I kind of rushed through it just to finish so I could get the nug. Would it still apply, or do I need to keep the save?
If I delete my original finished game save, will I still have access to the Golden Nug?

You need to keep the save long enough to synchronize your account.

Yep, after you start a new playthrough go to the golden nug(by horse master dennet in haven) and sync. Your stuff will transfer and then you can delete your other save but only after you sync your new character.
