It's probably better to leave people in their bubble of bliss and let higher difficulties pop it instead of my words. :D

I got this from your N7 HQ:

  • Volus Mercenary Waves Completed
  • Complete 200 Waves as a Volus Mercenary
    Current Progress: 71/200
    Challenge Points: 20
    Times Completed: 0

Heh, Deerber's played 71 more waves with the bowling ball merc than I have.

Typhoon

I've been using this on him lately, like a mobile rotund drone-spawning turret that cloaks and heals itself.

***

Edit* Also, FYI, I play him on plat all the time and do great. Definitely platworthy.

Yeah - you can literally stand on a staircase and shoot Banshees in the face, just tap shield boost when they throw the Warp at you and you're basically invincible.

Mandatory BSN l2p comment incoming :P

The Volus Merc is one of my favorite kits, now he's very dependent on a good gun to be effective on platinum, but what's so great about him is his ability to stay undetected and avoid enemy fire through his powers, basically he have the ability to shoot a lot at the enemy while taking very little fire back.

HE is the gun.

With gimmicks attached so he don't die so hard.

Read more. That's not my N7HQ, or if it is, something's wrong with my challenges, since I've never even deployed it

Great minds, and all that ;)

Volus Merc with Falcon versus Geth Gold is one of the most fun experiences you can have in this game.  As Randy Quaid once said, "Payback's a b!tch, ain't it?!"

That said, it can wear thin after a couple of hours, so a Saber will speed things up.

It's actually not that long at all. Just sit in RHA and reegar the ****** out of everything that gathers around the decoy.

If we talk only about offensive abilities then Deerber is right but I like the idea of a character with only defensive and pets powers. Killing enemies fast is fun but trolling them can be amusing too.

On topic : this character is a good opportunity to practice with your new PPR OP. The volus merc needs a strong gun and his pets will provide you enough distraction to deal with the ramp-up.

I'll give the ppr a shot on him.  I used it on my a destroyer (went with this due to a video posted in my ppr thread)I unlocked the other day, got to say felt like cheat mode on silver when grouped.  I still failed to solo silver, wave 10 activate the devices murderlated me, damn Cerberus. When you are the sole target its harder to ramp it up.

For the merc I was in  a silver match when trying to see how he worked with a group, I came in 2nd and given the number of cooldowns wasted on shielding others in the background I'm fairly happy with that.  Might not be an offensive power house but he suits my style to some degree with the staggers and crowd control through additional targets.

I wouldn't bother with a PPR 1, I have a PPR2 and still wont touch it. I'm not saying it will suck at X, just that it does suck at I.

Without seeing your manifest, I can't give a good suggestion, however, I used CAR on him before I got the Saber. It's not the hardest hitting gun, but it is effective at range, and accurate enough to pop headshots on the staggered mooks.

Still meaning to try Black Widow on him, would probably work just fine.

Possibly the worst kit in the entire game, but... Alright :pinched:

I prefer light on him too. As in, no heavier then Harrier X weight. I even go weapon weight in passives too, since his passives as weak anyway.

And he's still really good on Gold as their's still plenty of mooks for the two pets to tie up and mook headshot dps to help with dps.

Use heavy melee to always be dumping agro as often as you can among tossing your pets out, and you end up with a very relaxing character kit to play as.

I try not to use Shield Boost that much when playing him so that I can focus on the constant pet re-deploying more often. Why using the heavy melee is much better, and it doesn't eat your powers cooldown.

He's my favourite with Harrier X & Lancer X, but you don't have them, so I guess Hurricane whatever is your best bet...

There's always the arc pistol.  Light, powerful.  It works on pretty much everything.

Others have mentioned the PPR and I'll add my voice to theirs, but not until it's level V+ or you'll be overheating frequently.

Venom works well too, until the PUGs bleed out and you're left soloing two atlases.  It still works, of course, but it will take a while.

The Arc Pistol is awesome on everything.... but I hate it on Volus.  The camera angle just screws with my aiming.  I hate it on the Jugg too, for the same reason.  On a normal-height character, you can just position the reticle at head level and sweep or strafe left-right to keep nailing headshots.  You don't need to do much vertical adjustment, regardless of range.  With a Volus or Jugg, you have to keep changing your vertical adjustment pretty significantly at different ranges.

I know, L2P.

I need to learn how to use charged guns. I miss constantly with the arc pistol and I'm talking center mass shots. If don't charge it and blaze away all of a sudden i pepper the target with head shots for non existent damage.

No, that's actually a very important difference with every gun that relies heavily on headshots. No L2P for you :P

Good. That would be a silly thing to say.
