I unlocked the Volus Mercenary.  And wow, he's a beast.  Maybe it falls apart on gold+ but he basically has 3 oh **** buttons.  With combat drone and decoy I am not shot at that often and with the shield boost when I am taking a beating I can usually get out of it. Is there a preferred loadout for this guy.  I'm using a tempest as its light and I wanted my powers with low cooldowns and the hurricane is ever elusive.  I went with survivors loadout I think its called +shield regen and + medi-gel.  He was a lot of fun.

Skip passive boost and every volus is a Clutchasaurus rex.

Also all 4 volii kits armed with AP claymores is the best thing ever on platinum.

The Volus Merc is one of my favorite kits, now he's very dependent on a good gun to be effective on platinum, but what's so great about him is his ability to stay undetected and avoid enemy fire through his powers, basically he have the ability to shoot a lot at the enemy while taking very little fire back.

If we talk only about offensive abilities then Deerber is right but I like the idea of a character with only defensive and pets powers. Killing enemies fast is fun but trolling them can be amusing too.

 

 

On topic : this character is a good opportunity to practice with your new PPR OP. The volus merc needs a strong gun and his pets will provide you enough distraction to deal with the ramp-up.

Drone, Decoy and light melee cloak - can't think of many more kits that can do that

0 Fitness, max everythung else , use CM 3/4 . Use any decent weapon , my favs : Venom / Talon / EXECUTIONER / Csmg /  Harrier/ Indra.

And then u have two abilities that can distract everything except bosses (however u can stil CC Banshees).  Go for shock->explosive drone/decoy and combine it with Incendiary ammo.

 

This kit is a Boss. U can solo Plat Geth while your Drellnoob teammates gonna get owned by a single Prime

Volus Merc makes Geth look incredibly stupid....I like the geth shotgun w disruptor rounds against them....

 

Pop your decoy w shock evo / explode evo....as they group around it..pop your combat drone w chain shock / explode evo..blast away until both pets explode..It is hilarious.

My build. Totally gold worthy. I only put 4 points into shield boost to get the range for doing objectives.
Can be played well with incendiary, disruptor, cryo or even explosive rounds.

71 wave is largely enough to decide it sucks.

I might have done more myself and might play it from time to time troll geth too

Saber Volus is best Volus.

 

My Volus Loadouts: Adept/Typhoon, Sentinel/Saber, Engineer/Tempest/PowerMag, Vanguard/Omniblade/BatGauntlet.

 

And they are ALL a LOT of fun. I've played all of them on Gold, too. I've even taken the Sentinel to Platinum.

If you don't have the quad (Volus are clearly baby Krogan, my friend proved this to me), then do it on bronze/silver. Seriously though, Volus are badarse, and if you can't keep it together to handle even Gold with it, then you seriously need to L2P.

 

Decoy (supposedly) humiliates Geth (I have seen it work for others, but apparently my Decoys are broken).

Combat Drone creates stagger mook fest.

Shield Boost and Love Bubble will save you.

TWO cloaks, dump aggro on other players (And probably your pets).

 

All you have to do is point your gun at the staggered enemies and shoot.

Lets compare it to TGI: Tac-cloak - Check. Stim Packs - Check. Overload stagger - Check. Passives - Not check, player "skill" required.

 

What more do you want from a character? Clearly a L2P problem.
