Would't mind it never really had interest in them to me most the romances were boring IMO, but understand people want this anyways so keep it. Know if they have an interesting options beside just team members to chose from maybe I'll consider it more but to me it isn't the selling point for me /shrugs.

Basically the one and only way that I would accept this is if the character is entirely fixed, and the story just plays out without the player's control beyond the combat stuff. Perhaps not the best example, but I guess Michael in GTA V would fit, like the point in the game where you have to save his family. I thought it was fun and amusing, and Michael being a set character whose morality and priorities I have no real control over makes it acceptable.

I was thinking more of a John Marston from Red Dead Redemption situation. There you not only had a preexisting wife and kid, but an established loyalty and love for them that prevented you from accepting the services of prostitutes in a Rockstar game. And that is a love for the ages.

Although it may have just been that Rockstar couldn't figure out how to let you have sex with the hookers without a car.

I enjoy the romances, and would rather have them than not, but BioWare's primary focus should be telling an interesting and coherent story.

ME3 and DA:I both had story issues. BioWare should get the main plot of Andromeda right before they worry about anything else.

Tell a great main story, with engaging side-quests, that keeps us hooked from start to finish, and good romances will be make it shine all the brighter.

But the best romances in the world won't save a weak story.

Meh, I'd hate having a pre-existing family - even if we get to pick the gender etc. If my character is going to have romantic relationship i want to be able to choose from characters I actually get to know within the game.

As for not having romances at all? I'd really miss them being in the game and I think a pretty big number of fans would.

I could make a long list of story issues with each game's predecessors, especially on the Mass Effect side.

"Sure we could stop, but that would be turning our backs on something we do which almost no-one else does. The question would be: 'why?' And what do we replace it with?"

""Perhaps, if we made a new IP, we might decide it's best not to open that particular Pandora's Box (which, yes, romances have always been) and go with something else... but that 'something else' better be something damned good, as there are a lot of people who enjoy that part of our games immensely and who might not be willing to buy into a new series which didn't have it."

And to quote myself:

"RPG Games with Romances are a market gap .... I don't know a nother game developer working so mutch on romances like Bioware. And Bioware become more and more famous for this .... Why should they be SO stupid and cast away sutch "treasure"?"

Just think about it:

Best selling PC game EVER: http://www.statista....time-worldwide/

And who play this game: http://www.nydailyne...rticle-1.283191

And I claim (just contention):

- Most of the peole writing in a General forum are "young, males".

- Females are MORE interest in romances (in games) than "young, males".

- There are A LOT female Bioware fans out there.

And now look again to my links and tell my WHY should Bioware stop making romances?

Oh, and by the way: I think the "gay gamer" will be more and more important in games. Especially Bioware games have a great "gay" fanbase. ;) And my subjective feeling is: "Gay gamers" love romances, too. Everything I'm writing is very steretype, sorry.  Exceptions are everywhere of course. ;) Don't want to insult somebody.

Romances have always been an option and they're one of the top reasons why fans buy a BioWare game. It's something to look forward to aside from the game itself. If they remove it, they would be met with complaints and that is to be expected. Romances are one of the top reasons why I do buy a BioWare game, and why I continue to play them. Keep romances as an option, but don't take them away.

Exactly this. Without romance option, I probably wouldn't buy the game. And for heaven's sake, no premade family. Just no.

People who play Bioware games solely for the romance...You....do realize that there are thousands of dating sims, and romance focus games right?

I really wouldn't care. I hope to have a turian squadmate you can interact with but i don't necessarily need to pick top left blue options in order to bang him

But in lieu of romances Bioware gave you a backstory that included a husband/wife with a young daughter/son with a half dozen character models for each to choose from.  Fighting the alien savages to make a home for your family.  Could be a nice change from the standard formula which I feel has gotten a bit stale.  Thoughts?  Ways to improve?

No thanks, forcing some bratty kids on me is not the way to get me to play a video game. Also, I'd feel like kind of an ass for taking the alien savages' land from them

People who care about why other people play games... You...do realize that people can play games for whatever reason they want right?

Personally, I enjoy the romance content.  I don't need it, but I'd be disappointed if it were gone.  I'm more open to a new IP without romances than removing them from existing IPs.

I don't think people play BioWare games for romances.  I think people play it for other reasons.  However, nearly every BioWare game has some sort of romance option in it.  It would be weird if BioWare does away with something they've been quite good at.

Personally it's not the "no romance" clause of this that's the sticking point for me.

It's the 'Here's your spouse, here's your kid, they are your driving motivation' thing that would be the deal breaker in the OP's proposal.

I don't just play for the romances, I love the replayability of the games and choice and most of all, the characters, but yes also the romance. I mean if combat was what I liked the most, I would be playing a ton of games but not necessarily Bioware. If the only reason i was into it were the stories, well i love bioware games for the emotions and the twists, and are really fun, but they don't always make sense.

I buy and love Bioware games for the characters. I love RPGs and fictional worlds, but it took me forever to get into Fallout or Skyrim due to the lack of characters to make most of the game matter to me. And part of that is romance.

I do occaisonally play dating sims, but they A) are rarely 3 dimensional characters I can get attached to B) rarely have a lesbian option that isn't porn and C) Aren't as interesting without gameplay.

I have even played a few games that met all above criteria thats not Bioware, but it is rare and takes a ton of searching and are always fairly low budget with less resources to flesh it out. I probably would still buy it without romance but it takes away from the reson i do buy it (interesting emmersive characters)

I guess one important difference is that the romance exists within the context of a greater story. Idgaf if waifu-chan is impressed that my invisible avatar took her to the movies or something, but I do care when the characters express emotions to each other within the framework of a major conflict, sort of like the goodbye scene in ME3, particularly Liara's, which I still like very much.

I have a hard time beleiving anyone plays bioware games FOR their romances.  You like it as a nice side addition sure, go for it.  But FOR it?  You could have a booty call signal on top of the protagonists building that he/she signals the night sky with to summon random sexual conquests and it would have about as much depth as the bioware romances.

No romance? Meh, I wouldn't be bothered by it in the least, it's by far the worst written part of Biowares games. I find it hard to believe that anyone plays Biowares games for the romance, its so insignificant and shallow. They'd have a much more fulfilling experience if they went and played one of the many dating sims out there.

Are there really that many dating sims? Where and what are all these dating sims and what makes people seem so confident that they offer a well written and "fulfilling experience?"

Well its not in scores but I do recall a cute little dating sim where you played as a vampire and could accidentally kill off potential love interests if you fed from them too often. Does that count? Can't remember the name of it though but I think the main character's name was something along the lines of Jenna.
