. It's a very effective boss-killer, with perfect accuracy (but limited range, weirdly).
It shines particularly on the Destroyer, because of his mag size bonus with Devastator Mode (thus you can spend more time shooting the gun while it's in hot mode) and his stagger immunity (your shooting isn't interrupted and so the ramp-up not reset). At level 10, it can one-clip kill platinum Atlases.
yep weird weapon, but need some space magic
put SMG HVB + fire ammo and...
Okay so I need to LTP. I'll try to use it a few more times to get the feel for how it works. At least once my internet stops sucking.
Ah so here's my L2P PPR guide for those new to it:
1) It's a ramp up weapon so the beam becomes more powerful as you fire it. I think it's 4x as powerful on high beam as when you first start firing it.
2)Like anything else that's high ROF, low damage per shot, you need piercing to make it work. I personally recommend the extended mag, heavy piercing barrel and incendiary rounds for max damage.
3)There's kind of a sound that alerts you when your mag is almost depleted. To avoid a long reloading animation get used to the feel/sound of the weapon where you can cut off firing before it overheats.
4)It's much better with leveling. PPR more than any other weapon is effected by leveling.
5)Fire a little differently than some other weapons. Transition from enemy to enemy without stopping firing.
6)Certain powers skip the reload animation of the PPR. Toggling on Devastator Mode, marksman, and I believe but can't remember for sure adrenaline rush also.
EM+EB+AP is pretty good.
EM+ Piercing or HVB w/ IA or Warp is also good. Piercing v HVB will depend on if the class can tolerate the cooldown penalty.
Easily the best AR in the game, and stylish and fun too. Crazy effective on the Destroyer, but I enjoy it more on the Prollector. Use Warp Ammo and shoot biotically primed targets for a big damage bonus.
put it on the human soldier or GI
They say it's a good AR, but I don't really consider it good. The damage before ramp up is really miserable and I prefer my stuff to kick ass from the get go. I suggest to put on decent level ammo and never go without AP effect.

It has very good DPS but I find it to be one of the most boring guns to use in the entire game and never really liked it (for multitude of reasons).
Destroyer, GT and GI are good choices (like most weapons) with EM/EB/AP ammo. Incendiary ammo is good for glitching and DoT. I guess you could use it on characters with DC/Reave/Warp with warp ammo for damage boost. Like other infinite ammo weapons, you need to be mindful of overheating.
This. You can "1 clip" plat praetorians with it under the right conditions.
Also, though it might sound good in theory, DO NOT use it with marksman...
Opinions vary on that.
I like it on the huntress, with warp ammo. Throw dc, follow the dc from target to target for dmg bonus with the warp ammo. Detonate dc with warp when you wait for the ppr to regen. If you fk up and overheat in a situasion where you didn`t want to, use a thermal pack to start regen instant
Ah so here's my L2P PPR guide for those new to it:
...extended mag, ....
This attachment is critical. Lets you fire at max damage for longer. Reduces the likelihood of exhausting the mag and triggering the reload venting. Recharges your mag faster.
Regarding recharge. The PPR recharge rate is constant only as a percentage of the magazine, regardless of whether the total size is 115 or 215 shots. The more shots you have, the faster the recharge is in shots/second.
If I recall correctly, marksman kits don't get much out of the PPR due to framerate quirks. You never get the full benefit of the fire rate boost because the PPR is already pushing the limits of the game engine. Though above nuctech suggests otherwise so maybe there's more to it than I remember.
Do not use the PPR or the CSR on drell. The beam weapons cause a bizarre PoV shift when drell use them.
Not sure if anyone mentioned this already, but the PPR does the most damage when it's fully ramped up. Holding the button down for as long as possible is the best way to use it. In contrast, the CSR and CSMG don't ramp up and so burst fire is better because releasing the trigger engages the recharge mechanic.
Ignore the beam animation and rely on your targetting reticule when aiming. The PPR's accuracy is perfect but the beam will trick you. The beam lies.
Yes. I have tried it on the Justicar and hated it. It was ok on Huntress, that is partly due to difference in DC hopping and weight insensitivity.
Drell of course are the best PPR platforms especially if you've decided to play effect after dropping acid.

Yeah, do that and make sure to run AM3 w/ GS.
Fixed-mag weapons like the PPR improve more than other weapons with increased levels, because their clip size increases along with their damage. The PPR is better than some weapons (e.g., the CSR is terrible at low levels), but it really starts to shine after you have leveled it up a little.
This is my favorite PPR setup: Krogan Shaman. You can use pretty much any ammo you want, but I have found Warp or Incendiary to be most effective. With Warp Ammo, you can even take the 25% damage barrel and do without piercing. The armor weakening from Warp + Warp Ammo pretty much eliminates armor DR.
Krogan have pretty good stagger resistance, which helps with this weapon. Also, quick shield recharge means that any time you're taking cover to recharge your weapon, your shields are going to recharge completely. The only downside is that you're a Krogan that isn't really that good at melee, which makes me sad.
It gives a new meaning to "hipfiring".Yeah, do that and make sure to run AM3 w/ GS.
Opinions vary on that.
I've seen TGIs absolutely wreck plat with this thing when using HVB + incendiary (and obviously extended mag).
