One of the unexpected pleasures of ME3 for me was multiplayer. I was opposed to it when it was announced and was hesitant to try it because I was afraid my skills would be so poor I'd end up spending my time lying on the ground being teabagged uh, yelled at by elitist preadolescents. Instead I found a great group of Mass Effect fans who not only picked me up when I fell down but who helped me improve my skills immeasurably.

 

The best part of MP by far was the community event, where players of all ages, nationalities and skill levels came together to "get 'er done." I have great memories of being helped by friends and strangers to get my first (and only) 50 melee medal, fully extract in sub 20 min and play Platinum. It makes me a bit sad to know that many BSNers never had the experience of participating in a community event and some (due to lack of confidence, negative preconceptions, or what have you) have never even tried ME3MP.

 

As Andromeda will have a multiplayer component and we won't have any news until N7 day, let's kill the time, hone our skills and get hyped for more Mass Effect together. Several members of the ME3MP forum are participating. Each of us will host MP lobbies as our schedules allow the week leading up to N7 Day, so join us!

 

Types of games we'll be offering:

1) Fun/Intro -- for less experienced players. Learn the ropes in a friendly, low pressure environment.

2) Tourism -- see the altered maps, try being cooked in the reactor, hunt for easter eggs on Vancouver, experience the joy of Collectors, play with a volus squadmate, etc.

3) Up your game/weapon workshop -- get advice from experienced players on different ways to play certain weapons/kits, get to play with other BSNers, try a higher level of difficulty.

4) Themes/challenges -- replay some of the weekend challenges or try themes like an all krogan death squad on Tuchanka.

5) Geek out -- discuss lore with other fans.

 

TL;DR Elcor-style: With utmost sincerity: come play ME3MP with us the first week November.

 

How to participate: Download all 5 of the free multiplayer DLCs (Resurgence, Retaliation, Rebellion, Earth, Reckoning) because you won't be able to play with others unless you have them. Find a participating host that is offering the type of game you'd like to play and send a friend request or reply in this thread. Once accepted, send a message and arrange a match!

I would encourage anyone who is somewhat interested in seeing what ME MPer is like but never tried it to give it a shot through this. What's the worst that can happen? It really is a lot of fun. The MPer community was actually really nice and friendly (largely) despite however they act on the forums.

Yes, we have a reputation for poking the bears on the SP forum with threads like "Biovar, ditch SP, MP 4EVA, GOML L2P N00B" but in reality I've only found a handful of rude or unhelpful people on PC in over 2800 hours of playing. This was my first MP experience playing with strangers (previously played games like Diablo II with my husband) and I was soo intimidated I initially tried soloing bronze because I didn't want to burden anyone with my lack of skill. I died on wave 1 without killing anything. 3 more attempts like that and I said, "heck with it, I'm playing with people who can protect me!"  I spent well over 400 hours on Bronze and never thought I'd move up to harder difficulties but I met people who coached and carried me until I could stand on my own. So MP isn't just for hard core PvP shooter types, it's for everyone. Even people like me who play SP on Normal difficulty and spam the pause button every 3 seconds.

I recently got into the MP side on PC, maybe 100ish hours so far.  And my expereinces have been great.  I am not a MP game person, but the community and fun gameplay has made it a blast. We are years into ME3 and people are still around and people in the game and on the baords have been very friednly and helpful. If you want to run around with another beginner feel free to hit me up.  I'm on origin PC ShinobiKillfist GMT-7(PST). I can't carry a game when things fall apart, but getting stomped doesn't hurt.

For PS3, add me (OniTYME) and I'll invite you to the Alliance Hazard Force chat and we can get some games rolling while also networking with other great players. I've help a fair share improve and learn the mechanics and tricks.

 

 

I too was one of those that weren't too excited about the multiplayer until I saw the possibilities; clans, unique characters, rpg elements, fighting reapers in classic places, et cetera. While what we got was smaller in ambition, I liked it. However due to being so used to ME2's mechanics, I sucked at it because I would tiptoe through matches and camp to defend an area. My first MP game was on the beta as a human soldier on Firebase White, as a total nubstick I stayed in the LZ and got absolutely crushed. Lost interest by the time the full release came out and due to the RGB I greatly lost interest in ME3. There was no light at the end of the proverbial tunnel. So one day, eying my N7 Collector's set with its early stages of dust collection, I got bored and checked BSN's multiplayer section and learned about the Challenges. That's when I tried MP for the first time and I got hooked! There's nothing more rewarding than a commendation pack and I loved that challenge we failed at that gave us our first taste of platinum with Banshees attacking with Geth and Cerberus. I hope to relive these feelings in the future.

About me: I haven't played ME3MP since like July, but I did play it a lot (way too much) before, both on X360 an PC. I can't use but one weapon on PC, which would be the Venom.
