A base we can build and defend, like the Caed Nua from Pillars of Eternity or the one similar to Fallout 4 settlements.
What kind of base, stronghold or house would you like to have in DA4?

Given its Tevinter, the roman fantasy counterpart to the roman empire, I'd vote for a villa if in the countryside or a domus if in a city, maybe even both if we can have more than one.

Exactly what a DA game needs to make me hate it. If it is present it needs to be optional. I'm building a story I don't want to play siege, army, war strategy and these ridiculous stuff. RPGs can please everybody if most of the content is optional, but if they put it as part of story or gating good content it completely ruins the game.
When I saw videos of Fallout 4 (I hate the series anyway, and also hate Elder Scrolls), the thing I hated the most was the customization of the base, it made it looks like bases are important, and if the bases are important I can't even play the game to know the story because I hate it.
Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing is releasing a complete edition, the videos said tower defenses sequences are going to be optional, perhaps now I can finish the trilogy. I couldn't even play the second because of this sh*t.
So yeah, they can put stupid stuff, all of it, but completely optional. It is stupid to force players to do things they hate. I liked WEWH but people who dislike the "spy mechanics" of the quest were really in a rage because Bioware is stupid. Quest with different mechanics should NEVER be part of main quest.

Okay, so the next Dragon Age is most probably going to involve Tevinter and the Qunari...
Which means that there's going to be a lot more sea involved next time.
So here's my pipe dream:
Seriously: Crescent Isle is the best RPG base this side of Suikoden: it's a deserted Island which becomes a pirate hideout, which then evolves into a small town as Vyse & co hire more and more crew members to man the Valuan Dreadnought they stoleborrowed.
This is a perfect recipe for a story involving Tevinter & the Qunari: giving the protagonist their own ship justifies their capacity to travel from the Main land to the Qunari archipelago. An upgradable base gives an excuse to have characters who aren't necessarily all trained killer to join the protagonist's side, and instead of Inquisition, where the protagonists (and therefore the players) didn't even know most of their followers who are often away on a mission or manning a distant keep, we get to have most of the crew hanging out together in the base.

A dwarven thaig. Maybe where the roof is partially collapsed so that it's a canyon as well. Which used to be a dragon lair, or a Nevarran dragon-hunter's hideout. I'm hoping for more Nevarra and Free Marches than Tevinter anyway.

Caed Nua was presented as an example because I don't remember any of these kind.
Surely, Caed Nua was atrocious.

Crossroad Keep in NWN2 was pretty good. it ties into the story and you get a cool battle there, but technically upgrading it is optional, just makes the battle harder ![]()

We've had a camp.
We've had a city house which pretended to elegance.
We've had a cool castle.
In DA4, I'd like to have a city house with true elegance for a change. For instance, an Imperial-style atrium house with a formal garden and some fountains and statues, something far from Skyhold's weighty austerity and as far from a camp's simplicity, something sophisticated and luxurious.
What kind of base would you like to have in DA4?
to have a mansion-fort, and it better be more like in DA-Awakening(and Never Winter Nights 2) than useless thing what we have in DAI...skyhold was worst what we have in awakening and nwn 2
my fortress-better buildings, walls, gates and other customizations
my soldiers, my advisors and companions-improvement of armor and weapons and if i side with some faction i must get those units and their representives as companions and advisors....if i side with mages not give me some templar as advisor or companion and it better not have companions and advisors who are forced to us
my rules and judge...my decidions must have a price and not become something like what we have with closing breach

Castles are overrated. I want a hideout. I want V's Shadow Gallery, with a collection of various artifacts and curiosities "liberated" from snooty a-holes that I can mess with and/or kill.
Of course, this relies on having the story take place primarily within a city, but if this is taking place in Tevinter, this shouldn't be difficult to pull off, and frankly I'm kind of done with the woods. I want some Dragon Age urban goodness.
This looks really nice, but I'm fed up with dark rooms. I'd prefer something open to the daylight and windows to a formal garden, but that otherwise retains the style. I wouldn't mind a trophy room downstairs, but it's not where I'd like to live and work.

Another vote for the ship. Give me a nice big galleon, so I can sail around and impose my self righteous liberal views on everyone, except when I deem it necessary to violate other people's rights through the sheer power of my hypocrisy - and gun deck.
It'll probably end up being something truly absurd, like your own pocket dimension in the Fade, or a flying tower of death or something. Or you'll befriend a jolly Gulliver's Travels giant and hang out in his shirt pocket. Something sensible like that.

I'd like a place in the Crossroads.
That would really just allow Solas to shut you out.
If we assume it will be Northern Thedas and a massive war between Qunari and Tevinter is taking place:
A Southern Chantry 'war camp'-like setting, which you can improve as you go. You'll probably play as an agent of Divine Victoria (who ever you picked), so it would make sense theres a Chantry based setup for your home base. You get to explore and take advantage of the war turmoil to spread Chantries influence and fight the enemy

Perhaps one that can be expanded and improved over the entirety of the game; from small hovel to regal estate.
Definitely agree with this
DA could use some proper base building, Skyhold was good but abit too bare bones. Wouldn;t mind if started out small but eventually grew into a large hideout and proper organization for changing Tervinter...or making it worst ![]()
