Can you import Dragon Age Keep *later* ?

See, I wanted to make a character in Dragon Age Inquisition but I keep getting the question "Do you want to import from Dragon Age Keep?", which makes me feel uneasy. I haven't finished my character on Dragon Age Origins and I need to replay Dragon Age 2 because of a broken disc.

I know that you can customize whatever in Keep, but I'd rather not and just play it and have it "properly" done. I also know I can just, you know, finish playing those games, haha.  But it's time-consuming and I just want to try out DAI for a little while.

Either way, my real question is; can I play a character without importing from Keep, but when I make a new character, (assuming I have played DAO & DA2 by then), can I then import it? Is will the 'no' be a permanent no?

Thanks!

Also, I'm sorry if I'm confusing or in the wrong thread or if it's already been answered once. I'm new and... very confused. Sweats.

You can have multiple world states in the Keep and you can use them for different characters. So to answer your question: yes.

What you CANNOT do is change your Keep mid-playthrough and expect the changes to show up. For example:

I start a DAI character named Bob. In the world state I imported from the Keep, I skipped the Dark Ritual and made Alistair kill the Archdemon. I cannot go to the Keep halfway through Bob's story and change the Keep so that Alistair did the Dark Ritual.

Thanks. That was very helpful!

Does that also mean that if I just  play without importing at all it'll just play as default on that one character? Or can I use another character's Keep (from DAO, that is currently unfinised) and play it as it is, although I know that my current character on DAI will not experience any changes that I later make on it, any new character I make will?

Sorry if my questions are confusing, aaa.

Yes.  If you do not import, you play with the Default.

Also, Usage of the Keep does NOT require having played either previous Dragon Age game.

Can I play a character without importing from Keep?
Yes. The game has a built-in default world state that will be used instead.

When I make a new character, (assuming I have played DAO & DA2 by then), can I then import it?
You will be able to use that Keep world state on a new DAI character.

What you can NOT do is make a DAI character using the default world state, play the game, and then import Keep info later on. Every time you create a new character all of that information is "baked in" to the save file, so it is fixed.

Does that also mean that if I just play without importing at all it'll just play as default on that one character?
Yes.

Or can I use another character's Keep (from DAO, that is currently unfinised) and play it as it is, although I know that my current character on DAI will not experience any changes that I later make on it, any new character I make will?
You can use another character's Keep world state for import into DAI. BUT the Keep info is usually based around a default Keep world state as well, so if you don't have complete DAO information loaded, it will substitute its own default stuff.

Here is an example of the above. Let's say that in your DAO play you have completed Ostagar, Lothering, and the Circle Tower chapters of the game, but that's it. You fill in that information, but the stuff regarding Orzammar, the elves, Denerim, and the end of the game remains with the default settings. When you first load up the Keep the default world state is what you initially edit, there aren't "blank" tiles. Also, the default Keep choice is the Warden Ultimate Sacrifice, so you might want to change that if that's not what you're planning on doing.

I know you don't want to do this, but If you have already played through DAO and DA2 and know the choices you want to make, I really do strongly suggest that you just go ahead and make the complete world state for your DAI play if you really want to play DAI now and don't want to wait.

Or you could just go with the default world state for DAI, get your fix because you really want to play it, and then return to DAO/2 later on and finish those out. Don't forget that DAI has a feature that automatically uploads information to the Keep if you're logged in. You can disable that in the account options if you don't want your world state to be affected. However, DAI's Keep info is also unique in that tiles are hidden by default (visible as an option) if you have not unlocked them with actual DAI gameplay, such as recruiting or romancing a specific person and whatnot.

There is a randomise option in the keep if you don't know what to choose and want to create a worldstate

You're gonna have to recreate your choices in the Keep anyway, as it only imports your characters from DAO and DA2, not the actual choices you made. So, assuming you already know what those choices are going to be, why not create and import the world state now, start playing and treat your (eventual) playthroughs of DAO and DA2 as essentially flashbacks? :)

(Also, just to be clear, you get the option to import a Keep world state every time you create a new character in DAI. And in the Keep itself, you can create and save multiple world states, but you can only export one at a time. So if you create one character with world state A, and you want to create another with world state B, you have to go into the Keep and mark world state B for export instead of A.)

This is the most relevant post to this topic, really. There is no save import so there is no way to go "real", no matter if you played DAO and/or DA2, you have to use the Keep anyway. The Keep won't recognize/import to your world state (will import achievements and other useless stuff thou).

While not a true "save import", the Keep does record your choices in the games as associated with the individual characters you created and played.

While one *can* manually edit the Keep to make selections of choices for parts of the games that one has never even seen, I think the OP is saying s/he *doesn't* want to do that. S/he wants to play DAO & DA2 "naturally", but also wants to play DAI now and was concerned about baking-in an "incomplete" World-State for any later DAI playthroughs.

And the bottom line is, "Yes, one can have many different World-States that can range from fully "natural based on in-game choices" to fully default/automatic/random (the YOLO option!). The only caveat is that once imported, that WS is fixed for that DAI play through.

If you really really want to play DAI now you can just ignore the Keep and it will have a Default State.

But the default state has some very boring choices, and though I did it the first time cause I forgot about the Keep, I didn't like playing like that. So then I remade a new game after creating a proper Keep World State with all the proper information. It's a lot better like that and you will enjoy DAI more, also hearing people talk about your previous heroes etc..

If you can be patient, and already completed the previous games, just set up the keep first. You will not regret it. You can play DAO and DA2 after anyway, it's not like it takes anything away if you already know the story. If you haven't already completed them, then either do those first which would make more sense, or play with a Default State but you will hear some spoilers..

Here are the choices of a default state: http://dragonage.wik...ult_World_State As you can see in the default state basically the Hero of Ferelden and Hawke didn't do anything XD
The decision is yours :P
