Why you even play Dragon Age then?
Because they keep writing new characters for me to fall in love with.
I don't want to avoid returning characters because I don't love them anymore. I want to avoid returning characters because I do love them, and I want them to have happy futures, and that isn't going to happen if they keep showing up. I mean look at Alistair. They never stop trying to kill him off, and when they aren't doing that, they're piling on the hurt.
- DAO: You can execute him, and if you do execute him, he stays dead. If you want him to live, you have to either die yourself or persuade him to sleep with a woman he detests. The only way a Warden who is romancing him but who isn't nobility can have a happy ending is to make him cheat on you and keep him as a Grey Warden.
- DAI: Think you got a happy ending out of it? Think again. If you kept Alistair in the Wardens, you now have to choose between killing him or killing your Hawke. Thanks.
So yeah, I don't mind if beloved characters don't return. It's better for their health.

Hawke, yes. Derp!
And Morrigan can be stabbed at the end of Witch Hunt.
("Oh, but she fell backwards into a magical mirror and she's a mage!" Yep, so is Abelas and he was stabbed near a magical well. There are no special cinnamon rolls in this thread, sorry.)

Celene, Gaspard, Briala and Florianne

Florianne is a default death.
I will add Celene and Florianne. I wasn't aware that Gaspard or Briala can die.

Is just a simply stabbed, our grey warden survived of 10 arrows in the knee. And still is an adventurer!

How is Morrigan on here?
Because people think that:
Someone got stabbed and the last we saw her she was alive, but wounded = Someone got stabbed, fell down dead, and people discuss how he's dead while standing over his dead body
I think I missed the hair pulling that would help this thread make sense.
You aren't implying that this thread is anything less than a temper tantrum, are you?

In the DA4 party thread. Some of us were arguing against Abelas and Michel's inclusion as future party members partly on the basis that they could be killed off in Inquisition, but also other reasons.
And no one ever implied that they shouldn't show up at all, in any form.

Interesting, thank you! I assume he attacks you and dies, then?
I don't think he attacks you, actually. I think you just can't bring him to the final battle.

Well, if he didn't die or get murderknifed on screen, or get killed in a book or comic, I'm not going to add him. ![]()

I will say that the fact Alistair could die is a large part of the reason I insisted, for years, that Fiona couldn't be his mother. I figured they had to be setting up a third Therin brother to cover that plotline in case of Alistair's death.

Yeah, I mean, I know they tried, but I really don't think they handled the whole consequences from DAO thing well. Nor after that.
It's like, the people who killed beloved characters off get to have them rubbed in their faces, and the people who didn't kill secondary beloved characters off never get to see them again.
It's a lose/lose situation at this point. Something needs to change.

Something did change with DA:I. They bit off more than they could chew with the branching in DA:O, and realized it when they finally had to resolve the Dark Ritual. So they limited the ways in which characters die off and gave us fewer story branches in DA:I. As much as I like the crazy branching, I'd rather have the story stay coherent as it continues forward, even if it means fewer ways to ice people ![]()

Well...of course they can. It just requires a hand wave for them to make them return without regard for their status as living or dead, or it potentially requires a lot of inconvenience on the developer's part to build them as an optional companion.
Both of these things, hand waves and major inconveniences, are generally something to avoid when writing fiction.

Look, no one has said that any past character that could die should be excluded from future games. We just realize that they can't be party members or important to the plot in a significant way because it would require a much larger budget on Bioware's part. We also know that Bioware doesn't want to resort to another Leliana situation.

Wait, I thought this was a tongue-in-cheek/sarcastic thread. ![]()
I have no problem for any past character returning in the future as long as it fits their character and the location.
Even determinate characters could in theory return as future companions. Bioware have done this before with ME3 (Tali and Garrus).
I reread the OP's list and was amused to find 'Kitty' on the list. ![]()
