Rings stack so if you got a decent crit chance why buff 1 ability when you can buff everything?

is your cunning (critical chance) and willpower (attack) high?

do you have BiS weapons which have...

- high crit damage per se (Hakkon) or

- heal on kill

- or otherwise upgraded?

If the answers to these questions are yes - then take ability rings

If your crit chance isn't all that high, take the ability damage rings, especially if your crit damage rings are less than Superb.

In that case, use a Dragon Rage ring and a crit damage ring.

You could have mentioned this was for the Reaver. You spend like 80% of the match using Dragon Rage. Take the Dragon Rage rings.

Everyone else who uses a variety of skills and basic attacks: crit damage up.

Uh, isn't that at least a thousand hours or quite a bit more?

I don't think I would feel like a "noob" if I did 1000 hours of underwater welding or a thousand hours of neurosurgery. (Any volunteers?)

You know I've been looking this over and it doesn't make any sense.

Effect of critical damage ring.

[100% + (40% base crit + 100% Hakkon crit + 20% Ring crit) ] X your Crit Chance (0.58)

+

100% X 0.42

result is 192.8% damage overal

Without the ring it is 181.2%

When compared the damage increase from the ring is 6.4% (11.6% in base weapon dmg)

Now lets compare that to a superb attack ring.

Damage from crits (240%) X 1.1 X 0.58

+

Damage from non crits 100% X 1.1 X 0.42

result: 199.32% damage

10% damage increase. (18.1% in base weapon dmg)

If you have a Hakkon equipped, critical damage rings don't make any sense.

If you think I did something wrong here, by all means point it out.

Attack rings also apply to  non-critting dot.

You have assessed the relative value added of a crit damage ring when set against the extra crit damage of the Hakkon weapons, but have you also assessed the relative value added of a superb attack ring?

I can't tell from your calculations, but are you assuming 0 outside attack % (which only someone starting off would have)?

Imma take a whirl.

Dmg= (1+A)(1-CC)+(1+A)(1+CD)(CC)=(1+A)(1+CCxCD)

Rate of damage increase per increase in attack is

dDmg/dA= 1+CCxCD

Rate of damage increase per increase in critical chance is

dDmg/dCC= CD (1+A)

Rate of damage increase per increase in critical damage is

dDmg/dCD= CC (1+A)

So to figure out what will help you the most plug in your numbers and multiply the rate by what you will increase by.

For example CD = 1 (hakkon)+.4 (base)= 1.4

CC= .58

A=1

Adding an attack ring for 10%:  dDmg/dA= 1+(.58)(1.4)= 1.812

damage increase = 10 X 1.82= 18.12%

Adding crit dmg ring for 20%: dDmg/dCD= .58(1+0)= .58

damage increase= .58x20= 11.6%

Adding critical chance ring for 10%: dDmg/dCC= 1.4(1+0)= 1.4

damage increase= 14%

In this situation your best ring of choice is Superb attack ring followed by S Critical Chance followed by S Critical Damage

Ill add that if your critical chance rate is 100%, ring of attack and ring of CDmg are identical...  except in the event of dmg which does not crit such as dots, making ring of attack better

<snip>

I did some copy paste with your numbers Yallegro (except critical chance)

Factoring in the +attack% from willpower 106/2= +53% Attack and cunning 126/2=0.63% critical chance and a Hakkon Weapon with no modifications.

With no modifiers

Damage from crits (240%) X Attack(1) X Chance(0.63) =151%

Damage from non crits (100%) X Attack(1) X chance(0.37)= 37%

Total damage: 151%+37%= 188%

Superb ring of Critical Damage

Effect of critical damage ring (+20% critical damage) w/norway78’s willpower (+53% Attack)

Damage from crits (260%) X (1.53) X (0.63) =251%

Damage from non crits (100%) X (1.53) X (0.37)= 57%

Total damage: 251%+57%= 308%

Effect of critical damage ring (+20% critical damage) with no willpower bonus

Damage from crits (260%) X 1 X 0.63 =164%

Damage from non crits (100%) X 1 X 0.37= 37%

Total damage: 164%+37%= 201%

Superb ring of attack

Effect of superb attack damage ring (+10 attack) w/norway78’s willpower (+53% Attack)

Damage from crits (240%) X (1.1+0.53) X 0.63 = 246%

Damage from non crits (100%) X (1.1+0.53) X 0.37= 60%

Total damage: 246%+60%= 306%

Effect of superb attack damage ring (+10 attack) with no willpower bonus

Damage from crits (240%) X (1.1) X 0.63 = 166%

Damage from non crits (100%) X (1.1) X 0.37= 41%

Total damage: 166%+41%= 207%

What do we see?

  • Norway got a nice amount of willpower and the critical damage ring will therefore be best for him. With no attack power the + superb attack damage ring is best.
  • The more attack power, the better is the superb critical damage ring compared to the superb attack.
  • Guy ‘only’ got 63% critical chance (could be 100% with skills) so the more critical chance the better will the superb critical damage ring obviously becomes.
  • A casual player with a Hakkon weapon, low critical chance and low attack power should be using a superb attack ring.

Well your assumption is attack rings simply get added to the willpower attack increase rather than act as a standalone multiplier.

I'm going to go upstairs and see what kind of damage increases I actually get.

Ahh if Willpower adds with attack % then...

For example CD = 1 (hakkon)+.4 (base)= 1.4

CC= .58

A=WP/200

Assume WP=106

A=.53

Adding an attack ring for 10%:  dDmg/dA= 1+(.58)(1.4)= 1.812

damage increase = 10 X 1.82= 18.12%

Adding crit dmg ring for 20%: dDmg/dCD= .58(1+.53)= .725

damage increase= .8874x20= 17.748%

Adding critical chance ring for 10%: dDmg/dCC= 1.4(1+.53)= 1.75

damage increase= 21.42%

In this situation your best ring of choice is Superb CC ring followed by S Attack followed by S Critical Damage
