I am unable to play Mass Effect 2 due to the fact that I consistently crash after five minutes of playing the game. I'm unsure what's causing my problem, I can
reach further stages of the game if I save every minute and play
through my rather annoying five minute limit, but this is driving me
insane.

1.      OS:      Windows XP SP3



2.      CPU:    AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 6400+ (3.21 GHZ)



3.      RAM:   4 GBs

VIDEO:            NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GT 512 MB (196 latest drivers)



5.      AUDIO:            Sound Blaster Audigy (Latest drivers)



6.      DirectX            9.0c August 2008       (I assume I have the latest drivers, Doesn't Mass Effect 2 update it if it's not?)

3.      Problem Details



a.      When it comes to problem details, think about the five basic questions. Who? What? When? Where?

Why? Okay, so “Who?” doesn’t really apply here, but the others do.

    I play for five minutes, more or less. And at the end of that short time span I crash with a standard "This program has encountered an error and needs to close" error. Does not matter what I am doing. I crash after this given time limit. Otherwise, the game runs smoothly, no sound clipping issues or anything else... What's wrong?

For those who would take the time to help me... I will supply more information about my computer, or about the error on demand. Thank you in advance.
