It's an RP thing. The ship is in a particular place at all times. Shepard would know what that place is, so I should too.

Honestly, I think you're creating a problem that in reality does exist, The galaxy merely allows Shepard to pick a destination for the Ship to go and the Normandy does not go anywhere unless  you specific choose to land on a certain world.

isn't that because of lore reason? The Normandy SR2 is way bigger (and heavier) than its predecessor, so much that you have to use a shuttle every time you need to land?

I'm not quite following this. I said I wanted to know the position of the ship, and that I want the position of the ship to be worth knowing. Are you saying I should just not want those things?

Though I suppose that the ship's indeterminate position in ME1 is a symptom rather than a cause.

As long as I'm talking about hypotheticals, I thought that the galaxy map was an incoherent mess in all three games. It's both a library computer and a navigation/scanning interface, but you can only look at the known data for a planet when the Normandy is orbiting it. (Or maybe just when you're in the system in ME1, depending on what you think is going on with the map.) We should be able to access that data without moving the ship,

Seeing this I wish that were so, visually improving some parts.

You'd need a shuttle for high gravity worlds, but not for planets with Earth-like gravity. The SR2 lands on Illium and Earth for example.

The Phoenix armor looked better though.

Wow. So they originally planned that we could control companions during combat. Sob.

I'd love to be able to search through a database without moving the ship.

I think a combination of both would easily work with a toggable zoom option. Can't be hard to do and yes I did prefer the original planetary view.

That was the first time I've seen that video, so I was surprised to see that as well. I'd never heard that was planned at one point.

terrible voice actress. the ME1 version of "screw that, go back and get Alenko" is one of the biggest atrocities in the history of voice acting.

Or Bioware can compromise and just allow the player to switch perspectives on how they want to view the planet or just allow the player to zoom in and out.

That would probably be too much work. I would just be happy if they went back to some of the navigational features of ME1's Galaxy Map (cursor, planetary view, etc.).

Well, if the teaser is any indication (and we really can't be sure that it is), than navigation might work quite differently in ME:A, when compared to the trilogy.

I'd be happy if our protagonist no longer has to push a little toy ship over the galaxy map but can actually just order the pilot to fly there like in ME1.

But yea, the ball planets were bad. he main reason they were bad was because the the surface textures were crappy and made them look like plastic balls instead of planets. I don't really need the orbital view in the galaxy map but what would be super cool would be if we could actually see planets from orbit when leaving the galaxy map and looking out the window.

So, "ghetto" is just an all purpose word for "bad" these days, huh?

I was kind of hoping for a virtual 3D galaxy map in which you switch to first person representing the position of the ship and the various solar systems are scaled relative and proportionally to one another.  Reach out and touch whichever system you wish to explore further and/or travel to.

I prefer ME1's style. Quick and to the point, no stupid minigames where you spend credits on fuel. Just select a destination and keep it moving.

Although I really love the original ME's planets view, considering we're going to exploring planets (and vast sections of each), we'll probably have the full planet view again. Hopefully with upgraded tech/graphics they'll be able to make the beautiful and realistic looking.

Very true. They just lost the mystique altogether.
