I played through ME1 with a female character.
Started ME2 with imported character, showing all correct details from my ME1 femshep.
I get to the operating table & I'm offered the default male Shepard :o
Aren't I supposed to get a femshep that looks similar to my ME1 shep?

It's not such a big deal, I can construct a similar face, just wondering why this happened.
I can replay the end of ME1 from the autosave that the import uses & it doesn't seem corrupted in any way.

Are you sure you imported the right character?

I had just reinstalled ME1 since swapping to Win 10 & so I only had 1 character.

All of the other carry over decisions have been correct.

Well, it's likely they would have screwed up her appearance. Edit the save file with Gibbed (the ME1 file) and make sure it's saved as Female. Maybe something got messed up. You can also correct some of the decisions there that the game doesn't flag correctly.

Alternatively, you can just go back into Mass Effect 1, get your Shepard's appearance code (which I believe is on the 'Squad' section of the pause menu), write it down somewhere, and then type it into the code line inside the Mass Effect 2 editor. If all goes well, that should basically create your Shepard. I hope this is a feasible fix for you.  :)

Note: I've never actually tried this myself, though I would be dumbfounded if it didn't work.

ME1 doesn't generate a face code, unfortunately, and if you import a character from ME1 to ME2, there is also no face code generated. The only way to get a face code for ME2 is to create a new character.

What I've done, at the suggestion of a few others, is to create a character in ME3 and use the Mass Effect Identity Code Generator to get the right slider values. It works pretty well for ME1, and in ME2 you should only have to make minor tweaks if you paste in the ME3 face code at Character Creation.

Thanks Whitering, but you can't edit a ME1 .MassEffectSave with Gibbed.

Thanks Gonder, but as Monica21 points out, ME1 doesn't have face codes.

Thankyou Monica.
I might try that out.
It would be interesting to see what it comes up with for Ntombizodwa, my latest ME3 character, but I think she might look a little less African.

Wow, she's gorgeous! You might have some luck, I'm not sure. I don't think the skin tone in ME1 goes that dark though.

I used that slider generator to try a recreate this ME3 Shepard in ME2.
Spoiler

But without the ME3 Default Jane hair, she wasn't really recognisable.

My favourite appearance is for my ME1 femshep, she looked okay in ME2, but the changed engine or whatever, I just couldn't get it the same, in ME3 that character import, even with the code, looked like she was falling quickly into the uncanny valley, and I had to reroll. I ended up spending nearly 6 hours on Saturday working on my character's looks. In the end, I used Kelly's face, and glorious hair top, which looks really great as it's kind of messy, but also styled, suitable for a warrior who's been rolling around and being shot at.

No, but you can change it in ME2, all that matters if that you change the appropriate textures.
