Having played through Trespasser on release, I was compelled to head back and play through the game with the other DLC added and a Solas romance. Moving along, I thought: "Well, let's try and get that perfect headcanon ending."

So. Quick question! IIRC Dorian/Bull is triggered by banter but are there ways to make banter trigger faster? My party is remarkably quiet considering I've played for about 40 hours. (I thought that bug was resolved quite some time ago.)

Is it triggered by banter? I didn't think it was triggered by anything except: recruit both, romance neither.

I think it's after Dorian's personal quest. Do not romance him or Bull and take them with you on side quests. Eventually they will banter about spending the night together and then you can ask about their relationship back at Skyhold.

Same with Josie and Blackwall. Cole will mention his feelings and Josie will talk of it with the lady in her office if you keep checking in.

I think its triggered by having them in the party together because it didn't happen in my first play through I didn't have them in my party as much really.

It's triggered by hearing their very last banter together, the one that starts with Iron Bull saying: "So, Dorian, about last night". If you're on PC you can use the Cheat Engine to trigger banter whenever you want. If not I'm not sure what you can do except waiting around until banter fires (if you do that the Western Approach is bugged so don't pick that region).

You just have to have them in the party enough for them to start flirting, and then chat them up at Skyhold after it's clear they're sleeping together. And obviously don't romance either of them.

I suggest taking them shard hunting. I had Solas and Bull complete a Chess match during my hunt and that was made up of a lot of separate banter. Amusingly they began the game during the Dead Hand puzzle just before I went after the last shards on the Plains.

^This. Which takes a little while to get to.

It's not necessarily their last banter, though.

Last time, it took hours of wandering around the Hissing Wastes with JUST Dorian and Bull in the party to get their romance banter. Seriously, over two hours of circling the wastes, and they only bantered three times, and two of them weren't "romance path" banters. I thought they'd never hook up.

I really hope they come up with a better way to handle banter next time.

I honestly don't see the bad part about having trigger points like in Origins and 2. Maybe if Bio feels like it's available for abuse they could make a mix and just have one trigger in each area. Then those players that really want all the banters can go there and get them when they like, and the random banter mechanic can work in the background of the larger areas. Assuming the games levels are designed similar to Inquisition.

The way that worked pretty well for me was I took just Dorian and Bull to the Hissing Wastes and stood just outside the first camp. I then turned on that option that lets you hear game sound even when the window is minimized, and just tabbed out and did other stuff while waiting to hear something. It seemed like a banter or comment would happen around every 15 minutes or so. It was tedious, but I got there in the end. It feels like banter triggers a bit more reliably when I'm just standing around for some reason. If I'm running around doing quests a lot of the time I won't hear banter for a good long while.

I read somewhere that having Cole in the party helps... tried that after I seemingly exhausted the whole IB/Dorian dialogue with no one else in the party (over 3 hours of freakin silence!), which was when their romance dialogue finally started.

yay for cole! xD

What if you romanced one and ended? Does that break it?

Been bringing IB, Dorian and Sera on the Exalted Plains and man, what a pain to wait for their banter to fire up. Still waiting, though.

(Does it have to be the first time they enter an area? Or you could just bring any companion to any given area at any given moment and their banter will fire up as well? So far I've been having silent parties T__T or it'll take MUCH longer than 20mins to listen to one)

I believe that Iron Bull's Inq romance is bugged, so even if you break up with him or flirt with him and then turn down sex, the game thinks you're still an item. I would totally avoid flirting with Bull (and Dorian if your character is male, just in case) if you really want Adoribull to happen.

I'm glad I'm not the only person who has wandered the Hissing Wastes muttering 'for Maker's sake, would you two please just !@#$ already?!'

Yep, it really seems like banter system in DAI was failure compared to trigger points of earlier games. There is 6 hours of the banter in the game and I have been gotten like 10 minutes if even that during my playthroughs that it's like this whole huge feature that I love in DA's is missing.

If I did that, I would never get banter at all. It seems as if the only time I get banter is shortly after combat. So I have to wander around looking for stray lurkers/Venatori/RedTemplars.

I took part in the banter testing back in the early days of the game, my sessions had a average of banter every 20 minutes just stading by a camp.

But it was weird, sometimes I would get 3 in a row other times nothing at all for hours.

You are way more dedicated than me and I enjoy circling around in the Hissing Wastes because I think it's pretty.  I think this would put me to sleep!

I guess if you were desperate you could just leave the game running with the two of them in the party, OP? I imagine if you left the entire party standing somewhere safe for ten hours or so overnight would probably do the trick! You'll most probably need more than two.

On a side note, the actual romance banter is really funny. I was running around the storm coast and Dorian was being incredibly chatty in a slightly nervous way - a succession of weak one-liners, something like "brr, bracing wind!" or "wet!" when we went down to the sea. And then Bull starts with the "So, Dorian..." and it was just so great! I love Dorian so much and I felt ridiculously happy for him, I felt so lame and also wonderful

Actually, I think almost all of my Dorian/Bull banter fired in the Frostback Basin, when I headcanoned that Viv, Varric, and Thom left the Inquisition to fulfill their own duties. In the main game I rarely took Bull anywhere, and only had Dorian with him in the Exalted Plains for one part of the quest. They just bickered and talked about bondage, I think. Then the "about last night" banter fired during Descent. Which seems fitting somehow. ... Deep roads.
